Vishy Anand would become the Deputy President if Dvorkovich wins the FIDE Presidential Elections 2022

Vishy Anand has played many different roles in the world of chess. We all know that he is the five-time World Champion. But he has also been a major promoter of the sport in the country as well as the world. He now spends a lot of time as a trainer to some of the most talented youngsters at the Westbridge Anand Chess Academy. But one move that very few would have seen coming, was Anand becoming a part of the FIDE administration. Today, 12th of May 2022, Arkady Dvorkovich has announced his FIDE Presidential Team. If Dvorkovich is re-elected as the FIDE President in Chennai in August, then Vishy Anand would become the FIDE Deputy President.

Arkady Dvorkovich had become the FIDE President at the Batumi Olympiad 2018

Arkady Dvorkovich, the FIDE President from 2018-2022 has announced that he would be fighting for the FIDE Presidential elections once again. The FIDE elections will take place in India during the Olympiad. Announcing his team for the next term, this is what Dvorkovich had to say:

"Dear Colleagues and Chess Friends,

On the way to FIDE Presidential elections, I am happy to present my team:

Arkady Dvorkovich - President

Viswanathan Anand- Deputy President

Zhu Chen - Treasurer

Jøran Aulin-Jansson - Vice President

Mahir Mammedov - Vice President

Dvorkovich's team for 2022. Vishy Anand is a five-time World Chess Champion, Zhu Chen was the Women's World Champion in 1999,  Jøran Aulin-Jansson is an International Organizer and an FM from Norway as well as the Managing director at Jansson & Bjelke AS, Mahir Mammedov is the General Director of Socar Energy Georgia.

The official application and programme will be presented in few days time. I am confident that with support of the chess community and professional work of the management, we shall successfully continue to increase the quantity and improve the quality of professional chess events and social projects, attract sponsors and ensure sustainability of the budget, support federations and raise the public interest for our beautiful game.

A few months ago, when Dvorkovich had visited India it had become clear that Vishy Anand would be an important part of his team. If Dvorkovich wins the FIDE Presidential election in August 2022, then Vishy Anand would become the Deputy President.

In 2018, Georgios Makropoulos was Dvorkovich's opponent for the FIDE Presidential election battle. In 2022, we are still not sure who is going to be his main opponent. Perhaps, we will get to know about it in the coming days, leading up to the Olympiad.
