Balkishan wins 2nd Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 2200 Rating Tournament 2025

Balkishan A, Advik Amit Agrawal, Kartavya Anadkat and Nameet Chavan scored 7.5/9 each at 2nd Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 2200 Rating Tournament 2025. Balkishan won the tournament due to better tie-break scores. The remaining three were placed second to fourth respectively. Only Kartavya remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹110000, ₹95000 and ₹85000 along with a trophy each. The four-day nine round Below 2200 rating tournament was  organized by Maharashtra Chess Association from 20th to 23rd April 2025 at Amanora Mall in Pune, Maharashtra. Arpan Das clear first at Sivasagar Rating Open 2025

Arpan Das scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to win Sivasagar Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Soram Rahul Singh and FM Kumar Gaurav scored 8/10 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. The six-day ten round Rating Open tournament was organized by Sivasagar Chess Academy at Milan Mondir in Sivasagar, Assam from 5th to 10th April 2025. This is Arpan's third overall, second consecutive rating tournament triumph of the year in Assam.

Vladimir Fedoseev dominates Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2025, Praggnanandhaa third

Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) scored 26.5/36 to win Grand Chess Tour Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2025 with three rounds to spare. He remained undefeated in Rapid, posted one of the highest scores ever in GCT and suffered only one loss against Jan-Krzysztof Duda (POL) in Blitz Round 12. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) made a strong comeback on the final day by scoring 7/9, total 21.5/36 to secure second place. R Praggnanandhaa scored 5/9 on the second day of Blitz to finish third with a total score of 20.5/36. The top three prizes were US$ 40000, 30000 and 25000. KCA 1st GM R1: Yeshas stuns Semetei Tologon Tegin

12-year-old Yeshas H scored the first upset win over IM Semetei Tologon Tegin (KGZ) in the first round of KCA's God's Own Country 1st GM 2025. The boy managed to promote a second queen and his IM opponent had to resign as the checkmate became inevitable. Adhrit Das Purkayastha, Jude Dorison Gnanaseelan (SRI) and Sinthia Sarkar held GM Alexei Fedorov, GM P Karthikeyan and GM Laxman R R to a draw each respectively. Aaryan Varshney dominates 1st Maharathi Rapid Rating Open 2025

IM Aaryan Varshney scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Maharathi Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Aaditya Dhingra and FM Garv Gaur scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Aaryan defeated Aaditya in the penultimate round. The total prize fund was ₹721111. The top three prizes were ₹51111, ₹41000 and ₹31000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Maharathi Chess Academy at S G Public Senior Secondary School in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on 12th and 13th April 2025. Superbet Blitz 2025: Fedoseev regains sole lead, Praggnanandhaa climbs to the second place

Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) maintained his pole position by scoring an unbeaten 8/9 at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Blitz 2025. The only two draws were against R Praggnanandhaa and Alireza Firouzja (FRA). Despite starting with two losses, Praggnanandhaa bounced back strong by scoring 5.5 points in the next seven games. He moved up to the second spot with 15.5/27, 3.5 points behind Fedoseev. Aravindh Chithambaram struggled on the first day of Blitz event by scoring only 3.5 points including a hat-trick of losses. Aravindh Chithambaram started the day with a scintillating win over Jan-Krzysztof Duda (POL) at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Rapid 2025. He took the game to Duda and the FIDE World Cup 2021 winner did not have a good reply to it. He suffered a loss against the World Blitz 2021 winner, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA. However, he bounced back in the final round with a win over Alireza Firouzja (FRA) who ran out of time. Aravindh joined Firouzja and Vladimir Fedoesev (SLO) at the top of the Rapid standings 11/18 each. P Gopinath decimates Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2025 in Madhya Pradesh

The top seed of the tournament, P Gopinath scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2025. He finished a full point ahead of others. Four players - Atharv Palta, C Karuppasamy, Mayank Sonare and Binish Kumar Sharma scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹51000. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by District Chess Association Shahdol at Shreyash Resort in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh from 2nd to 6th April 2025. Second edition of The Big Chess Inter-School Tournament begins from 16th May

The Big Chess Inter-School Tournament returns for its second edition from 16th to 18th May 2025 at Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla. Any school-going student (up to 10th standard) is eligible to participate in this event. The entry fee for this event is Rs. 100. This is an 8-round Swiss tournament with a time control of 30 minutes + 30-second increment per move. There will be six age categories with specific eligibility criteria. The top 15 in each category will get exciting prizes. The top two finishers in each category will have the chance to play in a simulation against GM Harshit Raja. The Sardinia World Chess Festival 2025 kicked off yesterday, 27th April at the ITI Marina Orosei Resort in Sardinia, Italy. A total of 219 players are taking part across 3 different categories in Italy's strongest chess tournament! After the first two rounds, we have two of three Indian Grandmasters making a perfect start - Leon Mendonca and Harshit Raja. Alireza Firouzja (FRA) joined Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) in the lead 8/12 at Grand Chess Tour 2025 Superbet Rapid. Firouzja started the day with a win over R Praggnanandhaa when the latter refused to draw by repetition and paid a heavy price for it. Praggnanandhaa drew with Levon Aronian (USA) before finishing the day with another loss, against Veselin Topalov (BUL). Aravindh Chithambaram climbed up to the third spot 7/12. He outplayed former World Champion, Topalov. Then he drew with Fedoseev and David Gavrilescu (ROU) respectively. Praggnanandhaa has slipped to seventh place with a score of 5/12. Ayush Sharma topples Abhijeet Gupta, on the verge of winning 3rd Maharashtra GM

IM Ayush Sharma defeated the top seed, 'Mr. Commonwealth' GM Abhijeet Gupta in Round 9 of 3rd Maharashtra GM 2025. Abhijeet's knight sacrifice needed precision to draw the game. However, he went for more and ended up losing the game. GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) and GM Boris Savchenko also won their respective games against IM Nitish Belurkar and GM Deep Sengupta respectively. While Deep blundered in the endgame, Nitish's positional mistake was so minute that it cannot even be called a mistake. Ayush will face GM Manuel Petrosyan (ARM) in the last round. Pantsulaia and Savchenko will clash on the top board. Ayush not only has the opportunity to win the tournament but also score his final GM-norm. A win should make him the champion and bring close to the GM title. However, tie-breaks might play the spoilsport if Pantsulaia or Savchenko end up having a decisive outcome. Azerbaijan Chess Federation announces 'Chess Tour Azerbaijan' comprising eight open tournaments in seven different cities. The first one Baku Open starts tomorrow in Baku, Azerbaijan. There are seven more tournaments slated to take place from June to November 2025. Each tournament offers a total prize fund of AZN 22500 (~US$ 13235) or more. First prize is ~US$ 3000 in every Open. Conditions are offered for GMs. Check each tournament details to find out the special conditions. Five out of the eight tournament details are available.
