Adhiban made upper-cuts, flying kicks and used his Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique combos, because every correct move you make in the ChessBase tactic-training is accompanied by "punching sounds". Online Olympiad Day one: Flawless show by Team India

The excitement was at its peak as India took on three teams - Zimbabwe, Vietnam and Uzbekistan on day one of the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020. A lot of people had taken leave from work to follow the games live and the online viewership of live commentary reached 30,000 concurrent viewers at one point! That shows how popular chess is becoming in this lockdown. And team India lived up to the expectations as we won all three matches and are now leading the group with 6.0/6 along with China and Germany. In terms of game points, India is at the top with 15.5/18. IM Sagar Shah brings you a detailed report of all the happenings on day one.

Carlsen-Nakamura finals will be epic - anyone could have guessed that but one thing very few could guess correctly would be how epic would it be or if it would go down to Armageddon. Carlsen won the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour in a fantastic manner. The finals witnessed back and forth games and there were zero short draws. Both players knew that they would have to push their limits and drive things in a top gear, anything less will just not be enough. The entire chess universe was buzzing about this epic finals and the World champion surely had a successful tour in all stretch of the imagination - as a player, organizer and promoter of the game. MCT Finals: Carlsen wins the sixth set despite a back injury

Nakamura was just one set away from winning Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals. Carlsen made sure that it remained that way. Despite suffering a back injury while going for a swim in the ocean, Carlsen played some attacking chess and won the first game without any difficulty. In the second game, Carlsen did not want to settle for a draw and pushed too hard, resulting in Nakamura getting decisive advantage. The 'Speed King' was unable to seize the opportunity and had to settle for a draw. After making a quick draw in the third game, Carlsen won the fourth game to win the sixth set 3-1 and force seventh set to be the decider to determine who will win the finals. MCT Finals: Nakamura beats Carlsen in the Armageddon

The first four days of Nakamura-Carlsen finals in the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals has been so amazing that chess lovers all around the world are clamoring for more matches between the two. This set format like a Tennis match seems to be working out quite well for both players and spectators. Sure there are few uneventful draws, but the players are human too. They need to relax after a nail-biter finish. The fifth set witnessed four draws and then Carlsen won the fifth game. Thus Nakamura was in a must-win situation. He not only won that game but also won the Armageddon, allowing him to be one set closer to winning the entire finals. MCT Finals: Carlsen dominates Nakamura in the fourth set

One thing you can always be sure of when Carlsen and Nakamura are playing against each other is - there will be fireworks. The very first game of the fourth set was absolutely a thriller. Nakamura's incredible resourcefulness saved the game for him but then again the World champion had his share of few misses too. The following game was an uneventful draw which is quite obvious. The third game witnessed Carlsen walk away with the full point after Nakamura blundered in an already difficult position. Carlsen had advantage in the fourth game too, since draw was enough for him to win the set, he settled for a perpetual. Who do you think will win the fifth set? China, Germany, Iran, Vietnam and Georgia will give India a tough fight at the Online Olympiad

40 teams have been decided for the top division of the FIDE Online chess Olympiad 2020. India has been placed in pool A with nine other teams. The favourites in group A are without doubt China. However, India has other teams to worry about as well - the German team has a nice balance of youth and experience, the Iranian team led by Parham Maghsoodloo is as always unpredictable. Le Quang Liem led Vietnam is not to be underestimated, nor is the Georgian team, which is well known for its world class female players. Only if we finish in top three do we advance to the next stage. In this article we bring you all the possibilities as well as the schedule for the event. 

GoodEarth Online Blitz Open on 5th September with a total prize fund of ₹60000

GoodEarth will organize the next ChessBase Online Blitz Open on Saturday 5th September 2020 at 8 p.m. IST. The tournament has a total Prize fund of ₹60000. Entry is FREE for GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs. Entry fee is only ₹200 and for under-15 and senior citizen, the entry fee is ₹150. The entire prize fund is sponsored by GoodEarth. They are organizing this event in association with Chess Kerala and ChessBase India. Chess Kerala organized a Checkmate Covid Fundraiser in May and their events always have low entry fees to encourage maximum participation. First prize for the champion is ₹12000. MCT Finals: Nakamura beats Carlsen in the third set

There are not a lot of people who can beat Carlsen quite often. Nakamura beat Carlsen twice in the third set within the span of three games. If anyone has the World champion's number now, it would definitely be Nakamura. The Speed King had more reasons to celebrate as his twitch channel became the first chess channel to reach 500K followers. Although he started Day 3 of the finals with a loss, then he made a quick draw in just 17 moves and won the next game after the Norwegian misplayed in the endgame. Fourth game was a hard fought draw and in the fifth game the World no.1 made blunders in move no.11 and 12 which allowed Nakamura to score a miniature like win in just 22 moves. MCT Finals: Carlsen wins the second set

Whenever Carlsen is backed into a corner, it is expected that he will make a fierce comeback. Except Day 2 of the Finals in Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals started with a victory by Nakamura. He continued with his previous day's momentum. However surprisingly he made a 14-move draw with the white pieces in the next game. Carlsen beat Nakamura in the third game of the day and once again Nakamura repeated the same short draw. After a prolonged draw in the fifth game, the final blitz game witnessed Nakamura blunder terribly and lose the game and set. Thus Carlsen won the second set and equalized the finals score to 1-1. If you have to choose one person in the world who can beat Carlsen in online rapid and blitz then that would be the 'Speed King' Hikaru Nakamura. Day 1 in the finals of Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals went to Nakamura. He looked strong from the very first game and he managed to win the second game after making a draw in the first one. He continued his momentum in the third game too but the Norwegian somehow managed to save the game and set. In the fourth game, Nakamura needed just a draw to win the set and the game seemed to be a draw for the better part of the game.
