Deepan Chakkravarthy wins 1st Queenstar Rating Open 2023, Raahul V S third

GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, GM Azer Mirzoev (AZE), IM Raahul V S and CM Isara Banidu Dahanayake (SRI) scored an unbeaten 8/9 each. Deepan won the 1st Queenstar Rating Open 2023 due to better tie-breaks. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. Deepan drew with both remaining podium finishers. The total prize fund was LKR 2.2 Million. The top three prizes were LKR 200000, 125000 and 75000 along with a trophy and medal each respectively. Deepan won ₹51080 approximately. Ding Liren set to battle against Nepomniachtchi, Rapport and co. at Superbet Chess Classic 2023

Grand Chess Tour is back with some elite level action. The new world champion Ding Liren will face the former world championship challenger, Ian Nepomniachtchi. The 17th world champion's second Richard Rapport will also be seen battling against him. They will be joined by six of the world top ten players. They are - world no.4 Alireza Firouzja, world no.6 Anish Giri, world no.7 Fabiano Caruana, world no.8 Wesley So, World Blitz 2021 winner Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, FIDE World Cup 2021 winner Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Romania no.2 Bogdan-Daniel Deac. Baku Open 2023 R2: Ilamparthi stuns Bharath Subramaniyam

World Under-14 Gold medalist, IM Ilamparthi A R scored a big victory over GM Bharath Subramaniyam H. He is now among the 14 players who are at 2/2. Six of them are Indians. The remaining five are - GM Leon Luke Mendonca, GM Harsha Bharathakoti, GM Aditya Mittal, GM Sandipan Chanda and IM Aditya S Samant. GM-elect IM Prraneeth Vuppala held Azerbaijan no.6 GM Nijat Abasov to a draw. He had a good opportunity to make things difficult. However, the teenager opted for a safer option. FM Mohamed Anees M held GM Rauf Mamedov (AZE) to a draw. IM Dushyant Sharma once again had an 88-move draw, this time against GM Vitaliy Bernadskiy (UKR). Tepe Sigeman & Co 2023 R2: Gukesh crushes Keymer, now World no.15

D Gukesh made a fantastic start at 28th TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2023. He destroyed the Germany no.1 Vincent Keymer when the latter overlooked a bishop sacrifice. It wrecked the kingside and Gukesh had no trouble seizing his advantage. This win made Gukesh's live rating at his career highest 2741 and now he is World no.15. Meanwhile, Arjun Erigaisi dropped the ball on his position when he himself stopped the momentum by making a strange retreat. Later, a desperate rook sacrifice did not work and the Sweden no.1 Nils Grandelius had no trouble wrapping things up. Raahul V S wins 1st Queenstar Blitz Rating Open 2023

Both IM Raahul V S and FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan scored 8.5/9 at 1st Queenstar Blitz Rating Open 2023. Their penultimate round encounter against each other ended in a draw. The first three tie-break scores were exactly the same. Raahul won the tournament based on their fourth tie-break score, Liyanage was placed second. Sri Lanka no.1 IM L M S T De Silva edged past Shrayan Majumder on tie-breaks to secure third place. They both scored 8/9 each. The top three prizes were LKR 50000, 25000 and 15000 along with a trophy and medal each respectively. Raahul won ₹12770 approximately. This is Raahul's first tournament victory since December 2021 when he won Gold at Asian Junior Open in Sri Lanka.

Baku Open 2023 R1: Dushyant Sharma holds Rauf Mamedov to a draw

IM Dushyant Sharma held Azerbaijan no.5, GM Rauf Mamedov to a draw in the first round of Baku Open 2023. Dushyant played solid throughout the game and ensured no mistakes were made. The majority of the game was a rook endgame which lasted for 56 moves out of 88 in total. FM Mohamed Anees M missed a great opportunity to win against GM Vitaliy Bernadskiy (UKR). The former initially found the correct way to liquidate into a favorable knight vs bishop endgame. However, he misplayed and let his opportunity slip. FM Nikhil Dixit scored a beautiful win against IM Manish Anto Cristiano F when the latter blundered immediately after declining a guaranteed draw by perpetual check. Tepe Sigeman & Co 2023 R1: Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh make a winning start

Arjun Erigaisi got the better of the legendary Boris Gelfand in the first round of 28th TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2023. The FIDE World Cup 2009 winner and former World Championship Challenger blundered a piece in the middlegame. Gelfand opted for the Open Catalan, something Arjun is quite well-prepared. D Gukesh scored his first win against 2021 edition winner, Jorden van Foreest. The Netherlands no.2 erred in the queen and minor piece endgame, from which there was no possibility of saving the game. Arjun and Gukesh scored the only wins of the round. It will be Arjun vs Grandelius and Gukesh vs Keymer in Round 2 which starts today at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST. Chakravarthi Reddy dominates 5th Holi Cup Rating Open 2023

IM Chakravarthi Reddy M scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 5th Holi Cup Rating Open 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Six players - IM Rajesh Vav, FM FT Matta Vinaykumar, Kumar Gaurav, Narayan Iyengar, Harshvardhan Swami and Sham R scored 7.5/9. They were placed second to seventh according to tie-breaks. Third seeded Chakravarthi drew with Rajesh and defeated Matta en route his championship. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1501000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each respectively. This was Chakravarthi's third consecutive podium finish in the month of April. A prelude on LBHM 30 lacs prize money chess festival

The month of May is going to witness a lot of rating chess tournaments. Among them, the fourth edition of Late Bharatbai Halkude Memorial Chess Festival is offering a combined prize fund of over 30 lacs across three tournaments - Classical, Below 1600 and Rapid. The festival will take place from 13th to 21st May in Pune. There are a dozen prizes which are over ₹100000 each combining Open and Below 1600 event. So far two GMs and seven IMs have already registered in the Classical and Rapid events. So hurry up and register now if you haven't yet. The Limhamn Chess Club is organizing the 28th edition of one of the most prestigious events of the world, TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2023. This year also the organizers have put together a great mix legendary players along with the present generation of world-class talents. This year two Indians - D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi will battle against a very exciting line up of - Vincent Keymer (GER), Jorden van Foreest (NED), Peter Svidler, Boris Gelfand (ISR), Nils Grandelius (SWE) and Abhimanyu Mishra (USA). The only other time two Indians took part in this tournament was in 2019. K Sasikiran and Vidit Gujrathi are the only two Indians to have ever won this event. Diya Chowdhury wins Smart Girls Rating Open 2023 Raigarh

Top seed of the tournament, Diya Chowdhury scored 8/9 to win Smart Girls Rating Open 2023 Raigarh. Ishika Madke and Pari Tiwari scored 7.5/9 each to secure second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Diya defeated four out of the top six finishers. She suffered her only loss against the eventual second runner-up finisher, Pari. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹50000. The top three prizes were ₹11000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each respectively. Gaurang Bagwe clinches 1st MLA Chasak Rapid Rating Open 2023 convincingly

14-year-old CM Gaurang Bagwe scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st MLA Chasak Rapid Rating Open 2023. The Commonwealth 2022 U14 Gold and U20 Bronze medalist, finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players - GM Laxman R R, Mandar Pradip Lad, Anirudhha Potawad, Pushkar Dere and Arnav Kherdekar scored 8/9 each. Laxman and Mandar were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Gaurang drew with Laxman in the final round to become champion. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were Honda Activa, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each respectively. Chess in Space during the World Championship 2023 Match

During the FIDE World Chess Championship, a lot of side events take place parallelly all over the world. The reason is to capitalize interest increased in chess and draw attention to other players and events all over the world. A unique match was taking place for days between ISS (International Space Station) and Mission Control. The first game wrapped up on Tuesday 16th April 2023. NASA shared the info and the game yesterday on their reddit account and twitter. They have also mentioned that second game is underway. So how does the game take place and what happened in the game?
