1st Bikaner GM Open R6: Abhijeet Gupta endures an epic battle against Levan Pantsulaia

The game between the top two seeds of 1st Bikaner GM Open 2022 was an epic one. GM Levan Pantsulaia and GM Abhijeet Gupta were facing each other for the first time since 2015. The previous four encounters were tied at 2-2, where both sides had a win over the other. The sixth round game could have gone either player's way, yet it ended in a draw, nevertheless it was a long but an exciting encounter. Both of them left everything board and did not hold back one bit. Abhijeet maintains his sole lead 5.5/6. GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE) and IM Arash Tahbaz (IRI) are in the chase at 5/6 each. Novendra Priasmoro wins 17th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Open 2022, Deepan second and Karthik third

Indonesia's top GM Novendra Priasmoro scored 7.5/9 to successfully retain his Dato Arthur Tan Malaysian Open Chess Championship 2022 in the 17th edition. Despite starting the tournament with a loss, he scored an impressive 7.5 points in the remaining eight games, finished a half point ahead of the competition to become champion. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy scored sole 7/9 to finish second. GM Karthik Venkataraman and Malaysian prodigy Yu Tian Poh scored 7/9 each. Karthik was placed second due to better tie-breaks. European Club Cup 2022 R2: Gukesh does a Zlatan against Zoltan

D Gukesh played like Zlatan Ibrahimović does in a football match. In the second round, the 16-year-old just brutally destroyed his opponent, GM Zoltan Varga. SK Dunajska Streda lost to his team, CSU ASE Superbet 0.5-5.5. Vishy Anand was rested and the new Romania no.1, Richard Rapport played in his stead. Pentala Harikrishna, Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin drew their respective games. Vidit Gujrathi won a prolonged encounter which he should have much before.  The legend, Anand will return to the board once again in the third round as he will battle against GM Rauf Mamedov. GM Abhijeet Gupta extended his sole lead by a full point at 1st Bikaner GM Open 2022. He defeated his coleader, IM Tahbaz Arash (IRI) comfortably in the fifth round. Six players are trailing the leader at 4/5 each. Indrajeet Mahindrakar scored a big win over GM Valeriy Neverov (UKR). Former National Junior champion and IM-elect FM Aradhya Garg, FM Ram Aravind L N and Arhan Chethan Anand drew with GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, IM Anuj Shrivatri and IM Ratnakaran K respectively. World Youth U16 Olympiad 2022 R3: India suffers a loss against Kazakhstan by a minimum margin

India suffered a loss against Kazakhstan in the third round of World Youth Under-16 Olympiad 2022. IM Pranesh M scored the sole win for the team. GM Pranav V drew his game. Mrittika Mallick and Rohit S lost their respective games. India will face Uzbekistan-2 in the fourth round. FM Harshad S and Tanisha S Boramanikar will be replacing Mrittika and Rohit respectively in the fourth round. Top three boards are rated much higher than their Uzbek counterparts. Aditya Mittal wins MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 4

The fourth leg of MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 had an interesting finish. Three players - IM Aditya Mittal, GM Karthikeyan Murali and GM Bharath Subramaniyam, ended with the same score 26/45. Both Aditya and Karthikeyan lost their final round games, while Bharath drew. Aditya won the tournament based on tie-breaks. All three scored the exact same number of seven wins and five draws. Previous leg winner, GM S L Narayanan scored 25/45 to finish fourth. Aditya has now qualified to the next Regular event of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and also the Finals of MPL Indian Chess Tour which is slated to take place later this month. Photo: chess24

European Club Cup 2022 R1: Gukesh, Harikrishna, Vidit, Arjun and Nihal make a winning start

Vishy Anand played his first rated game since he became the FIDE Deputy President back in August. The maestro is playing for the top team CSU ASE Superbet in the European Chess Club Cup 2022. He drew his game against GM Johann Hjartarsson of Viking Chess Club. D Gukesh is also playing for the same team as Anand. Pentala Harikrishna and Vidit Gujrathi won their games for Novy Bor Chess Club which has won Silver for the past three editions. Harikrishna played in all three of them, while Vidit returns after three years. Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin also won their respective games for TAJFUN - SK Ljubljana who scored a 6-0 whitewash over Schachfreunde Berlin. Team India won against Mexico convincingly in the second round of World Youth Under-16 Olympiad 2022. GM Pranav Venkatesh, IM Pranesh M and Tanisha S Boramanikar won their respective games. FM Harshad S drew his first game at the event against Santiago Zacarias Rodriguez who did not make any mistakes. The top seed of the tournament Turkiye-Anatolia were held to a draw by Iran. India will face Kazakhstan in the third round. There are two changes - Mrittika Mallick and Rohit S will be replacing Tanisha and Harshad respectively. GM Abhijeet Gupta defeated IM Kushagra Mohan comfortably to maintain his lead at 1st Bikaner GM Open 2022. He is joined by IM Tahbaz Arash (IRI) who won against FM Ram Aravind L N in an interesting encounter. While, Kushagra got a worse position out of the Closed Sicilian opening, Ram Aravind faltered in the final moments of the endgame. IM Anuj Shrivatri saved a difficult position against GM Michal Krasenkow (POL). The teenager managed to salvage a draw eventually. World Youth U16 Olympiad 2022 R1: India whitewashes Panama 4-0

Team India defeated Panama convincingly in the first round of FIDE World Youth Under-16 Olympiad 2022. Unlike the regular Olympiad, the youth is a combined event where each team must have a girl in their four member playing team. Team India is comprises - GM Pranav Venkatesh, IM Pranesh M, FM Harshad S, Tanisha S Boramanikar, Rohit S and Mrittika Mallick. Harshad and Mrittika were rested in the first round. The remaining four won their games comfortably. GM FST Tejas Bakre is the Captain of the team. One of the latest International Masters of India, Kushagra Mohan defeated the legendary Polish GM Michal Krasenkow in the third round. FM Ram Aravind L N also scored a fantastic win over GM Luka Paichadze (GEO). IM Anuj Shrivatri had a very good opportunity to beat the top seed of 1st Bikaner GM Open 2022, GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO). Unfortuantely, he missed his opportunity and could only manage a draw. 13-year-old Arhan Chethan Anand drew with GM Luka in round 2 and defeated IM Nitin S in the third round. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 4 R9-12: Bharath Subramaniyam is the new sole leader

India's 73rd GM Bharath Subramaniyam H is the new sole leader, heading into the final day of MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 4. He started the day by defeating the previous day leader, GM Pranav Anand. Then he beat GM Abhimanyu Puranik, drew with IM Aditya Mittal and finished the day with a win over GM Sethuraman S P. The 14-year-old got into the lead 22/36 by doing a very pretty checkmate at the center of the board. He is closely followed by GM Pranav 21/36, IM Aditya and GM Karthikeyan Murali at 20/36 each. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 4 R5-8: Pranav Anand gains sole lead

India's 76th GM and World Youth Under-16 Gold medalist, Pranav Anand has emerged sole leader 16/24. Despite starting the day with a loss against the previous day leader, IM Aditya Mittal, Pranav turned things around by winning against Sethuraman and Vaibhav Suri. He was completely lost in both of those games, yet he managed to persevere. His sole draw was against GM Mitrabha Guha, in which the newly crowned GM was completely winning. Aditya scored a win, two draws and lost one game to maintain his chase 15/24. Three players are sharing the third place.
