I want to be a GM as soon as possible: Leon Luke Mendonca
02/07/2019 - While chess in Goa has picked up a few notches in recent years, it has much scope for improvement. In Category A, Goa’s lone Grandmaster Anurag Mhamal (2497) and IM Leon Mendonca (2405), were the best performers with 6.5 points in the final count. Mhamal finished on 35th position with 6.5 points after his last round win against the very promising Ritviz Parab (2357) when the latter resigned in a lost rook endgame. On the other hand, Goa's IM Leon Mendonca secured a memorable draw in his final round against India's 61st GM P Iniyan (2525) also to tally 6.5 points and end respectably on 42nd in the standings.
