The second last Regular event before the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals, Chessable Masters starts on Saturday 31sth July. It will feature three Indian players - Pentala Harikrishna, Koneru Humpy and Baskaran Adhiban. For the first time, a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event will feature two women - Wenjun Ju and Koneru Humpy. The tournament will witness only five players from the previous event. FIDE World Cup 2021 QF TB: Resilient Karjakin knocks out Shankland

Shankland and Karjakin had an absolute slobber knocker match in the Quarterfinals of the FIDE World Cup. All six games ended decisively and for the second time in their match, Karjakin showed resiliency as he won a game on demand once again to keep himself in the event and eventually managed to knockout his opponent. It will be an All-Russian battle in the Semifinals between Karjakin and Fedoseev which means one Russian is guaranteed to be in the Finals of FIDE World Cup. The first ever FIDE Women's World Cup is guaranteed to have a Russian winner as Goryachkina and Kosteniuk will battle each other in the Finals. Today is a rest day. Gata Kamsky maintained his sole lead 19.5 points at the conclusion of fourth round at 54th Biel International Chess Festival 2021 GMT. Nihal overcame adversity against Studer to salvage a draw. He is at fourth place 14.5 points. In the MTO section, Ganguly drew with Praggnanandhaa, although the former had a decent chance. Karthikeyan Murali beat the top seed, Salem Saleh, to take the sole lead 4.5/5. Sethuraman, Ganguly, Praggnanandhaa along with Eljanov and Banusz are in pursuit 4.0/5. Today is a rest day for MTO. Their Round 6 will be played tomorrow. GMT will have Blitz today and a rest day tomorrow. The standings will change a lot and Nihal would like to jump to the top of the points table. Raahul V S clinches AICF National Junior Open Online 2021

Untitled Raahul V S of Tamil Nadu scored 9.5/11 to win AICF National Junior Open Online championship 2021. He won ₹25000 cash prize. IM Bharath Subramaniyam H secured sole second position 9.0/11, earned ₹18000. Six players scored 8.5/11. They had to play the Playoffs. According to that, GM Iniyan P was placed third and he got ₹15000. Total prize fund for the event was ₹125000 for the top 20 places. Tamil Nadu claimed six out of top ten places, West Bengal was the next state which won second-highest number of places among the prize winners. Vidit Gujrathi's monumental run at the FIDE World Cup 2021 came to an end, but he is not going home empty-handed. He earned himself a place in the FIDE Grand Prix 2022, he won US$ 35000 (20% is retained by FIDE), became India no.2 and World no.21. Carlsen will face the undefeated Duda in the Semifinals. It will be an interesting battle because Duda ended the world champion's 125-game unbeaten streak last year. Karjakin bounced back against Shankland to force tie-breaks, which means Fedoseev will get to know his Semifinal opponent today. The world champion thought that his opponent will try to make a solid draw and give himself a rest day since he has played all tie-breaks. FIDE World Cup 2021 R5.2: Vidit and Shankland through to the Quarterfinals

Vidit completely outplayed Durarbayli in the second game of the fifth round of FIDE World Cup 2021. This win made sure he became the second Indian since Anand to have advanced to a Quarter-Final of a FIDE World Cup. Shankland defeated Svidler to secure his place in the final eight. Thus, both Vidit and Shankland qualified to the FIDE Grand Prix 2022. If they reach the Finals, they will qualify to the next Candidates. Among the women, Goryachkina, Kosteniuk and Zhongyi advanced to the Semi-Finals. The Master Tournament (MTO) of 54th Biel International Chess Festival 2021 started on Monday 26th July. A total of 73 players are taking part in the Master Tournament (MTO). The biggest contingent in this event is India, which consists of 17 players, followed by Switzerland having eleven players. 27 GMs, 13 IMs, 4 WGMs and 4 WIMs are taking part from 18 countries across the world. All seeded Indian players started the event with a victory. Total prize fund for the MTO is 39000 CHF (approx. Rs 31.6 lacs) with the first prize being 6000 CHF (approx. Rs.4.87 lacs).
