Saint Louis Rapid Day 3: Wesley So takes sole lead

The third day of Saint Louis Rapid belonged to Wesley So as he went on two score two wins after making a draw with Nepomniachtchi and take the sole lead with 13.0/18. Grischuk beat Carlsen in the final round of the Rapid stage which made sure Carlsen finish sole second, a point behind So at 12.0/18. Both Grischuk and Nepomniachtchi finished at shared third place with 10.0/18. Harikrishna finished at shared fourth place with 9.0/18. 12 individuals played out of their skin to ensure that team India win its first ever medal at an Olympiad. Team India and Russia jointly won the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020. IM Sagar Shah got in touch with 14 individuals who were an integral part of this victory. 12 players - Vishy Anand, Vidit Gujrathi, Harikrishna, Aravindh Chithambaram, Koneru Humpy, D. Harika, Bhakti Kulkarni, R. Vaishali, Praggnanandhaa, Nihal Sarin, Vantika Agrawal and Divya Deshmukh. Additionally we also spoke to vice captain Srinath Narayanan who played a huge role in India's victory and Samay Raina who helped to bring in huge number of followers for the event!

Carlsen got back at the top by scoring all three wins and took sole lead with 9.0/12. Harikrishna had a tough day. Despite starting well against both Nepomniachtchi and Carlsen, positional and tactical mistakes respectively cost him two important games. So and Nepomniachtchi share the second position at the conclusion of Day 2 with 8.0/12. So scored a win and two draws, while Nepomniachtchi scored two wins and a loss. Rs.566583 raised for coach Durgesh, Play for him this Saturday

After publishing an article nine days ago about Durgesh, a well-known chess trainer from Bangalore, who suffered from brain haemorrhage and is in the hospital fighting for his life, the chess community has once again come and took a stand together for a noble cause. We have had 297 donors and managed to raise Rs. 5,66,583. Although his surgery is completed, the path to recovery is long and he will need quite a bit of financial resources to get through this phase of his life. Durgesh's good friend Sushrutha Reddy sponsored Rs.50,000 as the prize fund for the tournament that will be held on this Saturday 19th of September 2020. Harikrishna makes a fantastic start at Saint Louis Rapid

Harikrishna continues his fantastic form from the FIDE Online Olympiad and Polish Team Championship, as he scored an unbeaten 5.0/6 in the first three rounds in Saint Louis Rapid Online. He started the day with a fine victory over Dominguez then he made a solid draw with Firouzja. In the third round of the day, he beat Grischuk who tried too hard to push for a win. Carlsen lost to Nepomniachtchi in Round 2 due to disconnection. Aronian also finished the day with 5.0/6, sharing the lead with Harikrishna. Round 4 resumes tonight from 11:30 p.m. IST. As previously seen by the youngsters of Indian chess, and their ability to change their routine in light of the Coronavirus, all chess players (and admittedly other sports too) have been restricted heavily in this lockdown. Chess players are improvising and doing their best to make up for the experience, and while the online tournament and practice from home comes close to sealing the gap, there is still a fine line between the two. There are differing ways of adapting to the changes, but chess players will always find a way. Some of these are pretty relatable, and I'm sure a lot of us have indeed checked these out! Read on for more, and always remember, that no matter how hard it may seem, the dark knight always rises.

Harikrishna will debut at Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz Online today

Harikrishna has played in 2020 Champions Showdown early this year in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA. However he will make his debut in Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz Online. The over-the-board event was part of a Grand Chess Tour. Since all events got either cancelled or delayed, Saint Louis Chess Club continued with their tradition and this time took the event online to make sure the super strong event takes place. With a fantastic performance at Biel Masters, winning Gold for Team India at FIDE Online Olympiad and also for Team VOTUM SA Polonia Wrocław in 2020 Polish Team Championship, Harikrishna is definitely in a great form. Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura had an identical performance on the final day of 2020 Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX. As both of them scored a victory and drew the other two games. They became Co-Champions with a score of 6.0/9 Meanwhile, previous day leader Aronian had a difficult day as he scored two draws and suffered one loss. Aronian and Caruana finished at shared third place with 5.5/9. Firouzja might have finished at the bottom of the final standings but he finished his event with a victory over the reigning Fischer Random World Champion Wesley So. Day 2 of 2020 Champions Showdown 9LX belonged to the Armenia no.1 Levon Aronian as he wrecked through all three opponents and take the sole lead with 4.5/6. He felt like he was playing with more passion in his games. Meanwhile in the battle of World Champions, So once again had Carlsen's number as Carlsen suffered defeat in the fifth round. Carlsen was visibly distracted against Nakamura in Round 4 and the game turned out to be a draw. Three players are at shared second position with 4.0/6 and they are - Carlsen, Nakamura and So. Gukesh wins GoodEarth Online Blitz Open

GM D Gukesh scored a triple hat-trick with 9.0/9, a loss in the final round did not affect his final standings. Gukesh wins ₹12000. GM Jose Eduardo Martinez also finished with 9.0/10 at the second position. Runner-up Martinez earned ₹10000. IM Mitrabha Guha scored sole 8.5/10 to secure third position and won ₹7000. GoodEarth sponsored the entire prize fund of ₹50000. The unprecedented pandemic Covid-19 might have caused a lot of events to be cancelled or delayed, however Saint Louis Chess Club continues their tradition and due to the prevailing circumstances they shifted the 2020 Champions Showdown Chess 9LX to online with an incredible lineup starring Magnus Carlsen, Garry Kasparov, Wesley So among the World Champions and two-time World Cup winner Levon Aronian, Speed King Hikaru Nakamura and others. Each day three rounds are played. Three minutes are given to the players after the randomly drawn position is shared with the players.
