Tata Steel 2022 R9: Too strong Arjun Erigaisi is two points ahead

Arjun Erigaisi has been playing at a whole different level this entire tournament. He defeated WGM Jiner Zhu to increase his lead by two points 8.0/9 at Tata Steel Chess Challengers 2022. Rinat Jumabayev and Thai Dai Van Nguyen are in the chase at 6.0/9 each. Magnus regained his sole lead 6.5/9 as he beat Mamedyarov. The Azeri's exchange sacrifice did not pay off. Anish scored his second consecutive victory and fourth full point to move to sole second position 6.0/9. Vidit drew with Rapport to be in shared third position along with Mamedyarov 5.5/9. Lalit Rohit scores a hat-trick by winning Marienbad Open 2022

GM Lalit Rohit continues his fantastic momentum in 2022. He won his second tournament of the year and third consecutive event since he won Thailand Chess Festival on 22nd December, last year. Then he won Vergani Cup 2022 on 9th January. On 22nd January, he won Marienbad Open A2 GM Round Robin scoring 6.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition. He won 7000 CZK (approx ₹24069) as his first prize. Total prize fund was 20000 CZK. Lalit won all three events without losing a single game. He scored 21.0/27 in total in three tournaments. Tata Steel 2022 R8: Vidit bounces back with a win

Vidit Gujrathi bounced back with a nice victory against Nils Grandelius in Round 8 of 84th Tata Steel Chess 2022. He surprised the Sweden no.1 with his fantastic opening preparation to move to 5.0/8. Magnus Carlsen drew his game. Praggnanandhaa suffered his second consecutive loss, this time against Mamedyarov. Magnus and Shakh are now co-leaders 5.5/8. They will face each other in the next round. Anish Giri scored his third consecutive full point. He is also now a half point behind the leaders along with Vidit. Arjun Erigaisi continues his incredible run as he beat Jonas Buhl Bjerre to once again restore his 1.5 point lead. He is now at 7.0/8. Today is the second rest day of the event. Vidit and Harikrishna aim for Candidates qualification at FIDE Grand Prix 2022

We already know the six players who have qualified for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2022. They are - Teimour Radjabov, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Jan Krzysztof-Duda, Alireza Firouzja, Fabiano Caruana and Sergey Karjakin. The remaining two spots will be filled up by the top finishers of FIDE Grand Prix 2022 which is slated to start from 3rd February 2022 in Berlin, Germany. Vidit Gujrathi had already qualified to the Grand Prix by finishing as a Quarterfinalist in the FIDE World Cup 2021. Pentala Harikrishna replaced Wei Yi in the 16-player lineup. Tata Steel 2022 R7: Dubov stands by his principle

Arjun Erigaisi saved a difficult position to draw his game against Rinat Jumabayev. He maintains his sole lead, 6.0/7. The seventh round of Tata Steel Chess 2022 witnessed maximum decisive results which includes a forfeit by Dubov who refused to wear a mask during his game. In the official statement by Tata Steel Chess, it was mentioned that someone in his inner circle tested positive, Dubov went through a quick scan test which turned negative, however the result of PCR test was yet to come. Magnus Carlsen won the first-ever over-the-board game against Praggnanandhaa. Tata Steel 2022 R6: Unstoppable Arjun Erigaisi wins again, storms into World Top 100

Arjun Erigaisi beat fellow countryman Surya Sekhar Ganguly to register his fifth consecutive win in the sixth round to extend his lead by 1.5 points at Tata Steel Chess 2022 in the Challengers section. This win allowed him to break into the World Top 100. For the very first time, India now has eight players among them. Thai Dai Van Nguyen and Rinat Jumabayev are the closest rivals at 4.0/6 each. Vidit Gujrathi drew with Jan-Krzysztof Duda to maintain his lead 4.0/6 in the Masters. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov also drew his game. Vidit Gujrathi drew with Anish Giri in Round 5. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov beat defending champion Jorden van Foreest and Richard Rapport won against Praggnanandhaa in a complex and interesting battle. Both Mamedyarov and Rapport joined Vidit in a three-way lead 3.5/5 at 84th Tata Steel Chess 2022. Arjun Erigaisi scored his fourth consecutive victory to increase his sole lead by a full point, 3.5/5. Three players - Thai Dai Van Nguyen, Rinat Jumabayev and Surya Sekhar Ganguly are at 3.5/5 each. Pranav Venkatesh wins 4th Kudremukh Trophy All India Rapid Rating Open 2022

15-year-old IM Pranav Venkatesh started the tournament with seven consecutive victories. He lost the eighth round to S S Manigandan, however he bounced back well by defeating the top seed of the tournament IM Viani Antonio Dcunha in the final round to win 4th Kudremukh Trophy All India Rapid Rating Open 2022. Pranav, Manigandan and Balkishan A, all three scored 8.0/9 each. They were placed first to third according to tie-breaks. The tournament had a total prize fund of ₹200000 with the first prize being ₹30000, ₹20000 for second and ₹10000 for third. Top three prizes had a trophy each and total 165 prizes were up for grabs. Vidit Gujrathi made a good practical decision to offer a draw at the right time against Andrey Esipenko. It was not clear which way the game was heading. The Russian decided to accept it. Since none of the pursuers scored a victory, Vidit maintained his sole lead 3.0/4, heading into the first rest day of 84th Tata Steel Chess 2022. Praggnanandhaa scored his first win of the event against Nils Grandelius. Arjun Erigaisi had a comfortable victory against IM Roven Vogel to take sole lead 3.5/4. Tata Steel 2022 R3: Defiant Vidit defeats Dubov, takes sole lead, now World no.19

Vidit Gujrathi definitely played one of the best game of his career to beat Daniil Dubov in Round 3 of 84th Tata Steel Chess 2022. He had to play a series of only moves to survive a tough duel against the former World Rapid champion, who was unable to find a draw in the final moments. Later Vidit walked his king all the way from d8 to d2, which he does not think to be the highlight of the game in his fantastic victory. It earned him a sole lead 2.5/3. Arjun Erigaisi defeated Daniel Dardha to be in a three-way lead along with GM Thai Dai Van Nguyen and IM Volodar Murzin. Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2022 Dortmund to take place this July

The historic Sparkassen Chess Trophy, 49th Dortmund Chess Days will be a chess festival once again this July. It is slated to take place between 16th and 24th July 2022 at Westfalenhallen in Dortmund, Germany. There will be two groups of Open events. The organizers are aiming for a 600 player participation, 300 in each category. Last year's Sparkassen Online Open winner Krishnan Sasikiran has been invited to the NC World Masters. This year also the  No Castling Online Open will take place at lichess before the main event, so that players from both A and B category can take part in the event. Magnus Carlsen beats Anish Giri for the first time in 11 years at Tata Steel Chess

Over the years, Magnus Carlsen has etched his name in a lot of statistical records, however one thing he has not done in eleven years, is beat Anish Giri in a Classical game at Tata Steel Chess. That fact changed as the world champion humbled the Dutch no.1 in the second round of Tata Steel Chess 2022. The only time Carlsen had beaten him earlier was in Playoffs back in 2018. Vidit and Praggnanandhaa drew their respective games against Caruana and Duda.
