55th Biel MTO R3: Aryan, Visakh and Pranav Anand score superb wins

As we slowly ease into the new normal after Covid-19 pandemic, we are once again back dominating the chess universe all over the globe. GM Aryan Chopra, GM Visakh N R and IM Pranav Anand scored fantastic wins over GM Vladimir Fedoseev, GM Kirill Shevchenko (UKR) and GM Maxime Lagarde (FRA) respectively. Thus, currently four Indians are sharing the lead at 55th Biel Chess Festival 2022 MTO, GM Abhimanyu Puranik along with the three victors mentioned before. Mitrabha Guha relays the Chess Olympiad Torch at ten cities across the country

India's 72nd and West Bengal's ninth GM Mitrabha Guha received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Kolkata, West Bengal from GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury. He relayed it to nine more cities in six states across the country. Kolkata witnessed the highest number of GMs at a single Torch Relay event so far. India's 35th GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury, 51st GM Saptarshi Roy, 72nd GM Mitrabha and 14th GM Neelotpal Das graced everyone with their presence. The list of accolades they have accumulated over the years is countless. 20 children and chess enthusiasts got an opportunity to face the GMs in a tandem simul. 55th Biel GMT R1: Gukesh overpowers Abdusattorov, reaches 2698.7 and now World #39

D Gukesh made a fantastic start at the Classical event of 55th Biel Chess Festival GMT. The youngest GM of India knew very well that he has the reigning World Rapid champion's number. He defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the Chess960, was very close to winning the Rapid too. In Classical, a relentless attack eventually forced his opponent to cave in. This win netted him four points which put him at the second place 11/18, a half point behind the tournament leader Andrey Esipenko who is at 11.5/18. Gukesh also moved to 2698.7 in the live ratings and is he now the World no.39. Round 2 starts today at 2 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. IST).

FTX Road to Miami QF: Levon Aronian eliminates Arjun Erigaisi

Arjun Erigaisi started the Quarterfinals with a win. He drew the next game and then lost the next two to get eliminated by Aronian. Unlike last year, things did not spill into tie-breaks and there were more decisive games. Arjun had a decent chance to draw both games which he lost, however neither was easy to save. Both players have a lot of respect towards each other. Their next chapter might be written sooner than one can expect. Aronian will face Duda in a battle among the World Cup winners. Rupam, Anwesh and Siddhant Gawai are the winners at 15th G H Raisoni Memorial Chess Festival 2022

Rupam Mukherjee scored an unbeaten 9/10 to win 15th G H Raisoni Memorial Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to secure second position. He also won the Rapid Rating Open scoring 8.5/9 and finished second in the Blitz Rating Open with the same score. 14-year-old Siddhant Gawai scored 8/10 to secure third place according to tie-breaks in the Classical event. He also won the Blitz event scoring 8.5/9. Total prize fund combining all three tournaments was ₹400000. Top three prizes in the Classical were ₹50000 and a trophy, ₹30000 and ₹25000.

Slovakia Open Piestany 2022 R2-4: Isha Sharma outplays Michal Krasenkow

WIM Isha Sharma continues her great form at Slovakia Open Piestany 2022. She completely outplayed the legendary GM Michal Krasenkow (POL) in the third round. The first WIM of Karnataka, made an interesting sacrifice in the opening which she used to her advantage quite well. In Round 4, she drew with IM Filip Haring (SVK) to take her score to 2.5/4. FM Shantanu Bhambure and WIM Savitha Shri B are also at the same score. GM Artem Omelja (UKR) has emerged as the sole leader 4/4. FTX Road to Miami R13-15: Arjun Erigaisi set to clash with Aronian in the Quarterfinals

Arjun Erigaisi squashed Jeffery Xiong in a 21-move miniature. He drew with Anish Giri and one of his seconds, Aryan Tari. A year and about two weeks later, the reigning National Senior champion became the only Indian to advance to the Knockout stage of a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event, twice. The last time the teenager faced the two-time World Cup winner, Aronian was at the exact same stage, Arjun ended Aronian's unbeaten streak at the Goldmoney Asian Rapid. Thus, the saga began. Before he became World champion: Vishy Anand, the Speed Demon

This is the 2nd episode in the series of Olympiad stories with Saravanan. In this episode, we discuss the Madras Tiger Vishy Anand and some of his memorable games at the Olympiad. In discussing the games, Saravanan and Sagar also go into the history of how Vishy developed as a chess player. Maxime Lagarde triumphs at 20th Sautron Open 2022, Sidhant second and Bala Chandra third

France no.6 GM Maxime Lagarde scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 20th Sautron International Open 2022. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. IM Sidhant Mohapatra and IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad, both scored 7/9. Sidhant remained undefeated, secured second place due to better tie-breaks. Bala Chandra had to settle for the third place. While Sidhant drew with the eventual champion Lagarde in the sixth round, Bala Chandra lost his sole game of the event against him in the fifth. This is Sidhant's first individual podium finish of the year, second overall after a second place finish for Eastern Railway in his All-India Railway Team debut earlier this year. Liem Quang Le wins 55th Biel GMT Rapid 2022

Liem Quang Le scored 11.0/14 to win the 55th Biel International Chess Festival GMT Rapid. He finished a full point ahead of Andrey Esipenko 10/14, whom Liem beat in the final round. Reigning World Rapid champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov scored 9/14 to secure third place. Both D Gukesh and Salem Saleh made 7/14. They finished at tied fourth place. Today is a rest day for the GMT participants. Classical event Round 1 starts tomorrow 14th July from 2 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. IST). Master Tournament (MTO) starts today at the same time. FTX Road to Miami R9-12: Arjun Erigaisi storms into the Quarterfinals with Sevian

Arjun Erigaisi started the day with a loss against Jan-Krzysztof Duda. It was not easy for the FIDE World Cup 2021 winner. When Arjun miscalculated a tactic in the endgame, only then the world no.15 got a chance to get back in the game. Arjun won the next three games in-a-row against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Hans Niemann and reigning women's world champion, Wenjun Ju. Although the first two wins were a draw, Arjun showed that he is always ready to grab any opportunity that comes his way. Samuel Sevian maintained his sole lead 28/36, followed by Arjun 26/36 and Duda 24/36. Both Sevian and Arjun have advanced to the Quarterfinals. Round 13 starts today at 9:30 p.m. IST. Slovakia Open Piestany 2022 R1: Isha Sharma scores a big win

WIM Isha Sharma scored the biggest win of the first round at Slovakia Open Piestany 2022. She defeated IM Martin Neugebauer (SVK) by launching a clinical attack on the kingside. IM Raahil Mullick had GM Michal Krasenkow (POL) on the ropes. Despite having an advantage for the better part part of the game, the Polish legend managed to escape his opponent's grasp and get away with a draw. FM Shantanu Bhambure and WIM Savitha Shri B were the other victors of the round among Indians. The total prize fund of the tournament is €7000. Surya Ganguly wins Chess960 Rapid Open at 55th Biel, Sethuraman second

GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly won the Chess960 Rapid Open with an unbeaten 6.5/7 at 55th Biel Chess Festival. He finished a full point ahead of the runner-up, GM Sethuraman S P 5.5/7. WGM Vera Nebolsina (FRA) also scored 5.5/7, however she was adjudged third according to tie-breaks. Gukesh started well in the GMT Accentus Chess960 with a hat-trick of wins, before scoring only a half point in the next four games. The standings of this event is used to determine the seeding of the Classical segment of the GMT. The Rapid event will take place on Tuesday 12th July. Who do you think will win the GMT? FTX Road to Miami R5-8: Arjun Erigaisi ascends to the second place

Arjun Erigaisi bounced back well from a previous round loss. He defeated Radoslaw Wojtaszek and Sam Shankland in consecutive games before a draw against Wei Yi. He finished the second day of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour FTX Road to Miami with a win over Leinier Dominguez Perez to climb to the second place 17/24. Samuel Sevian increased his win streak to four games to move up to the top of the points table 20/24. Teimour Radjabov had to withdraw from the event after losing his fifth round game against Anish Giri, citing some health issues to the arbiters. Top Georgian female player GM Bela Khotenashvili and her husband IM Malkhaz Sulashvili have fought many battles over the chess board.
