Rs.267,165 raised in two days for coach Durgesh; The fight continues

On 7th of September (2 days ago) we published an article about Durgesh, a well-known chess trainer from Bangalore, who suffered from brain haemorrhage and is in the hospital fighting for his life. Although his surgery is completed, the path to recovery is long and he will need quite a bit of financial resources to get through this phase of his life. Durgesh's good friend Sushrutha Reddy sponsored Rs.50,000 as the prize fund for the tournament that will be held on 19th of September 2020. In the last couple of days, the chess community has come together and we have had 147 donors and we have managed to raise Rs. 2,67,165 for Durgesh. The battle still continues and we hope for your support.

Feedback from the participants of the Chuchelov + Vidit training camp

From 11-year-old Ilamparthi to 44-year-old Carl Bicknell the online training session with world class coach Vladimir Chuchelov and Vidit Gujrathi had a huge variety of students. But one thing brought them all together - the hunger for knowledge and chess improvement. From 1st to the 10th of August a very successful training camp was organized by Vidit Chess Academy and ChessBase India with Chuchelov and India no.3 Vidit Gujrathi. The camp revolved around the brainchild of Chuchelov called the Strategic Balance and it was 50 hours long. In this article we bring to you the feedback of the students who took part and also inputs by the trainers.

Candidates 2020 to resume from the 1st of November 2020

The search for Magnus Carlsen's opponent had reached half way in the month of March 2020. FIDE Candidates 2020, which was stopped halfway due to the Corona virus scare, is now resuming from the 1st of November 2020 from round 8 onwards. All the results until round 7 will stay as they are. The tournament will resume in Yekaterinburg, which was the original venue of the tournament. The organizers have also arranged for an alternate venue in Tbilisi Georgia. Gopal explains Exchange Sacrifice

India's 16th and Kerala's first GM Gopal G N launched his website on last week of August 2020. The site has various content - Testimonial, Gallery, his achievements and more. He uploaded a couple of videos explaining Exchange Sacrifices. Gopal is an accomplished player. He became a GM in eight months after becoming an IM. Gopal has a huge list of accolades - Gold in National Junior 2004, National Sub-Junior Rapid 2001; Silver in Asian Team 2008 and 2012, National Premier 2010; Bronze in World Team 2010, Asian Games 2010, Asian Team Blitz 2012 and many more. Iniyan 'Invincible' at 48th World Open

India's 61st GM Iniyan P wins 48th World Open by scoring an unbeaten 7.5/9. He joins the long list of previous champions - Bent Larsen, Pal Benko, Gata Kamsky, Hikaru Nakamura, Magesh Panchanathan, Sandipan Chanda, Parimarjan Negi, Le Quang Liem and more. Iniyan played three games per day from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. IST between 7th and 9th August. He mentions that at one point, he felt like an owl for staying awake for the entire night. His efforts earned him a handsome reward as he won US$3000 + $100 bonus as a winner in the tie-break for the first place. Bangalore-based well-known chess coach Durgesh K collapsed from a severe brain haemorrhage last month and has been hospital-bound in critical condition since then. Durgesh's family is in desperate need of funds to meet the expenses of his hospitalization and recovery. His close friend Sushrutha Reddy has sponsored a fundraiser event (Prize fund of Rs.50,000, held on 19th of September) along with ChessBase India to make sure that Durgesh recovers and comes back home. It was not an internet disconnection

In the finals of the Online Olympiad 2020, team India faced Russia. After the first match ending in a 3-3 tie, the second match was balanced with a score of 1.5-1.5. The three games that were going on were Divya against Shuvalova, Nihal against Esipenko and Humpy against Goryachkina. Suddenly Nihal and Divya lost their games and India had lost its match to Russia 3.5-1.5. Subsequently Humpy, who had lost precious seconds in her game due to disconnection, also lost her game and we succumbed to a 4.5-1.5 defeat. What exactly happened here? Was it an internet disconnection or something else? We bring you the entire story.
