MCT Finals: Carlsen sets up a 'Dream Final'

Magnus Carlsen will face Hikaru Nakamura at the finals of Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals. Of course it is a highly anticipated dream final. The fourth set of the Semi-Final match between Carlsen and Ding Liren was not like the first three sets as Ding Liren struck back in the second game immediately after losing the first one. Three draws followed by a tumultuous final blitz game. World champion's blunder did allow Ding Liren to have a real chance at the finals but he couldn't maintain his foothold and a slip cost him the important game, set and match. Talk of the Universe: Ganguly in conversation with David Navara

David Navara is Czech no.1 and World no.27 at the moment. He is also known as one of the most humble and nicest grandmasters in the world. He is also a good friend of Harikrishna and lives just two floors apart in the same building in Prague. He was latest guest on Surya Sekhar Ganguly's talk show In Conversation with. We get to know about how Navara started his journey in chess, his first coach, when he played against Kasparov for the first time, his favorite chess and non-chess books and many more things. MCT Finals: Nakamura eliminates Dubov and advances to the finals

Nakamura continues his momentum as he defeated Dubov in third consecutive set and secured his place in the finals of Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals. After making two draws in the first two games of the third set, the 'Speed King' capitalized on his opponent's mistake and won the third game. In the fourth rapid game, Nakamura was completely winning, yet he decided to make a draw as it was enough for him to advance to the finals. Carlsen made a short draw in the first game against Ding Liren and then he beat him in the next two games, taking a 2-1 lead. Ding Liren must win the next set to keep his chances alive. Praggnanandhaa shows his phenomenal knowledge and skills on his 15th birthday

10th of August 2020 - Praggnanandhaa turned 15 years old. In order to celebrate his birthday, Pragg was sent a message by IM Sagar Shah - Would you like to test yourself today? Without any hesitation Pragg agreed. Normal 15 year old kids would love to have a party or spend time with their friends on their birthday. But Pragg is different. He would rather give up everything that is dear to him, if he could spend some time learning a new trick on the chess board. And, so the test began! 15 positions were solved in almost an hour. Two more bonus positions were given! At the end of it all it turned out to be a tremendous test, which you too should give it a go and then compare yourself with the biggest talent that the chess world has seen in recent years.

MCT Finals: Carlsen avenges his loss

One thing you can always count on is Carlsen avenging his loss. After losing the first set against Ding Liren on the first day of Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Finals, the world champion won the second set in just three games. Ding Liren couldn't get out of the gate in the second set. Nakamura continued his domination over Dubov as after making a marathon 91-move draw in the first game, Dubov got a half chance in the endgame of the next game but he was unable to capitalize. In the last two games, things just did not go in Dubov's way. The former World Rapid champion Daniil Dubov is in a must-win situation. MCT Finals: Ding Liren beats Carlsen in the first set

Ding Liren started his campaign with a win over the reigning World Champion in The Finals of Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour. Carlsen struck back and won Game 2. The China no.1 and World no.3 missed a win in Game 3, the following game was an uneventful draw. Carlsen lost Game 5 due to some technical issue. He immediately struck back in Game 6 forcing an Armageddon which the Chinese drew with black pieces allowing him to win the first set of the Semi-Finals. Meanwhile Nakamura and Dubov had four decisive games before making a draw in the fifth game. Jakhongir Vakhidov wins The Knighthood Online Blitz | A total of Rs.211226 raised

GM Jakhongir Vakhidov won the strongest and the highest prize money Online Blitz event by ChessBase India on 1st August - The Knighthood Online Blitz Open. He won ₹40000 cash prize for his monumental efforts. Eight players finished at 8.0/10. The remaining podium places were taken by Russian GMs - Maksim Chigaev and Vladimir Fedoseev. Both of them made their debut in ChessBase India Online Blitz events. A total of 210 players including 39 GMs, 25 IMs, 2 WGMs and 6 WIMs took part from 12 countries across the world. On the next day, India no.3 GM Vidit Gujrathi played a Simul against the Specially Abled and Age Group prize winners. A detailed report of this mega event.

Chess has evolved a lot since it was first introduced competitively in India. Contributing to the increase were the best Indian players and Anand of course is the cornerstone of the growth. Over the past few decade, the game has grown beyond anyone could have ever fathomed. All chess players know how taxing it is both mentally and physically to sit hunched over a board and calculate hundreds of intricate variations with a time ticking down with hundreds of players playing simultaneously in a tournament hall. However some people who have never been to a tournament hall furrow at the thought of calling chess a 'sport', for them it is just a board game to be played to pass the time.
