Aleksey Goganov clinches ChessMood Open, Narayanan finishes second

Alexey Goganov (RUS) drew with Narayanan S L in the final round to win the ChessMood Open. Narayanan had to settle for second place. This is the third event of the year when Narayanan performed at over 2700. He gained 10 Elo rating points in this event which took his live rating to 2657. Goganov won 2,500,000 Armenian Drams (approx. ₹3.95 lacs), Narayanan received 1,750,000 AMD (approx. ₹2.76 lacs). Praggnanandhaa, Abhimanyu Puranik and Karthik Venkataraman scored 6.5/9 each. Giri and Arpita scored important victories to ensure The Kingslayers score their first win of the event against Pivotal Pawns. Brutal Bishops drew with Quintessential Queens to emerge as the early sole leader. Ruthless Rooks bounced back from a first round loss, as they beat Krazy Knights 2-4. Alexey Goganov (RUS) beat Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (ARM) in the penultimate round to take sole lead 7.0/8 for the first time, heading into the final round of ChessMood Open. Top seed Narayanan S L 6.5/8 beat fellow countryman, Arjun Erigaisi to keep his championship hopes. Goganov and Narayanan will face each other in the final round. A draw is enough for Goganov to win the tournament, while Narayanan must defeat him to become champion. Both of them will have tie-breaks in their favor if they can score the desired result. Krazy Knights, Pivotal Pawns and Brutal Bishops are the three teams who started their campaign with a victory against Quintessential Queens, Ruthless Rooks and The Kingslayers respectively in the first round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. Brutal Bishops lived up to their team name as they defeated The Kingslayers brutally 4.5-1.5 and did not allow a single game victory to the team whose name is inspired by the famous tale from the series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Alexey Goganov (RUS) beat Aram Hakobyan (ARM) to join the lead with Ter-Sahakyan. Five players are trailing by a half point. They are - Narayanan, Arjun, Pantsulaia, Abhimanyu and Tigran L Petrosian. Arjun, Praggnanandhaa, Sandipan and Karthik scored victories among the Indians at the top. Gukesh was held to a solid draw by IM Artur Davtyan. La Nucia Open: Iniyan beats Postny with a picturesque finish

GM P Iniyan beat the previous round leader GM Evgeny Postny (ISR) in the fifth round of La Nucia International Open to take the sole lead 4.5/5. Iniyan scored a very nice win with a picturesque finish against Postny who had a huge momentum as he won four consecutive games. Iniyan will face GM Andrey Sumets (UKR) in the sixth round. A total of 87 players in the Open section, including 10GMs, 9 IMs, a WGM and a WIM are taking part from 14 countries across the world. GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan defeated compatriot IM David Shahinyan in the sixth round to regain his sole lead 5.5/6 at ChessMood Open. Four players are trailing by a half point. They are - Narayanan S L, Levan Pantsulaia (GEO), Abhimanyu Puranik and Alexey Goganov (RUS). All three of them won their respective games in the sixth round. IM Bharath Subramaniyam H had a 116-move long marathon draw against GM Arman Mikaelyan (ARM). Arjun, Gukesh, Sandipan and Karthik won their respective games. Praggnanandhaa is the only Indian who is a half point behind the leader. They will face each other in the fifth round.
