Praggnanandhaa wins Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals

Praggnanandhaa decimated his competition IM Christopher Yoo in the finals as he needed only three games to win the Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals. With this win he won US$ 12500 and a Regular place in the next year's Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. This means we will get to see him face Carlsen more than in one event and go against the world's best. Yoo was not an easy opponent as he is considered to have the strength of the Grandmaster, however Pragg made it look easy. The world champion Carlsen and the legend Anand congratulated the wunderkind on twitter. Pivotal Pawns clinch CoinDCX Chess Super League

Pivotal Pawns made a fantastic comeback after losing the first match in the Finals, they won the second one by the exact same score to force Armageddon in CoinDCX Chess Super League. Zhansaya Abdumalik won the Armageddon for Pivotal Pawns to ensure her team's name is etched in history as the winner of the first edition. Ding Liren, Zhansaya and Savitha Shri scored key victories in the second match to keep the chances alive for their team. Abhijeet Gupta made a brilliant save from a completely lost position after Sethuraman made a rare error. Teimor Radjabov, Anna Muzychuk, Vidit Gujrathi, Harika Dronavalli, Aryan Chopra, Priyanka K, Anish Giri, Karthikeyan Murali and D Gukesh won individual award worth ₹50000 each. 3rd Yerevan Open R4: Sychev, Mikaelyan and Daghli at the top

Gukesh was playing well in both 3rd Yerevan Open and CoinDCX Chess Super League. However, it takes a toll on the player eventually as both tournaments have completely different format and time control. Armenian GM Arman Mikaelyan got the better of India's youngest GM in the fourth round. Kunal M's fantastic run came to an end as his opponent Klementy Sychev proved too strong for him. GMs Klementy Sychev (RUS), Arman Mikaelyan and FM Arash Daghli (IRI) are in a three-way lead 4.0/4. Arjun Erigaisi was unable to endure a drawn endgame against Arash Tahbaz. Vincent Keymer might have been the favorite as he won more number of events in the tour, however Praggnanandhaa showed who is the better player as Keymer lost to him 0.5-2.5 in the Semifinals of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals. Pragg once again did not give any chance to his opponent as he was completely solid in all three games. He was winning the third game too but decided to draw as it was enough to secure his place in the Finals. GM Awonder Liang could not recover from his first round loss as he lost the next two also against IM Christopher Yoo who is known to have a GM strength. CoinDCX Chess Super League KO: Sethuraman powers The Kingslayers to the Final

The Kingslayer has been dominant throughout the event, however they drew with Pivotal Pawns in Qualifier 1. GM Sethuraman S P who is well-known to thrive under high-pressure situations was sent to slay GM Abhijeet Gupta in Armageddon. That is exactly what he did, and The Kingslayers became the first team to advance to the Finals of CoinDCX Chess Super Leauge. Pivotal Pawns had to take the longest route to the Finals as they had to play Qualifier 2 where they beat Brutal Bishops 4-2 convincingly to set up a clash against The Kingslayers in the Finals which starts today from 8:00 p.m. IST. 3rd Yerevan Open R3: Gukesh and Kunal in a five-way lead

Kunal M is the only untitled player among the five who are at 100% score 3.0/3 at the end of the third round of 3rd Yerevan Open. Kunal beat IM David Shahinyan in a very instructive game. GM D Gukesh is the only other Indian in the lead. GMs Arman Mikaelyan (ARM), Klementy Sychev (RUS) and FM Arash Daghli (IRI) are the remaining three players at the top. IM Bharath Subramaniyam drew with GM Arjun Erigaisi. Leon Luke Mendonca put up a valiant effort against Vincent Keymer in the Quarterfinals of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals. Keymer made a comeback from being down by a full point to level the score 2-2 and force tie-breaks. The German was too proved to be stronger in the Blitz as he defeated Leon in the second game after their first encounter ended in a draw. Pivotal Pawns defeated Krazy Knights 4-2 to finish the top of the points table at the conclusion of fifth round in CoinDCX Chess Super League. The Kingslayers and Brutal Bishops drew with the Quintessential Queens and Ruthless Rooks respectively. Both Kingslayers and Pivotal Pawns finished the group stage with same score 7.0/10. They will face each other in the Qualifier 1. Brutal Bishops and Ruthless Rooks scored 5.0/10 each. They will play in the Eliminator 1. The winner of Eliminator 1 will play against the losing team of Qualifier 1 in the Eliminator 2. The winner of Qualifier 1 and Eliminator 2 will play the Finals tomorrow. GM Gukesh defeated IM Vaishali in an exciting game after the latter sacrificed her queen but was unable follow through correctly. GM R Praggnanandhaa completely dominated IM Volodar Murzin (RUS) as he beat him in three consecutive games to storm into the Semifinals of Julius Baer Challengers Chess Tour Finals. Pragg did not give a single fragment of opportunity in all three games. The battle between IM Christopher Yoo and GM Lei Tingjie was very close. The only female player in the Finals bounced back in the second game after suffering a loss. The next two Rapid games and the first Blitz tie-break was also drawn. The Kingslayers have made their way to the knockout stage as they registered their third consecutive victory, defeating Ruthless Rooks 2.5-3.5 in the fourth round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. They started at the bottom by losing the first round, and now they are at the top of the table 6.0/8. Krazy Knights handed Brutal Bishops their first defeat of the event 4-2. Quintessential Queens suffered their third loss of the event, this time against Pivotal Pawns 2-4. Pivotal Pawns, Brutal Bishops, Ruthless Rooks and Krazy Knights fight for the remaining three spots as The Kingslayers cannot be displaced from the top four position even if we consider the worst mathematical outcome in the fifth round. 3rd Yerevan Open R1: Poormosavi holds top seed Narayanan to an exciting draw

15-year-old Iranian youth FM Seyed Kian Poormosavi (IRI) had an exciting game against GM Narayanan S L. It could have gone either player's way, yet the game, much to each player's chagrin, ended in a draw. Gukesh, Arjun and Abhimanyu scored a win each. CM Prraneeth Vuppala had Gukesh on the ropes, but he loosened his grip and let the India's youngest GM in history escape with a win. Among other upsets, untitled Sargis R Mkrtchyan (ARM) held GM Sandipan Chanda and Sambit Panda held IM P Shyam Nikhil to a draw each respectively. Iniyan clinches La Nucia Open

GM P Iniyan scored an unbeaten 7.0/8 to win La Nucia International Open 2021. He had to miss the eighth round game due to his commitments towards CoinDCX Chess Super League, still he managed to win the tournament in just eight games. He won a trophy and €2500 (approx.₹218,400) as a prize. GMs Rodrigo Vasquez Schroeder (CHI) and Andrey Sumets (UKR) also finished with the same score 7.0/9, however they were placed second and third according to the tie-breaks. This is Iniyan's third over-the-board triumph of the year since he won a double at Noisiel Open, fourth overall including online events. Check out Iniyan's favorite game from the tournament with his annotations.

A total of US$ 40,000 prize fund with the first prize being US$ 12,500 and a regular spot at the next year's Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is up for grabs. Brutal Bishops made their second consecutive draw to remain unbeaten at the conclusion of the third round of CoinDCX Chess Super League. Vidit Gujrathi scored a big win over Ding Liren, Alexandra Kosteniuk defeated Zhansaya Abdumalik to make sure Brutal Bishops remain undefeated so far. Ruthless Rooks defeated Quintessential Queens 3.5-2.5 which is the only team still in search for their first match win. The Kingslayers are going strength to strength as they beat Krazy Knights 4-2.
