CCT Finals R4: Artemiev beats Carlsen

Vladislav Artemiev handed Magnus Carlsen his first match defeat of the event in the fourth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. The Russian remained undefeated and did not require tie-breaks. Radjabov, Aronian, Nakamura and Mamedyarov are the remaining victors of the round with only Nakamura playing the sole tie-breaks of the day as he drew all four Rapid games against So. Jorden van Foreest clinches TePe Sigeman & Co 2021 with a round to go

Jorden van Foreest defeated Jonas Buhl Bjerre to win TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2021 with a round to go. He is now 5.0/6 and there is no possibility for anyone to catch him even if he loses his last round game against Gawain Jones. Nigel Short and Nils Grandelius are at 3.5/6, Jones and Keymer are at 3.0/6 each respectively. Nihal Sarin had a good initiative against Etienne Bacrot, but he was unable to seize his chance. Both are now at 2.5/6. World Women’s Team 2021 R3-4: India advances to the Quarterfinals with a round to spare

India has advanced to the Quarterfinals at FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2021. They defeated Armenia 2.5-1.5 in the third round and lost to CFR Team (Russia) 3-1 in the fourth round. Harika played solid and drew both of her games, Tania and Bhakti scored important victories to ensure India's victory against Armenia, Vaishali lost both of her games, Mary drew her only game. Both Vaishali and Mary had good chances against Kosteniuk and Shuvalova respectively. India may have lost the Pool stage match against Russia, but a potential rematch in the knockout stage will definitely be an interesting one. Round 5 starts today at 3 p.m. CET (6:30 p.m. IST). The Chess Super League is a grand event which will be held online from the 11th to the 17th of October 2021. Samay Raina, ChessBase India and Nodwin Gaming have come together to launch the league which will be known as the Chess Super League. Each team will be owned by a well-known celebrity and will consist of Top International players, top Indian players and top Indian juniors. The total prize fund of the event is Rs.40 lakh (US$54,000). CCT Finals R3: Carlsen beats Vachier-Lagrave in tie-breaks

Magnus Carlsen is cruising towards the finish as he beat Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the third round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. The world champion bounced back strong after suffering three losses against Mamedyarov on the previous day. The Frenchman managed to defeat the world champion only once. Duda and Giri got the better of Azerbaijan's Mamedyarov and Radjabov in tie-breaks respectively. TePe Sigeman & Co 2021 R5: Jorden extends his lead

Jorden van Foreest increased his lead as he defeated Etienne Bacrot in the fifth round of TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2021. Bacrot's passive maneuvering of his piece cost him the game. Jonas Buhl Bjerre suffered his third loss of the event, this time against Sweden no.1, Nils Grandelius. Nigel Short missed a great opportunity to beat compatriot Gawain Jones for the first time since 2012. He tweeted feeling like he lost the game. World Women’s Team 2021 R1-2: India makes a steady start

Indian women made a good start at FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2021. They drew the first round 2-2 against Azerbaijan and won the second round match against Spain 1.5-2.5. Currently they are in shared second place along with Armenia with 3.0/4. Four teams from each pool will advance to the Knockout stages. Harika scored 1.5/2, Tania lost her first round game, Bhakti made 0.5/2 and Mary drew her only game in the second round. India will face Armenia in the third round and CFR Team (Russia) in the fourth round. CCT Finals R2: Carlsen wins a thriller against Mamedyarov

If the recent over-the-board encounter between Mamedyarov and Carlsen left you unsatiated and kept you wanting for more, fret not, they had a slobber-knocker of a match in the second round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. After six decisive games, Carlsen defeated Mamedyarov in Armageddon to win the match. Vachier-Lagrave lived up to his proclamation and dominated So by winning the match in just three games. Duda and Aronian defeated Giri and Artemiev by 2.5-1.5 each respectively without the need of tie-breaks. Nakamura got the better of Radjabov in Blitz tie-breaks. TePe Sigeman & Co 2021 R4: Nihal beats Gawain Jones

Nihal Sarin scored his first victory of the event as he defeated Gawain Jones in the fourth round of TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2021. The 17-year-old did not get rattled when Gawain Jones sacrificed a pawn to launch an attack on his opponent's kingside. The Indian managed to thwart all attempts and eventually score a victory. This was also his first win over Jones in a Classical game. Nigel Short defeated Jonas Buhl Bjerre to move to 2.5/4, a half point behind the leader Jorden van Foreest 3.0/4. Harika will spearhead India at FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2021

Days after winning the Bronze medal at the FIDE Online Olympiad 2021, Indian women's team will start their FIDE World Women's Team Championship campaign on Monday, September 27th at Sitges, Spain. The tournament format has slightly changed from a Round-Robin even to Pool stage and then knockout. Top four from each pool will advance to the Quarterfinals. In 2019, Indian women's team finished at sixth place, they would definitely like to better that finish this time. Tabatabaei clinches 4th Sharjah Masters 2021

M Amin Tababtabaei (IRI) drew his last round game against Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB) to win 4th Sharjah Masters 2021. Apart from Tabatabaei, Pavel Eljanov (UKR), Salem Saleh (UAE) and Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) also scored 6.5/9. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Narayanan S L 6.0/9 was the best finisher among Indians at seventh place, followed by Abhijeet Gupta at ninth 6.0/9, Adhiban tenth 5.5/9, Arjun Erigaisi twelfth 5.5/9 and Raunak Sadhwani 16th 5.5/9. CCT Finals R1: Carlsen and So make a dominant start

Magnus Carlsen started the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals with 16.5 point lead over Jan-Krzysztof Duda. The bonus points is from the entire tour performance of this season. Duda has a monumental task in front of him if he wants to win the event. A loss against Carlsen did not help his situation either, as the world champion moved to 19.5 points in the points table. Wesley So is the only other player who won his match in the rapid, thus he also gained 3 points, taking his points tally to 15.5 points. The next player in the points table is Aronian at 9 points. 83rd Tata Steel Chess 2021 winner and Netherlands no.2, Jorden van Foreest outprepared and outplayed Nigel Short in the third round of TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2021. The Dutch emerged as the sole leader with a score of 2.5/3. Etienne Bacrot is the only other winner of the round as he defeated Nils Grandelius who had a tactical oversight. Nihal Sarin drew with Jonas Buhl Bjerre and Gawain Jones made a draw with Vincent Keymer. Nihal will face Jones in the next round and Jorden will be up against Grandelius. Gukesh makes a Golden debut for Prilep at 36th European Chess Club Cup 2021

GM D Gukesh is consistently doing well. Exactly a week after winning his second consecutive tournament, Norway Chess 2021 Masters, Gukesh made a stellar debut at the 36th European Chess Club Cup 2021. He scored 5.5/7, performed at 2815 and gained 18.7 Elo rating points which earned him an individual Gold medal on Board no.1 ahead of Mamedov, Mamedyarov, Donchenko, Grischuk, Korobov, Harikrishna and Svidler. The 15-year-old's impressive debut at the star-studded event, took his live rating to 2640. Prilep finished 14th overall, Gukesh lived up to his billing of top player of the team with a top-notch performance. Joytu Sheikh Hasina GM R4-6: Mitrabha and Sankalp in the lead 5.0/6

IM Sankalp Gupta beat IM Mitrabha Guha in the sixth round to share the lead at 5.0/6 in Joyu Sheikh Hasina International GM 2021. IM Aronyak Ghosh, IM Nubairshah Shaikh and IM Sayantan Das are just a half point behind at 4.5/6 each respectively. Mitrabha went for Sankalp's rook by giving up two minor pieces. Initially at a first glance it may look interesting but in reality it was just the opposite. Aronyak beat Taibur Rahman (BAN) and Sayantan drew with fellow countryman Deep to maintain their chase.
