13-year-old Swayham P Das scored a big win over GM Laxman R R in 1st Bikaner GM Open 2022. Experience player, Pritam Singh also scored an upset victory over GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE) in just 22 moves. Hriday Panchal had a good opportunity to hold GM Deepan Chakkravarthy to a draw. 12-year-old Nirnay Garg held veteran IM Anup Deshmukh to a draw. The tournament witnesses the participation of 75 players including 10 GMs, 7 IMs and 4 WIMs from 13 countries across the world including India in the Category A. After 28 weeks of successfully and consistently conducting the ChessBase India Chess Club at the Phoenix Marketcity in Mumbai, we are launching something very exciting for chess players - Prize money tournaments! And this will happen without any entry fee! Every 4th Saturday of the month will be the ChessBase India Chess Club tournament and only players who have attended the chess club in three weeks prior to it will be able to attend it! In this article we show you why the chess club is such a wonderful place for every chess lover of Mumbai to be at and how we came up with the idea of tournaments!

N L Pandiyar Memorial Rating Open is back after four years

1st Bikaner GM Open is starting today. Rajasthan is going to host another strong rating open tournament in a week from 8th October 2022. The seventh edition of N L Pandiyar Memorial Rating Open will take place at Orbit Resort, Udaipur. This is one of the longest running Open Rating tournaments in the state. The first edition took place back in 2009. This edition offers a prize fund of ₹1501000. Total number of prizes are 173. There are three prizes worth ₹1 lac and more. Apart from that, there are five prizes worth over ₹50000. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 4 R1-4: Aditya Mittal emerges sole leader

IM Aditya Mittal has emerged sole leader after the first day of MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 4. The teenager scored three wins and a draw to stay a full point ahead of the field 10/12. Previous leg winner, GM S L Narayanan, GM Vaibhav Suri and GM Pranav Anand are close behind at 9/12 each. Apart from Aditya, GM Bharath Subramaniyam and GM Karthikeyan Murali have also remained undefeated on the first day. This is the final leg of MPL Indian Chess Tour. Pranav Anand - The Golden Grandmaster

Pranav Anand became India's 76th Grandmaster on 15th September. On the following day, he became World Youth Under-16 Open champion. A feat very few players in the world can claim, if there are any. The 15-year-old boy became Karnataka's fourth Grandmaster. He earned his maiden GM-norm at 8th Sunway Sitges Open in 2021. The teenager scored his second and third GM-norm at Vezerkepzo GM March 2022 and 55th Biel Master Tournament in July. Both of those norms were earned in just eight games. Kateryna Lagno wins FIDE Astana GP, Vaishali impresses

GM Kateryna Lagno drew her final round game against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk to win FIDE Astana GP. The former World Rapid and three-time World Blitz Women's champion scored 8/11. IM Vaishali R had great chances to beat GM Aleksandra Goryachkina. Unfortunately, she could not seize her opportunity. The former World Women's Championship Challenger, Goryachkina scored 7.5/11 to finish second. WGM Zhu Jiner scored (CHN) made 6.5/11 to finish third. Vaishali had an impressive debut. Arun R U clinches Chhattisgarh CM Trophy Challengers Below 2000

Arun R U and Shrayan Majumder, both scored an unbeaten 8/9. They were placed first and second according to tie-breaks. Three players - Bishal Basak, Vishrut Parekh and Arnav Kherdekar scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, Bishal Basak was adjudged third. He remained undefeated too. The total prize fund for the Challengers section was ₹1200000. Top three prizes were ₹100000 and trophy, ₹80000 and ₹70000 each respectively. A total of 343 players participated from various states across India along with Bangladesh, Nepal and USA. Levan Pantsulaia dominates Chhattisgarh CM Trophy GM Masters 2022

GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) deservedly won Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Trophy GM Masters Tournament 2022. He drew his final round game against IM Ajay Karthikeyan to finish a full point ahead of the field 8.5/10. Three players followed him at 8.5/10. They are - GM Boris Savchenko, GM Michal Krasenkow (POL) and GM Shyam Sundar M. They were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Apart from Shyam, IM Ajay Karthikeyan, IM Nubairshah Shaikh and GM Mitrabha Guha are the only three Indians to finish in top ten at seventh, eighth and ninth place respectively scoring 7/10 each. GM Kateryna Lagno made a quick 13-move draw with GM Zhansaya Abdumalik (KAZ) to maintain her lead 7.5/10 at FIDE Astana GP. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina also drew her game with GM Alexandra Kosteniuk, to maintain her chase 7/10. IM Vaishali drew with IM Polina Shuvalova by forcing a perpetual check. She has scored 4.5/10 and had a good tournament so far. In the final round, Vaishali will be up against Goryachkina who would certainly go for maximum in her effort for the tournament triumph. Charvi Anilkumar and Shubhi Gupta clinch Gold at World Cadets 2022, Bronze for Safin Safarullakhan

Charvi Anilkumar and Shubhi Gupta are the World Champions in Under-8 Girls and Under-12 Girls category respectively. They both have won a Gold medal each for India. Charvi scored 9.5/11 and Shubhi made 8.5/11, both of them edged past other competitors on tie-breaks to etch their name in history. Safin Safarullakhan is the only other Indian to claim a medal. He won the Bronze in Under-8 Open, scoring sole 9/11. India won two more Gold in the same month after Pranav Anand and Ilamparthi won a Gold each in World Youth Under-16 and Under-14 Open respectively, a little over a week ago. Thus, India now has the highest number of Gold medals between the age group of Under-8 and Under-18.

Chhattisgarh CM Trophy GM Masters R9: Utsab Chatterjee becomes the new IM of India

GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) made another quick draw to maintain his sole lead 8/9 at Chhattisgarh CM Trophy Masters. He just needs a draw in the final round to win the tournament. GM Tsegmed Batchuluun (MGL) is the only one who is at a full point behind 7/9. Nine players are at 6.5/9 each. Utsab Chatterjee became the latest International Master of India after he drew his game with GM Mitrabha Guha. FM Aaryan Varshney scored his final IM-norm by scoring a win against GM Saptarshi Roy. After scoring his maiden IM-norm, Srihari L continues his great run by ending IM Aronyak Ghosh's 55-game unbeaten streak. WIM Mahalakshmi M is currently the highest female scoring player after beating WGM Divya Deshmukh. Final Round 10 starts today at 10 a.m. IST.

Astana GP Round 9: Kateryna Lagno wins four in-a-row, emerges sole leader

GM Kateryna Lagno has won four games in a row to emerge sole leader at FIDE Astana GP 2022. She defeated WGM Zhu Jiner (CHN) in a dicey game where she could have probably lost at some point. IM Polina Shuvalova also averted disaster as her opponent GM Tan Zhongyi (CHN) missed an opportunity to trap her opponent's queen. A day after winning the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Julius Baer Generation Cup in a dominating fashion, Magnus Carlsen has tweeted a public statement. Not only the chess universe, but the entire world is talking about the Sinquefield Cup withdrawal, Carlsen's refusal to play against Niemann at the Generation Cup. Everyone knows that Carlsen loves to play chess, he does not say or take rash decisions. He has finally issued a public statement. There are still some things he cannot say without Niemann's explicit permission, as he mentioned in the statement. The chess universe is split, many have taken Carlsen's side, while some feel Niemann is innocent. What is your opinion in this matter?

Chhattisgarh CM Trophy GM Masters R8: Can anyone stop the Pantsulaia juggernaut?

IM Nubairshah Shaikh got himself a very good opportunity to halt GM Levan Pantsulaia's (GEO) fantastic run. However, he could not make the most out of it. With this win, the Georgian extended his lead by 1.5 points. Seven players are at 6/8 each. GM Mitrabha Guha, IM Ajay Karthikeyan, Utsab Chatterjee, IM and Sammed Jaykumar Shete are the four Indians among them. Utsab continues his impressive run. He beat his second consecutive GM of the event, Deepan Chakkravarthy. Srihari L and CM Mayank Chakraborty also scored two big wins over IM Koustav Chatterjee and IM Ratnakaran K respectively.
