CCT Finals: Magnus Carlsen wins the first-ever NFT trophy

Magnus Carlsen ended the tournament on a high note as he defeated his arch nemesis of the Tour, Wesley So in the final round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. This ended Carlsen's losing streak. Teimour Radjabov registered his sixth consecutive match victory of the event. He played impressive chess throughout the Finals and secured the second place. Carlsen won the first-ever NFT trophy in a professional chess tournament and US$ 100,000. Radjabov got US$ 60,000. Aronian secured third place after a victory over Mamedyarov in the final round. ChessMood Open R1: Vedant Panesar stuns Tigran Harutyunyan

Vedant Panesar scored the biggest upset of the first round at ChessMood Open. He beat GM Tigran Harutyunyan (ARM) convincingly. CM Robert Piliposyan (ARM) held Georgia no.4 GM Levan Pantsulaia and WIM Priyanka Nutakki held GM Luka Paichadze to a draw. GM Narayanan S L is the top seed of the tournament. He is followed by D Gukesh who is the second seeded player. Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa and Abhimanyu Puranik among the other top Indian seeds at the tournament. A total of 103 players including 26 GMs, 22 IMs, a WGM and 4 WIMs are taking part from ten countries across the world. Alexey Sarana wins Junior U21 Round Table Open, Arjun Erigaisi finishes second

Top seed GM Alexey Sarana (RUS) scored an unbeaten 7.0/9 to win Junior U21 Round Table Open. Both Sarana and GM Arjun Erigaisi scored the same points, however Sarana clinched the championship due to better tie-breaks and Arjun had to settle for second place. Sarana won €10000, Arjun got €2500. GM Abhimantu Puranik, IM Bharath Subramaniyam H and GM D Gukesh scored 6.5/9, they were placed third to fifth respectively according to the tie-breaks. CCT Finals R8: Aronian beats Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen suffered his second consecutive match loss in the penultimate round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. The loss against Aronian is overall Carlsen's third winless match loss of the event. It is quite obvious that the world champion would prefer to save his energy now, considering his world championship defense is a little over a month away, however he would definitely like to finish the event on a high note. Magnus Carlsen clinches Meltwater Champions Chess Tour with two rounds to spare

Magnus Carlsen won the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals and the entire Tour despite losing the seventh round match against Radjabov. The FIDE World Cup 2019 winner showed the world his true strength when he faced the world champion as he won the match without losing a single game. Radjabov is now aiming for second place finish as So lost his second consecutive match. Duda ended Artemiev's great momentum. Mamedyarov and Aronian won their respective matches against Giri and So in minimum number of games. Speed King Nakamura won his fifth tie-break and second Armageddon of the event. India wins a historic Silver at World Women’s Team Championship 2021

Indian women won the ever alluring medal at the World Women's Team Championship 2021. While India was not favorite to win the event or know the complete lineup until few days before the event, they braved all odds, made the most out of it and played some inspirational chess. Harika, Vaishali, Tania, Bhakti and Mary everyone contributed to the team whenever required. Coaches Abhijit Kunte and Shyam Sundar provided crucial support and made critical decisions. CFR Team was dominant throughout the tournament as they won all eleven matches in this event. CCT Finals R6: Carlsen beats Giri, on the brink of winning the Tour

Magnus Carlsen seems unstoppable as he beat Anish Giri in the sixth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. The world champion exchanged his queen for three minor pieces as early as move no.7 and went on to win the game, showcasing his prowess. He is now at 28.5 points, his nearest rival Wesley So got decimated by Radjabov and he is at 21.5 points. The Azerbaijan no.2 is threatening to take the second place as he moves to 18 points. Artemiev scored his third consecutive match victory. Duda checkmated Aronian in just 18 moves after the latter blundered a mate in one. Only three rounds left. World Women’s Team 2021 SF: India advances to the Finals, sets up a clash with Russia

Indian women have done it again. They eliminated Georgia to advance to the Finals of the FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2021. Indian women have never won a medal at this event, until now. Qualifying to the Finals of the first-ever knockout format of this event has assured a Silver, however we all want our women to go for Gold. The entire team effort brought India to this historic Final. While everyone wanted an India-Russia Final at the Online Olympiads last month, now it will happen over the board at Sitges, Spain. IM Bharath Subramaniyam H is terrific from at Junior U21 Round Table Open. He prevented the tournament leader, GM Alexey Sarana 5.5/6 from making a double hat-trick. Bharath is at 4.5/6 along with GM Abhimanyu Puranik, GM Hans Niemann, GM Vugar Asadli, IM Muradli Mahammad and IM Nail Bashirli. Arjun Erigaisi 5.0/6 will face Sarana in the seventh round. Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa and Iniyan suffered a loss in the sixth round against Arjun, Muradli and Bashirli respectively. World Women’s Team 2021 QF: India eliminates Kazakhstan and advances to the Semifinals

India eliminated Kazakhstan in the Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals of FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2021. This triumph ensured India's first ever medal in this event. Mary Ann Gomes played a key role as she won both of her games in the Quartefinals. Harika after missing out a win in the first Duel, managed to convert her advantage and score a convincing win in the second Duel. Vaishali drew both of her games. Tania lost a completely winning game and Bhakti also had a good position in her game. India will face Georgia in the Semifinals today. CCT Finals R5: Carlsen annihilates Nakamura

It is well-known by now that whenever Carlsen loses a game, he makes a fierce comeback. Nakamura faced the wrath of the world champion who defeated him 2.5-0.5 in fifth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. Vachier-Lagrave also took the minimum number of games to defeat Duda. Artemiev and Radjabov defeated Mamedyarov and Aronian 2.5-1.5 each respectively. Carlsen once again extended his lead to 26.5 points, So seems to be the only one who is remotely close at 21.5 points. TePe Sigeman & Co 2021 R7: Nihal finishes with a draw against Short

Nihal Sarin scored 3.0/7 to finish at shared sixth place in TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2021. It goes without saying that Nihal was not in his best form in this event. He managed to make a draw with the legendary Nigel Short in the final round. Gawain Jones became the only player to beat the tournament champion, Jorden van Foreest, still the Netherlands no.2 managed to finish a full point ahead of the field. Short, Jones and Keymer shared the second place 4.0/7. Nils Grandelius finished at sole fifth place 3.5/7, Nihal and Bacrot shared sixth position and Jonas Buhl Bjerre had a tough tournament 1.5/7. World Women’s Team 2021 R5: India will face Kazakhstan in the Quarterfinals

India defeated France 3-1 in the fifth round of FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2021 to finish second in Pool A. They will face the third place finisher of Pool B, Kazakhstan in the Quarterfinals today. India has an advantage that they can bring an element of surprise with the board order which their opponent team cannot, as they have only four members and no reserve player. Harika and Mary have remained unbeaten in the Pool stage. Knockout stage is a best of two matches, named 'Duel'. IM Sankalp Gupta scored an unbeaten 7.0/9 to win Joytu Sheikh Hasina International GM 2021. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players finished at 6.5/9 and they were placed second to sixth respectively. They are - IM Mitrabha Guha, IM Aronyak Ghosh, IM Sayantan Das, GM Ziaur Rahman and GM Masoud Mosadeghpour. Sankalp won US$ 4000 (approx ₹297000), Mitrabha received US$ 2500 (approx. ₹185000) and Aronyak got (₹111000). CCT Finals R4: Artemiev beats Carlsen

Vladislav Artemiev handed Magnus Carlsen his first match defeat of the event in the fourth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. The Russian remained undefeated and did not require tie-breaks. Radjabov, Aronian, Nakamura and Mamedyarov are the remaining victors of the round with only Nakamura playing the sole tie-breaks of the day as he drew all four Rapid games against So.
