Kvika Reykjavik Open R1: First round jitters

One of the strongest Open tournament, Reykjavik Open is back for the first time since 2019. Much like many other events, Covid-19 pandemic caused the event to go on a hiatus for the past two years. Five out of the top ten seeds are Indian players. Accelerated pairings ensured a tough challenge for the top seeds. Gukesh, Raunak had to work really hard to earn their first point. Adhiban, Praggnanandhaa and Abhijeet Gupta scored relatively easier victories. IM Tania Sachdev and IM Vardaan Nagpal were held to draws by Miguel Ruiz Buendia (ESP) and Thomas Held (SUI) respectively. Round 2 starts today at 9 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. IST). 15th AICFB National R3-4: Five players share the lead 3.5/4

Kishan Gangolli, Subhendu Kumar Patra, Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Ashvin K Makwana and Milind Samant are the five players in the lead. They all drew their respective games in the fourth round of SAVA Herbals 15th AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged players. Marimuthu K had a good opportunity to win against Aryan Joshi in the third game. Despite winning for the better part of the game, he was unable to convert his advantage into a full point. Neelotpal or Ortik - Who will win 3rd Gujarat GM Open?

IM Srihari L R held GM Neelotpal Das to a solid draw in the penultimate round of 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022. IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB) won against GM Stany G A to join the lead with Neelotpal 8.0/9. Ortik and Neelotpal will face each other in the final round. The winner will become a clear champion. While a draw would allow Abdisalimov and Srihari to catch up with them and maybe surpass on tie-breaks too. Two in-form teenagers IM Anuj Shrivatri and IM Srihari will clash on the second board. Garv Gaur wins Holi Cup Lakecity Rapid Rating Open 2022

14-year-old CM Garv Gaur scored an unbeaten 8.0/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition to win Holi Cup International Lakecity Rapid Rating Open 2022. His sole draw was against Vrashank Chouhan in the fourth round. Three players scored 7.5/9 - Kumar Gaurav, Prakash Ram and Harish Sharma. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Garv won ₹21000 cash, Runner-up Kumar earned ₹15000, and Prakash received ₹11000 cash as their respective prize. All three of them received a trophy each. 15th AICFB National R1-2: 1446-rated Somender stuns top seed Darpan Inani

19-year-old Somender B L (DEL) defeated the top seed of the tournament, Darpan Inani (GUJ) in Round 2 of SAVA Herbals 15th AICFB National Chess Championship for Visually Challenged 2022-23. Another Delhite, Satya Praksah Shrivastava won against sixth seeded veteran, Krishna Udupa (KAR). Six-time consecutive AICFB National champion, Kishan Gangolli, Aryan Joshi, Subhendu Kumar Patra, Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Ashvin K Makwana and K Marimuthu are among the dozen players who made an unbeaten start 2.0/2. 55 selected players are taking part to become 'National Blind Chess Champion 2022'. GM Neelotpal Das beat Paraguay no.1 GM Neuris Delgado Ramirez to grab sole lead at the conclusion of Round 8 at 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022. He is now a half point ahead of the field 7.5/8. IM Srihari L R drew his game with IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB). Both of them along with GM Stany G A and IM Abdisalimov Abdimalik (UZB) are at 7.0/8 each. GM Neelotpal Das showed his endgame understanding as he beat GM Hesham Abdelrahman (EGY) to maintain his lead. IM Nitin S was unable to put up a fight against the other tournament leader, IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB). IM Srihari L R continues his good form as he averted disaster to beat GM Adham Fawzy (EGY) and remain one of the three leaders 6.5/7. FM Suyog Wagh probably missed the biggest chance of the round against GM Stany G A. Srihari will face Ortik and Neelotpal will be up against Paraguay no.1 GM Neuris Delgado Ramirez in a crucial round which will certainly have serious implications for the championship. Incredible Arjun Erigaisi clinches MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 1

Arjun Erigaisi won his fourth consecutive individual tournament MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 1, fifth overall triumph of the year 2022. He qualified to the Tour finals and will also play at a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour stage. Arjun's ascension towards his golden stage started last summer at Goldmoney Asian Rapid. The runner-up Raunak Sadhwani was the only one who had the opportunity to break Arjun's streak. Both Arjun and Raunak drew their respective games in the last round and they secured the top two places. Gukesh and Surya scored identical points. They were placed third and fourth. 3rd Gujarat GM Open R5-6: 12-year-old Daakshin Arun outplays GM Sandipan Chanda

12-year-old CM Daakshin Arun played beautiful positional chess to beat the strong GM Sandipan Chanda in Round 6 of 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022. GM Neelotpal Das, IM Nitin S, IM Srihari L R, IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB) and GM Hesham Abdelrahman (EGY) are the five leaders at 5.5/6. Neelotpal beat GM Azer Mirzoev (AZE) and Nitin won against Anilkumar in the fifth round. They drew their game against each other in the sixth round. IM Srihari L R beat the reigning National Junior champion, IM Neelash Saha in Round 6 to rejoin the lead. WIM Arpita Mukherjee is currently the highest scorer among female participants. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 1 R9-12: Arjun Erigaisi makes a fascinating comeback

Arjun Erigaisi made a fantastic comeback to the top of the points table 25.0/36 after finishing the first day at eighth place. He scored three wins and a draw on the penultimate day. The reigning National Senior champion defeated Abhijeet, Iniyan and Abhimanyu, drew with Lalit. Raunak Sadhwani is at a sole second place 22.0/36. He took a no-draw approach on the third day of MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 1. He defeated Adhiban, Surya and Leon. His only loss of the day was against Harika. 3rd Gujarat GM Open R4: 58-year-old Anilkumar calls his opponent's bluff

IM Nitin S, GM Neelotpal Das, Anilkumar OT and IM Srihari L R are the four Indians among eight leaders 4.0/4 at 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022. The veteran from Kerala called his opponent IM Himal Gusain's bluff early in the opening and he could not recover for the rest of the game. Anilkumar will face Nitin in the fifth round. Neelotpal and Srihari scored relatively easier wins compared to Nitin. Kaustuv Kundu was completely winning for the better part of the game against Adham Fawzy. FIDE signs contract with AICF for the 2022 Chess Olympiad

A FIDE delegation headed by its President Arkady Dvorkovich has paid a three-day visit to India. The purpose of the trip was to inspect the proposed venue for the 44th Chess Olympiad, discuss the road map for the event, and sign the contract with the All India Chess Federation (AICF). The FIDE President also held a round of meetings with all the relevant authorities whose support has made this event possible. Check out the press release of the contract signing of AICF with FIDE to host the biggest sports event ever held in India. FIDE Olympiad will take place from 28th July to 9th August 2022. FIDE Congress 2022 will also take place on the same dates.

MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 1 R5-8: Abhimanyu Puranik joins Leon Mendonca in the lead

Abhimanyu Puranik and Leon Luke Mendonca finished the second day as the coleaders. They both are now at 17.0/24 each at MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 1. The Pune lad Abhimanyu wrecked through the competition on the second day. He beat Gukesh, Raunak, Abhijeet and Iniyan. Leon had a relatively slow start as he drew with Harika and lost to Surya, before finishing the day at the top with victories against Sethuraman and Narayanan. Arjun Erigaisi scored a hat-trick and split the point with Raunak to move to the third spot 15.0/24. Surya is at 14.0/24, followed by Gukesh and Raunak at 13.0/24 each. Revered IM Anup Deshmukh scored a beautiful win against GM Mikel Huerga Leache (ESP). It was a model game on how to convert an advantage into a victory. GM Boris Savchenko, GM Stany G A and GM Harsha Bharathakoti were held to a draw each by WIM Arpita Mukherjee, FM Aradhya Garg and FM L M S T De Silva (SRI). FM Kashish Manoj Jain missed plenty of chances to beat GM Cristhian Camilo Rios (COL).
