Aryan Joshi and Darpan Inani win Individual Bronze at IBCA Olympiad 2021

Aryan Joshi and Darpan Inani have secured individual Bronze medal on Board no.1 and Board no.3 respectively at 16th IBCA Chess Olympiad for the Blind and Visually Impaired 2021. Darpan scored the highest for Team India as he made 6.5/9. Aryan was the second-highest scorer for the team 4.5/9. K Marimuthu and Milind Samant scored 2.5/8 and 2.5/4 each respectively. Soundarya Pradhan had a tough event as he scored only 1.5/6. India secured eight place. Russia won the Gold by winning all their matches 18.0/18, Poland and Serbia scored 14.0/18 each. Krishnan Sasikiran scored a fantastic victory over Vladimir Fedoseev (RUS) which can be called a positional Masterclass in French Defense in the fifth round of FIDE chess.com Grand Swiss 2021. It was a good day for the Indian players as Praggnanandhaa, Raunak Sadhwani, Arjun Erigaisi, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, B Adhiban and Divya Deshmukh scored a victory each. Nihal drew with Manuel Petrosyan. Harikrishna showed his true grit as he survived by the skin of his teeth in a completely lost endgame against Darius Swiercz (USA). Grand Swiss R4: Harikrishna and Vaishali score a win

Harikrishna scored his second consecutive win of the event to move to 2.5/4 at the conclusion of the fourth round of FIDE chess.com Grand Swiss 2021. Nihal, Gukesh and Sasikiran drew their respective games against three strong Russians, Ponkratov, Fedoseev and Artemiev. WGM Jiner held Harika to a draw. Padmini missed a completely winning opportunity against Kashlinskaya. Divya escaped a loss against Sophie. Vaishali scored a comfortable victory. How far would a chess player go for chess? All chess player and enthusiasts know the answer, to anywhere and everywhere. Arindam Mukherjee, an IM-norm holder and with a wealth of chess experience of over four decades, travelled 80 km in a day to witness an artistic creation of a chess-themed Durga Puja pandal on 15th October 2021, at Panchanantala in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Harika grinded an equal endgame against Stefanova until the latter made a grave mistake which cost her the game in the third round of FIDE chess.com Women's Grand Swiss 2021. She is now one of the leader among nine players at 2.5/3. Padmini and Vantika beat compatriots, Vaishali and Divya respectively to move to 2.0/3. Nihal Sarin scored an academic victory against Temur Kuybokarov (AUS). Peter Anand clinches Gold at FIDE World Amateur u-2000

20-year-old Peter Anand A scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win Gold in FIDE World Amateur Championship in Under-2000 category. This is his biggest achievement in his nascent chess career so far. He won €1000, a trophy and a Gold medal. He also qualified for the next FIDE World Amateur Championship as long as he doesn't touch 2300 or cross it. Furthermore, he will also get a free accommodation and full board by the organizing committee. Peter's previous best performance was a second place finish at Velammal Blitz Rating in February 2019 where he beat WGM Meenakshi, then FM Rathanvel, GM Laxman and drew with GM Aravindh Chithambaram.

Grand Swiss R2: Tenacious Nihal survives the Caruana challenge

Nihal Sarin managed to survive against the former world championship challenger, Fabiano Caruana in their first-ever Classical encounter in the second round of FIDE chess.com Grand Swiss 2021. The 17-year-old persevered where many would have crumbled under sheer pressure of playing against the world no.2. Arjun Erigaisi also showed the world that his win against Dubov four months ago at Goldmoney Asian Rapid was not a fluke, as he put up a very good fight in the Classical game to make a draw. 57-year-old Michal Krasenkow wins Sheikh Russel GM 2021

The legendary Polish GM Michal Krasenkow beat GM Vugar Rasulov (AZE) in the final round to win Sheikh Russel International GM 2021. He scored 7.0/9, finished a half point ahead of the competition at the age of 57 years. Six players finished at 6.5/9. GM Vitaliy Bernadskiy (UKR), GM Srinath Narayanan, IM Mitrabha Guha, GM Shyam Sundar M, IM Seyed Khalil Mousavi (IRI) and GM Vugar Rasulov were placed second to seventh respectively according to the tie-breaks. Grand Swiss R1: Arjun Erigaisi splits the point with Andrey Esipenko

Arjun Erigaisi faced the strongest opponent among the Indian players in the first round of FIDE chess.com Grand Swiss 2021. He managed to hold his own against Andrey Esipenko, who is known to have caused trouble for the world champion Magnus Carlsen twice in this year. Nihal Sarin, D Gukesh and Vaishali are the only three Indian players who scored a win each. The youngsters - Praggnanandhaa, Raunak, Vantika and Divya managed to hold their relatively stronger opponents Gabriel, Cheparinov, Munguntuul and Zawadzka to a draw each respectively. FIDE chess.com Grand Swiss 2021 starts today

15 Indian players will be seen in action at FIDE chess.com Grand Swiss and Women's Grand Swiss 2021, starting at Riga, Latvia today. Harikrishna, Adhiban and Harika are the players who qualified by average rating criteria between July 2020 and June 2021. Sasikiran, Sethuraman and Vaishali made it from the reserve players list. The remaining nine players are Wild Card entrants - Nihal, Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa, Raunak, Padmini, Vantika and Divya. 107 GMs and an IM from 36 countries with an average rating 2639 are taking part in the Open. The Women's event witnesses 15 GMs, 20 IMs and 9 WGMs from 23 countries across the world with an average rating of 2405 should give you an idea about the strength and importance of the event. Thus, Rasulov has emerged as the sole leader 6.5/8, heading into the final round. He must win the last round to ensure his triumph as a draw could mean his fate will be decided by other players' results. Six players are at a half point behind him.
