Nothing happens until the time is right, is it dependent on luck or is it predestined? Well a sportsperson does not merit those, instead they wait for the right time to strike. 30th of August 2020 is a day that would not leave the collective memory of Indian chess lovers for quite some time to come, for this is the day the country bagged its maiden chess olympiad gold. Thousands of chess fans - neophytes and experts alike - witnessed the historic journey, even becoming a part of it and sharing its trepidations. 29th of August 2020 is celebrated as the National Sports Day in India. On this day, the Indian team played out of their skins to beat Poland and reach the finals of the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020. It was not a straightforward victory for India as we lost the first match with a score of 4-2. However, in the second match we made a resounding comeback with 4.5-1.5 The match went into an Armageddon and it was the super-woman of Indian chess Koneru Humpy who came to the fore and delivered! India have not just qualified to the finals, they have also assured themselves of a silver medal. Now between the Indian team and the Gold medal lies the formidable Russia. Armenia withdraws as India moves into Semi-finals of Online Olympiad 2020; will face Poland

Team India advanced to the semi-finals of the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020 beating Armenia. But the way the match ended was quite unfortunate. India won the first match against Armenia with a score of 3.5-2.5. Pairings for the second match were made. It was at this point that Arrmenia made an appeal first to the arbiters, then to the appeals committee. Their appeal was turned down. At this point the Armenian team decided to withdraw from the tournament. India was given a win and we advance to the semi-finals. What exactly happened. Online Olympiad Day 3: India beats China, tops Pool A and is through to the Quarter-Finals

What a brilliant day it was for team India at the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020. We began trailing China with one point. Two Asian superpowers notched up one victory after another before they clashed against each other in the final round of the Group stage. A lot was at stake as the winner would get a direct berth in the Quarter finals and would save time and energy of playing in the pre quarter finals. The Chinese team with Ding Liren, Yu Yangyi, Hou Yifan and Ju Wenjun looked invincible, but the junior boards were the ones where their weakness lay. Praggnanandhaa and Divya rose up to the occasion to give India a resounding 4-2 victory over China and a direct berth in the Quarter-finals!

Online Olympiad Day 2: India loses two critical games due to power failure
