Aravindh Chithambaram scores a hat-trick by clinching 1st Rejoice CTF Rapid Rating Open 2022

After successfully defending the National Rapid and Blitz title, Aravindh won his third consecutive tournament in as many days at 1st Rejoice CTF Rapid Rating Open on 1st May. Five players finished with the same score 8.0/9. They are - GM Aravindh Chithambaram, GM Karthikeyan P, GM Karthik Venkataraman, IM P Shyam Nikhil and FM Niranjan Navalgund. They were placed first to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. Top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹20000 and ₹13000 cash along with a trophy each respectively. A total of 403 players including 10 GMs and 11 IMs took part in this one-day rapid rating tournament held at Rejoice International School, Mumbai, Mahrashtra, organized by Chess Training Foundation. MPL 34th National U-14 R3-4: Sannidhi Bhat scores two big wins

24th seeded newly crowned Maharashtra State Under-14 Girls champion, Sannidhi Ramakrishna Bhat (1373) undoubtedly had a fantastic day in MPL 34th National Under-14 Girls Chess Championship 2022. The 12-year-old girl outplayed fourth seeded Anupam Sreekumar (KER, 1673). Then she defeated second seeded Sachi Jain (DEL, 1768) in the following round. She is now in the lead with the reigning National Under-14 Girls champion, Shubhi Gupta (UP, 1613). Top seed CM Om Manish Kadam (MAH, 2144), CM Daakshin Arun (TN, 2016), Koustuv Dash (ODI, 1910) and John Veny Akkarakaran (KER, 1855) are the four leaders at 4.0/4 in the Open section. Hans Niemann wins 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2022, Arjun Erigaisi second

Hans Niemann drew his last round game against the defending champion, Jorden van Foreest (NED) to win 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2022. The American finished a full point ahead of the field at 5.0/7. This is Hans' second consecutive tournament triumph in 21 days. Hans is now World no.68 with a live rating of 2673.8. Arjun Erigaisi, Nils Grandelius (SWE) and Michael Adams (ENG) scored 4.0/7 each. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. MPL 34th National U-14 R1-2: Khushi Kaushal stuns third seed Yashita Rout

56th seeded Khushi Kaushal (HAR, 1213) scored the biggest upset of Round 1 in MPL 34th National Under-14 Girls Chess Championship 2022. The Haryana girl defeated third seeded Yashita Rout (ODI, 1718). The higher rated Yashita allowed her opponent to have a deadly passed pawn in the endgame. Athira A J (KER, 1217) ensured her opponent Sachi Jain (DEL, 1768) earn her full point in an interesting queen and bishop ending. CM Om Manish Kadam (MAH) and Mrittika Mallick (WB) are the top seeds in Open and Girls section respectively. They won both of their games comfortably. Round 3 starts today at 9:30 a.m. IST. Gukesh scores a hat-trick by winning Chessable Sunway Formentera Open, now World no.66

GM D Gukesh won his third consecutive tournament in Spain. He scored an unbeaten 8.0/10 to win Chessable Sunway Formentera International Chess Festival. After missing several tournament triumphs on tie-breaks, Gukesh won three events in Spain, 48th La Roda Open, Menorca Open and now Formentera Open, a half point ahead of the field, removing the question of tie-breaks. The youngest GM of India, gained 15.6 Elo rating points, taking his live rating to 2674.6 and becoming World no.66. IM Soham Das scored an impressive 7.0/10 to finish fifth, the highest finisher who is not a GM. Hans Niemann on the verge of winning 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co 2022

David Navara won against Alexei Shirov in a sharp skirmish arising out of Berlin. The other victor of the penultimate round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament was UAE no.1, Salem Saleh. He defeated the defending champion Jorden van Foreest with his typical picturesque finish in the endgame. Arjun Erigaisi and Hans Niemann drew with England no.1 Michael Adams and Sweden no.1 Nils Grandelius respectively. Hans is a draw away from winning the tournament 4.5/6. Golden Knights Chess Academy A scores a hat-trick at 28th Tamil Nadu State Team Rating 2022

Second seed of the tournament, Golden Knights Chess Academy A scored 100% 14.0/14 to win 28th Tamil Nadu State Team FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2022. This is their third consecutive Tamil Nadu State Team triumph, after winning the previous two editions in 2018 and 2019. They finished two points ahead of the runner-up Velammal Nexus 12.0/14 who also remained undefeated. Ananthi Chess Academy B scored 11.0/14 to secure third place. The total prize fund for the tournament was ₹50000. Top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹8000 and ₹6000 cash along with a trophy each respectively. Arjun Erigaisi got a fantastic opportunity to beat Jorden van Foreest in the final moments of the endgame. The defending champion moved his knight at the wrong part of the board which allowed Arjun to bounce back but much to his chagrin, he was unable to spot it correctly. Hans Niemann continues his great form as he beat Alexei Shirov in the fifth round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament. Arjun Erigaisi met his match in the form USA's top junior Hans Niemann. The in-form India no.4 suffered his first loss in the third round of 27th Tepe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament 2022. An incorrect queen exchange destroyed Arjun's pawn structure and made the position even more difficult to play. Niemann being an enterprising player, had no trouble seizing his advantage and converting it into a full point. Both Arjun and Niemann are currently in the lead at 2.0/3 each. Thej Kumar wins SCMA All India Rapid Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament GM Thej Kumar M S, Nithin Babu and FM Sharan Rao scored 8.0/9 each. Thej won the SCMA All India Rapid Rating Open 2022 due to better tie-break score. He took a no-draw approach, scored eight wins and the sole loss was against the eventual runner-up Nithin Babu. Sharan was placed third according to tie-breaks. All three podium finishers suffered a loss each, yet none of them made a single draw. The total prize fund for the Rapid Rating was ₹200000 along with trophies in each event. Tepe Sigeman & Co 2022 R2: Arjun Erigaisi outplays Salem, now World no.51

Arjun Erigaisi ensured his opponent UAE no.1 does not get into his familiar territory, which is to play attacking chess. He beautifully maneuvered his pieces and did not let the sharp player express his creativity. Eventually, he had to sacrifice an exchange in order to create an escape for his trapped knight. Czech Republic no.1 David Navara made a beautiful queen sacrifice which was thwarted by the American prodigy, Hans Niemann. The game ended in a draw. Vaishali triumphs at 8th Fischer Memorial 2022, scores her second GM-norm

IM Vaishali R scored 7.0/9 to win 8th Fischer Memorial, Heraklion GM Round Robin Tournament. Both her and FM Yoav Milikow (ISR) scored the same points. However, Vaishali beat the teenager in the fifth round, which decided the tie-breaks. The most important part is Vaishali scored her second GM-norm and took her live rating to 2430.4. She is now final GM-norm and 69.6 Elo rating away from becoming India's third woman ever to become a GM after Humpy and Harika. Among the top Indian women, IM Padmini Rout and IM Tania Sachdev are the only two who have a GM-norm each.
