Hans Niemann on the verge of winning 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co 2022

David Navara won against Alexei Shirov in a sharp skirmish arising out of Berlin. The other victor of the penultimate round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament was UAE no.1, Salem Saleh. He defeated the defending champion Jorden van Foreest with his typical picturesque finish in the endgame. Arjun Erigaisi and Hans Niemann drew with England no.1 Michael Adams and Sweden no.1 Nils Grandelius respectively. Hans is a draw away from winning the tournament 4.5/6. Golden Knights Chess Academy A scores a hat-trick at 28th Tamil Nadu State Team Rating 2022

Second seed of the tournament, Golden Knights Chess Academy A scored 100% 14.0/14 to win 28th Tamil Nadu State Team FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2022. This is their third consecutive Tamil Nadu State Team triumph, after winning the previous two editions in 2018 and 2019. They finished two points ahead of the runner-up Velammal Nexus 12.0/14 who also remained undefeated. Ananthi Chess Academy B scored 11.0/14 to secure third place. The total prize fund for the tournament was ₹50000. Top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹8000 and ₹6000 cash along with a trophy each respectively. Arjun Erigaisi got a fantastic opportunity to beat Jorden van Foreest in the final moments of the endgame. The defending champion moved his knight at the wrong part of the board which allowed Arjun to bounce back but much to his chagrin, he was unable to spot it correctly. Hans Niemann continues his great form as he beat Alexei Shirov in the fifth round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament. He is now a full point ahead of the field at 4.0/5. Sweden no.1 Nils Grandelius scored the other victory of the round against Salem Saleh who faltered in the endgame. He increased his unbeaten streak to 16 games after winning against the UAE no.1 Salem Saleh in fourth round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament. Arjun Erigaisi drew his game with Sweden no.1 Nils Grandelius. Arjun Erigaisi met his match in the form USA's top junior Hans Niemann. The in-form India no.4 suffered his first loss in the third round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2022. An incorrect queen exchange destroyed Arjun's pawn structure and made the position even more difficult to play. Niemann being an enterprising player, had no trouble seizing his advantage and converting it into a full point. Both Arjun and Niemann are currently in the lead at 2.0/3 each. Thej Kumar wins SCMA All India Rapid Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament GM Thej Kumar M S, Nithin Babu and FM Sharan Rao scored 8.0/9 each. Thej won the SCMA All India Rapid Rating Open 2022 due to better tie-break score. He took a no-draw approach, scored eight wins and the sole loss was against the eventual runner-up Nithin Babu. Sharan was placed third according to tie-breaks. All three podium finishers suffered a loss each, yet none of them made a single draw. The total prize fund for the Rapid Rating was ₹200000 along with trophies in each event. Arjun Erigaisi ensured his opponent UAE no.1 does not get into his familiar territory, which is to play attacking chess. He beautifully maneuvered his pieces and did not let the sharp player express his creativity. Eventually, he had to sacrifice an exchange in order to create an escape for his trapped knight. Czech Republic no.1 David Navara made a beautiful queen sacrifice which was thwarted by the American prodigy, Hans Niemann. The game ended in a draw. Vaishali triumphs at 8th Fischer Memorial 2022, scores her second GM-norm

IM Vaishali R scored 7.0/9 to win 8th Fischer Memorial, Heraklion GM Round Robin Tournament. Both her and FM Yoav Milikow (ISR) scored the same points. However, Vaishali beat the teenager in the fifth round, which decided the tie-breaks. The most important part is Vaishali scored her second GM-norm and took her live rating to 2430.4. She is now final GM-norm and 69.6 Elo rating away from becoming India's third woman ever to become a GM after Humpy and Harika. Among the top Indian women, IM Padmini Rout and IM Tania Sachdev are the only two who have a GM-norm each. Arjun Erigaisi scored a fiery win against Alexei Shirov (ESP) in the first round of TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2022. This win moved him three places up in the live ratings. Thus he is now World no.58. Salem Saleh (UAE) was the only other victor of the round. He defeated Czech Republic no.1 David Navara in his typical fashion of a great display of attack. Arjun will face the UAE no.1 in the second round. Hans Niemann (USA) and Nils Grandelius (SWE) drew with Michael Adams (ENG) and defending champion Jorden van Foreest (NED) respectively. 15-year-old Swara Lakshmi S Nair scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 7th ICA Below 1700 Rating Chess Tournament 2022. It is certainly an amazing feat because a female player winning an open event is not a common occurrence. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. Mrityunjay Kumar and Adithya A Chullikad scored 8.0/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Swara won ₹50000 cash and trophy, Runner-up Mrityunjay got ₹40000 and Second Runner-up Adithya earned ₹25000 cash each as their prize. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹599000. AICF has announced the biggest squad of Indian team for the upcoming 44th FIDE Olympiad 2022. Vishy Anand has been named as the mentor for all four Indian teams. India's third GM in history, Pravin Thipsay will be the Head of the Delegation. GM Srinath Narayanan, GM R B Ramesh, GM Abhijit Kunte and GM Swapnil Dhopade are the coaches.
