The day of making simple Berlin draws or playing fun openings are gone because it's the Semi-Finals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour New in Chess Classic which means the gloves are off and it's time for bare knuckle brawl. That's exactly what happened as everyone lost at least one game in the Semi-Finals including Carlsen and Nakamura who were undefeated till Quarter-Finals. While Carlsen and Aronian traded blows to tie the first set 2-2, it seems like Nakamura got the better of Mamedyarov as he won the first set by 3-1. Meltwater Champions Chess Tour New in Chess Quarter-Finals witnessed the first set winner to have a smooth sailing towards the Semi-Finals. Carlsen will look for his first tournament triumph of the year as he faces Aronian in the Semi-Finals. Meanwhile Nakamura escaped the jaws of defeat twice against Liem to secure his spot in the Semi-Finals against Mamedyarov who has been completely dominant against Firouzja. B Giribabu wins Nellore District Senior Championship 2021

Top seed Bodugu Giribabu dominated the field as he scored 5.0/5 to win Nellore District Senior Chess Championship for the first time in his career. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. 8-year-old Mithilesh P was definitely the star performer of the event as he scored 4.5/5 and remained undefeated to secure the second position. New in Chess Classic QF Day 1: Advantage Aronian, Mamedyarov and Nakamura

The first set of Quarter-Finals in Meltwater Champions Chess Tour New in Chess saw a battle of equals as Carlsen-Radjabov encounter did not yield a single decisive result. Aronian, Mamedyarov and Nakamura won the first set. Firouzja and Liem are yet to score in the Knockout stage. Firouzja did a couple of tactical errors in the final moments of the game, so he will need to come back stronger. Liem and So will also need to win their second set to keep Semi-Final hopes alive for them. Quarter-Final games resumes tonight from 10:30 p.m. IST. FIDE Candidates 2020 R14: Redemption, Hat-trick and Retirement

The longest chess tournament in history - FIDE Candidates 2020 is finally over. The winner of the event and new Challenger for the World Championship lost his final round game against Ding Liren who finished the tournament with a hat-trick of wins. Vachier-Lagrave beat Hao Wang to finish sole second with 8.0/14. Anish Giri suffered a loss against Kirilll Alekseenko and he was placed third 7.5/14. Caruana made a draw with Grischuk, they finished with a score of 7.5/14 and 7.0/14 respectively. Meltwater Champions Chess Tour New in Chess Classic Day 3 witnessed Praggnanandhaa once again have another fantastic day. He started with a loss but then he beat Christiansen and drew with Carlsen, Nakamura and Firouzja. The world champion praised Pragg for his play. He might not have advanced to the next stage but he certainly showed that he can hold his own with the top players of the world. Vidit also finished with the same score as Pragg 7.0/15 and got eliminated from the event. Carlsen-Radjabov, Aronian-So, Mamedyarov-Firouzja and Liem-Nakamura are set to clash in the Quarter-Finals which starts tonight from 10:30 p.m. IST. Ian Nepomniachtchi wins FIDE Candidates 2020 with a round to spare

Reigning and two-time Russian Superfinal champion, Ian Nepomniachtchi sets up a clash for the World Championship against Magnus Carlsen later this year as he won the FIDE Candidates 2020 with a round to spare. Nepomniachtchi made a draw with Vachier-Lagrave once he realized that Giri has no chance to beat Grischuk. Thus Nepomniachtchi took a full point lead 8.5/13 heading into the final round, making it immaterial for Giri's victory in the last round as the Russian has already beaten the Dutch no.1 in the first round of the tournament, last year. Meltwater Champions Chess Tour New in Chess Classic Day 2 witnessed the World Champion Carlsen climb to the top of the table. Currently he solely leads the Prelims with 7.0/10. Firouzja and Nakamura share the second spot with 6.5/10 each respectively. Both Vidit and Praggnanandhaa had a difficult day as Vidit missed two winning opportunities and Pragg lost three games. Vidit and Pragg must finish in top eight of the Prelims stage to advance to the Quarter-Finals. A win against Radjabov is the highlight of the day for Pragg. Meltwater Champions Chess Tour New in Chess Classic Day 1 undoubtedly goes to Praggnanandhaa. He made most of the opportunity and scored an impressive 3.0/5. He beat Duda and Karjakin convincingly, made solid draws with Jones and Mamedyarov. Vidit also had a fantastic day as held the world champion Carlsen to a brilliantly fought draw in a near flawless game. Radjabov is the sole leader at the end of Day 1 with 4.0/5 followed by Firouzja and Carlsen at 3.5/5. It would be an understatement to say Anish Giri is absolutely impressive in the second half of FIDE Candidates 2020. He continued his momentum and scored his third victory in the last five games. Only Nepomniachtchi has scored two wins since the tournament resumed. The reigning Russia champion Nepomniachtchi maintained his sole lead with a victory over Hao Wang and moves to 8.0/12. Giri is at 7.5/12. Giri must win the last two games and hope Nepomniachtchi scores less than 1.5/2 to win the event as the latter has the better tie-breaks over the Dutch no.1. Candidates 2020-21 R11: Giri scores a thumping win over Ding Liren

Anish Giri continues his impressive run at the second half of FIDE Candidates 2020 with a brilliant win over Ding Liren in Round 11. He now moves to a sole second spot with 6.5/11 and breathes down the neck of the tournament leader Nepomniachtchi 7.0/11 who made a draw with Caruana. The former World Championship challenger is now at sole third spot with 6.0/11. Grischuk scored the only other victory of the round against Vachier-Lagrave. Both are now at 5.5/11.
