Sayantan Das clear first at CTCA International Open 2025

GM Sayantan Das scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 1st CTCA International Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. FM Sander Severino (PHI) scored sole 7/9 to secure second place. Five players - GM Gergely Aczel (HUN), GM Antonio Rogelio Jr. (PHI), Jasper Rom (PHI), Darry Bernardo (PHI) and Aitor Garcia-Ruiz Fuentes (ESP) scored 6.5/9 each. They shared third place. Sayantan drew against both runners-up. Top three prizes were NT $50000, $30000 and $15000 along with a trophy each. GM Sayantan Das was the sole leader 7/8, heading into the last round. FM Sander Severino (PHI) was the sole pursuer, 6.5/8. Sayantan drew against GM Gergely Aczel (HUN) to become the champion, Gergely was placed third. Sander drew against GM Antonio Rogelio Jr. (PHI) to finish second. Sayantan is the first Indian to win a rating open tournament in Taiwan.

A total of 78 players including 3 GMs, 2 IMs, a WGM and 2 WIMs took part from 11 countries across the world in the Open event. The five-day nine round Rating Open was organized by Chinese Taipei Chess Association at Monarch Skyline Hotel in Taiwan from 17th to 21st July 2025. The time control was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
