Chhattisgarh CM Trophy GM Masters R8: Can anyone stop the Pantsulaia juggernaut?

IM Nubairshah Shaikh got himself a very good opportunity to halt GM Levan Pantsulaia's (GEO) fantastic run. However, he could not make the most out of it. With this win, the Georgian extended his lead by 1.5 points. Seven players are at 6/8 each. GM Mitrabha Guha, IM Ajay Karthikeyan, Utsab Chatterjee, IM and Sammed Jaykumar Shete are the four Indians among them. Utsab continues his impressive run. He beat his second consecutive GM of the event, Deepan Chakkravarthy. Srihari L and CM Mayank Chakraborty also scored two big wins over IM Koustav Chatterjee and IM Ratnakaran K respectively. Shubhi Gupta has had a fantastic year so far. She won the National Under-12 Girls and National Amateur U-2000 Women Championship, three Silver medals at the Western Asia Under-12 Girls. Last month, the 11-year-old finished third at an Open Rating tournament. So her leading at World Under-12 Girls does not come as a surprise. A win in the last round will earn her a Gold. Charvi A can also win a Gold in the Under-8 Girls. She is currently at 8.5/10, a half point behind the leader. Ethan Vaz 8/10 and Safin Safarullakhan 8/10 are the remaining two Indians in the medal fray in Under-12 and Under-8 Open categories respectively. Astana GP Round 8: Vaishali moves up, Lagno joins Goryachkina in the lead

IM Vaishali R drew with Kazakhstan no.1 woman, GM Zhansaya Abdumalik in the eighth round of FIDE Astana GP 2022. She had some chances in the final moments of the endgame, however, she decided to draw. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina prevailed in the battle among the tournament leaders, against WGM Zhu Jiner (CHN). GM Kateryna Lagno defeated IM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER) to join the lead 6/8. IM Polina Shuvalova, WGM Dinara Wagner (GER) and GM Tan Zhongyi (CHN) are the remaining three victors of the round. Magnus Carlsen dominates Julius Baer Generation Cup

Magnus Carlsen took the least number of games to win the Finals of any Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event. He beat Arjun Erigaisi convincingly in two consecutive games which ended the second set immediately., There were no mathematical possibility left for Arjun to win the set any longer. The world champion was clearly not in a mood to dillydally. This was certainly a statement victory for him. Arjun Erigaisi should not feel sad about his loss as the world no.1 did not take him casually and gave him no chance. Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) maintained his sole lead 6.5/7 at Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Trophy GM Masters 2022. He made a quick draw with Mongolia no.3 Tsegmed Batchuluun. Six players are in the chase at 5.5/7 each. They are - IM Tahbaz Arash (IRI), GM Batchuluun, IM Himal Gusain, IM Ajay Karthikeyan, IM Nubairshah Shaikh and IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete. Sammed scored an impressive win against GM Venkatesh M R. Utsab Chatterjee also scored a big win over GM Luka Paichadze (GEO). WGM Divya Deshmukh defeated IM D K Sharma. IM Vaishali R drew with one of the tournament leaders, WGM Zhu Jiner (CHN) in the eighth round of FIDE Astana GP 2022. It was a quiet draw. She now moves to 3.5/7. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina also drew her game with IM Elisabeth Paehtz (GER). Jiner and Goryachkina are joined by GM Kateryna Lagno in the lead 5/7. Kateryna defeated WGM Dinara Wagner (GER). Gukesh and Harikrishna clinch Spanish Honor League for C A Solvay

India no.2 D Gukesh and no.4 Pentala Harikrishna played a key role in C A Solvay winning Spanish Team Championship Honor Division along with GM Oleg Korneev, GM Anna Muzychuk and GM Miguel Santos Ruiz among others. The team scored 11/14 to finish first, two points ahead of the field. It was an eight-team round-robin event. Their sole loss of the tournament was against Andreu Paterna by a minimum margin. Nihal Sarin was part of the team. Solvay's sole draw was with the team - DuoBeniajan Costa Calida. S L Narayanan also was instrumental in his team Myinvestor Casbalanca winning the First Division and qualifying to the Honor Division for next edition. Generation Cup Final 1: Carlsen wins the first set

Magnus Carlsen took the minimum number of games to win the first set of the Finals. He won the first two games and drew the third one to win the match 2.5-0.5. He was winning the third one too, however he made a draw as it was enough for him to win the set. It would have taken a computer-like precision for Arjun to get back in the first game, which was certainly not easy. In the second game, the teenager accepted an exchange sacrifice incorrectly. Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) completed his double hat-trick at Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Trophy GM Masters 2022. The top seed of the event defeated Mitrabha Guha to extend his lead by a full point 6/6. Mongolia no.3, Tsegmed Batchuluun is the only player at 5/6. He defeated Boris Savchenko. 17 players are at 4.5/6 each. IM Rajesh Vav scored a big win over Polish legend GM Michal Krasenkow. IM Vaishali R scored her first win of FIDE Astana GP against IM Elisabeth Paehtz in Round 6. The number one woman of Germany for almost two decades went wrong in the balanced rook endgame. She allowed the invasion of rook which proved to be costly. Speaking of firsts, Kazakhstan no.1 woman, GM Zhansaya Abdumalik also registered her first victory of the event. She defeated IM Polina Shuvalova. GM Kateryna Lagno and IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL) are the other two victors of the round against GM Tan Zhongyi (CHN) and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ). Arjun Erigaisi eliminated former World Blitz champion Liem Quang Le to advance to the Finals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Julius Baer Generation Cup. For the second consecutive match, Arjun won the Blitz tie-breaks. Although, he could have finished the match in the third game only which he was completely winning. He missed it and drew the game, lost the next one which enforced tie-breaks to be played. Magnus Carlsen on the other hand, won third and fourth game after drawing the first two games against Germany no.1 Vincent Keymer. GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) registered his fifth consecutive win to maitain his sole lead at Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Trophy GM Masters 2022. The Georgian defeated the legendary Pole GM Michal Krasenkow. GM Mitrabha Guha and GM Boris Savchenko ended their respective opponents' unbeaten run to trail by a half point at 4.5/5 each. WIM Sakshi Chitlange found herself in a commanding position against GM Luka Paichadze (GEO). However, she could not make the most out of her opportunity. Arjun Erigaisi defeated Christopher Yoo in the tie-breaks to advance to the Semifinals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Julius Baer Generation Cup. Both of them traded wins in the Rapid games. Arjun won the first Blitz tie-break and drew the next to setup a clash with former World Blitz champion, Liem Quang Le. The world champion Magnus Carlsen recovered well after starting the day with a loss against Levon Aronian. He won the next three games to win the match and advance to the next stage.
