Mayank Chakraborty of Assam scored 9.5/11 and finished a half point ahead of the runner-ups to clinch the championship. Both Ilamparthi A R of Tamil Nadu and Kshatriya Nitin Vekhande of Maharashtra scored 9.0/11 each and they were placed second and third respectively. Top seed Anupam M Sreekumar of Kerala dominated the girls section as she scored a mammoth 10.5/11 and finished two full points ahead of the competition. Mrittika Mallick of West Bengal, Arshiya Das of Tripura and Palak Mohapatra of Odisha, all three of them of scored 8.5/11 each. Magnus Carlsen dominates day one of Tata Steel Chess India 2019 Rapid

The strongest ever tournament on Indian, in fact Asian soil, kicked off on the 22nd of November 2019. Three rounds of rapid chess were played on day one. Six years ago, on this very day Magnus Carlsen had become the World Champion by beating Anand in Chennai. Carlsen continued from where he left and now leads the tournament with 5.0/6. He is followed by Nakamura on 4.0/6. We bring to you the game analysis of all six decisive games of day one and also pictorial impressions and videos from the venue. Not to be missed is Anand's win against Wesley So, Vidit's Houdini like escape against Ding Liren and Nakamura's positional squeeze against Giri.

Somak Palit wins Tata Steel Chess Festival 2019 Open Blitz

IM Somak Palit scored 6.5/7 to win Tata Steel Chess Festival All Bengal Open Blitz 2019. He received a huge beautiful trophy and ₹10000 cash as a prize for his efforts. In the penultimate round, Somak had a narrow escape against Debankan Dhara which the eventual champion survived using stalemate trick. IM Mitrabha Guha also finished at 6.5/7 but due to a lower tie-break score, he had to settle for second place. IM Sayantan Das scored 6.0/7 and he was placed third according to his tie-break score. Total 118 players including 7 IMs participated from all across the state of West Bengal, in this seven-round Blitz tournament with a time control of 3 mins + 2 seconds each. Magnus Carlsen takes on the Vishy Anand best games quiz

Chess is spread all over the city of Kolkata! Some players were at the Gariahat Chess Club, some at Alekhine Chess Club, some at DDDBCA, some at Tata Steel office! The opening ceremony took place in Taj Bengal and the photoshoot was done at the National Library! India's former top cricketer Sourav Ganguly was a part of the opening ceremony! Amidst all of this, we managed to do a small quiz with the World Champion Magnus Carlsen, Anish Giri, Vidit Gujrathi and Erwin l'Ami. The quiz dealt with the best games of Anand's chess career (because the players were in India and Vishy will 50 in a few days!) and the players had to guess Anand's best move and also the opponent in the game. Magnus Carlsen impressed one and all with his memory power! First Official Fischer Random World Champion Wesley So visited DDDBCA for a Q&A session and distribute a few prizes for Intra Academy tournament. Ding Liren and Hikaru Nakamura visited the Gariahat Chess Club to play a little bit of street chess. It is the only open air club in the world which is on 24x7, 365 days a year and it is open-for-all. 16-year-old IM Aronyak Ghosh held World #3 Ding Liren to a draw in a friendly blitz game. In a battle of Arjuna Awardees, Tania Sachdev beat Dibyendu Barua, in a warm-up friendly game for the audience. Mrudul Dehankar wins AICF Gujarat WGM

Mrudul Dehankar, the 15-year-old talent from Nagpur, played a sparkling game in the last round of AICF International Women Grandmaster Round Robin Tournament to wrest the lead from Aakanksha Hagawane and finish a full point ahead of the rest of the field with 8.0/11 points. After eleven rounds three players, namely Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, Olga Babiy, and Aakanksha scored 7.0/11 each and were placed second, third, and fourth respectively on the basis of tie-breaks. Two engineers raise Rs.4 crores in a month with unique chess technology!

Two Indian engineers studying at the Somaiya college in Mumbai decided to create a chess board which could make moves on its own. This was back in 2016. Three years have passed and their company "Square Off" has had an amazing journey. They sold many chess boards of the Kingdom and Grand Kingdom set. The company got a funding of 1.1 million US dollars towards the end of 2018. Now they have come up with two new products - Square Off Neo and Square Off Swap. Daakshin and Anupam take sole lead at National under-11

Daakshin Arun of Tamil Nadu and Anupam M Sreekumar of Kerala emerged as the sole leader in the Open and Girls section respectively at the conclusion of round 6 of National under-11. Daakshin defeated the other leader of the round Rohith S, while Anupam defeated former National under-9 girls champion Sneha Halder. Both Daakshin and Anupam scored their victory comfortably and they are well on their way to the championship. Total 434 players including 265 in Open and 169 in Girls are taking part from over 25 different states across the country in the nation's capital Delhi. Things are changing in Karnataka chess, but the biggest strength of the state lies in its youngsters. The number of students in schools who have taken up chess is huge! That's the reason why when the state schools championships was held in Bengaluru on the 16th of November 2019, a one-day event, you saw participation of as many as 534 youngsters! The National Schools held every year, boasts of around 1000 participants. Karnataka already has half the number in its own state! He is travelling from Montenegro where his team won the silver medal at the European Club Cup 2019 and will be flying to Kolkata on 20th of November for the Grand Chess Tour. In between he has 24 hours in Mumbai. He could have spent it taking some rest for the important event. But Vidit wants to do something interesting in Mumbai? But what exactly? World Rapid and Blitz 2019 to be held in Moscow from 25-30 December

The long awaited dates and venue of the World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2019 have been released. It will be held in Moscow from the 25th to 30th of December. The rapid portion will be held from the 26th to 28th of December and the Blitz will be on the 29th and 30th of December. The total prize fund of the event would be 1 million dollars! The detailed regulations will be published in a few days. For now, we have the press release by FIDE. 

Savitribai Phule Pune University is the West Zone University Champion

Top seed of the tournament Savitribai Phule Pune University scored 13.0/14, remained undefeated to win AIU Inter University West Zone Men's Tournament 2019. They finished a full point ahead of the runner-up Gujarat University who finished at 12.0/14. Deviahilya University, Indore edged ahead of University of Mumbai due to a better tie-break score and finished at the third position and the latter was placed fourth. Both teams finished at 11.0/14 each. All top four teams have advanced to the All India Inter University championship.
