The tournament is going to being from the 26th of December 2021 (3 p.m. local time). Sriram Jha wins 1st Chhindwara All India Rapid Rating Open

Top seed of the tournament, GM Sriram Jha of LIC, scored an unbeaten 8.0/9 along with IM Himal Gusain at 1st Chhindwara All India Open Rapid Rating. Sriram won the tournament due to better tie-break score, Himal was placed second. Madhya Pradesh's very own, IM Anuj Shrivatri secured third place 7.5/9, edging past Harish Sharma on tie-breaks. The tournament had the total prize fund of ₹100000 with the first prize being ₹21000 cash and a trophy. It took place on 11th and 12th December at Parasia, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. Deep Sengupta triumphs 18th Vandoeuvre Open 2021

India's 22nd GM Deep Sengupta scored an unbeaten 7.0/9 to win 18th Vandoeuvre Open 2021. Four players - GM Deep Sengupta, GM Sergey Fedorchuk (UKR), IM Pierre Laurent-Paoli (FRA) and GM MarcAndria Maurizzi (ITA) finished with the same score. They were placed first to fourth according to tie-breaks. Deep drew against all of them. He won a beautiful trophy and €1500 (approx. ₹1.28 lacs) as his first prize. IM Arghyadip Das and IM Sayantan Das were the only two other Indians to finish in top 10. They scored 6.5/9, secured eighth and ninth place respectively. Raahul V S and Savitha Shri B win Gold at Asian Junior Open and Girls 2021

The reigning AICF National Junior Online 2021 champions, IM Raahul V S and WIM Savitha Shri B are now the Asian Junior Open and Girls 2021 champion. They performed identically as they took sole lead after the fourth round and remained unbeaten throughout the event. Raahul scored 7.5/9 and Savitha 7.0/9 to clinch their respective Gold medals. GM Mitrabha Guha 7.0/9 and IM Harshavardhan G B 6.5/9 had to settle for Silver and Bronze medals respectively. WIM Priyanka K 6.5/9 secured Silver medal due to better tie-breaks. Abdusattorov clinches 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021 in Playoffs, Abhimanyu Puranik third

Abhimanyu Puranik beat Ivan Cheparinov (BUL) in the Armageddon Playoffs to secure third position in 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) beat Dmitrij Kollars 1.5-0.5 in the Playoff Finals to clinch the first place. Abdusattorov earned €5000 and a beautiful trophy, Kollars got richer by €3000 and Abhimanyu received €1500 as their prize. Sethuraman, Nihal and Arjun Erigaisi are the remaining Indians who finished in top ten. Dhananjay S was the highest placed finisher among untitled players. He scored an impressive 6.5/10. Caruana bests Rapport in Armageddon to win 7th Gashimov Memorial 2021

Fabiano Caruana scored 5.5/7 on the final day of Blitz, while Richard Rapport managed to score only 3.5/7. Thus, the American caught up with the Hungary no.1 and Armageddon had to decide the winner of the event. Caruana once again beat Rapport in Armageddon for the second time in this event and this time the win meant the triumph of 7th Gashimov Memorial 2021. Caruana also became world no.4 in Blitz live ratings, Mamedyarov finished third overall and he is now world no.12. Vishy Anand losing 66 Elo rating points allowed Arjun Erigaisi to become India no.1 in Blitz live ratings. Lalit Rohit wins a double at Thailand Chess Festival 2021

India's 26th GM Lalit Rohit dominated Thailand Chess Festival 2021 as he won both Classical and Blitz event. Lalit scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 and finished a full point ahead of the competition to win the Classical Open event. He scored a massive 10.0/11 on the rest day to win the Blitz event without making a single draw. In Blitz also, he finished a full point ahead of the competition. He won a trophy and US $2500 in Open, US$ 500 in Blitz. His first event after recovering from Covid was a team event for SJBVS. He scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 in that. Can Abhimanyu Puranik win 8th Sunway Sitges Open?

Abhimanyu Puranik and Dmitrij Kollars (GER) were the only two victors among the leaders in Round 9 of 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021 Group A. They will now face each other in the final round. Abhimanyu needs to win the final round game to become a clear champion, as a draw will allow other players to catch up with him and then Playoffs will be enforced. Nihal Sarin, Sankalp Gupta, Pranav Anand and Pranesh M were the other victors among top boards. Pranav and Pranesh's impressive performance earned them their respective GM-norms. 7th Gashimov Memorial Blitz R1-7: Mamedyarov makes an impressive start

Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has once again beaten Richard Rapport. The tournament leader lost the following round against Navara. Mamedyarov scored 5.0/7, Rapport and Caruana scored 4.5/7, followed by Navara and Asadli 4.0/7 each. Rapport is currently just 1.5 points ahead of Mamedyarov at 20.5/28. The most exciting game of the day has to be between Rauf Mamedov and Rapport in Round 5. The former was completely winning till the latter made a comeback. Anand is struggling with his form as he made five draws and still in search for his first win in Blitz. The last seven rounds of Blitz will be played today, starting from 4:30 p.m. IST. 8th Sunway Sitges Open R8: Arjun Erigaisi, Sethuraman and Abhimanyu Puranik in the title fray

Top two boards ending in draws ensured more people can catch up with the leaders in Round 8 of 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021 Group A. Arjun Erigaisi, Sethuraman and Abhimanyu Puranik are the only three Indians among the eight-pack leaders 6.5/8. They are closely followed by a dozen players at 6.0/8. The Indian players among them are - Nihal Sarin, Harsha Bharathakoti, Sankalp Gupta and IM Pranav Anand. 7th Gashimov Memorial R6-7: Rapport and Karjakin top Rapid standings

Richard Rapport lost to Shakhriyar Mamedyarov 0-3 in Round 6. He beat David Navara 3-0 in Round 7 to finish at the top of the Rapid standings at 7th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2021. Sergey Karjakin beat Vugar Asadli and Rauf Mamedov 3-0 to tie with Rapport at the top of the points table 16.0/21. Caruana and Mamedyarov are close behind at 14.0/16 each. Vishy Anand had another tough day as he lost both of his matches against Caruana and Asadli. He was completely winning in three out of four games. Laxman R R wins 1st YSR All India Open 2021

Top seed of the tournament, GM Laxman R R of Integral Coach Factory, scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 along with IM Krishna Teja N and IM Himal Gusain at 1st YSR All India Open Rating. Laxman won the tournament due to better tie-break score, Krishna and Himal were placed second and third respectively. The tournament had the total prize fund of ₹301000 with the first prize being ₹30000 cash. It took place from 4th to 9th December at Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium, at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This is Laxman's second consecutive tournament triumph after winning a Rapid Rating event last month in Madhya Pradesh and first Classical triumph since September 2019 when he won All India Railway Championship.

8th Sunway Sitges Open R7: Abhimanyu Puranik joins the four-way lead

Tournament leaders Dmitrij Kollars (GER) and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) drew their game against each other, which allowed Ivan Cheparinov (BUL) and Abhimanyu Puranik to catch up with them 6.0/7 in Round 7 of 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021 Group A. Abdusattorov will face Abhimanyu and Cheparinov will be up against Kollars in Round 8. Arjun Erigaisi, Sethuraman and Harsha Bharathakoti maintain their chase 5.5/7 each. 7th Gashimov Memorial R4-5: Rapport takes sole lead and now World no.6 in Rapid

Richard Rapport beat both Vugar Asadli and Rauf Mamedov 3-0 in Round 4 and 5 respectively to take sole lead 13.0/15 at the conclusion of the third day in 7th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2021 Rapid. Vishy Anand lost the second game against Karjakin after the first game ended in a quick draw. Anand beat Mamedyarov in Armageddon after both Rapid games did not yield any result. Caruana-Karjakin Armageddon also ended in a draw, since the Russian had the Black pieces, he won the match. Karjakin is now at 10.0/15, a full point behind Caruana 11.0/15. 8th Sunway Sitges Open R6: Abdusattorov and Kollars are the new leaders

Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) ended Sethuraman's unbeaten run as he defeated the tournament leader in the sixth round of 8th Sunway Sitges Open 2021 Group A. Abdusattorov is joined by Dmitrij Kollars (GER) in the lead 5.5/6. They will face each other in the seventh round. Sethuraman and Abhimanyu Puranik are just a half point behind them at 5.0/6 each. Eight Indian players are at 4.5/6. They are - GM Nihal Sarin, GM Arjun Erigaisi, GM Harsha Bharathakoti, GM Neelotpal Das, IM Aditya Mittal, IM Pranesh M, WGM Mary Ann Gomes and untitled Sharan Rao who is having a phenomenal tournament so far.
