Neelash Saha wins Bijnor Open Vol.2 2024

IM Neelash Saha, Vignesh B, GM Laxman R R and Balkishan A scored 7.5/9 each at Bijnor Open UP Booster Series Vol.2 2024. Neelash won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Vignesh, Laxman and Balkishan were placed second, third and fourth according to tie-breaks. Only Neelash and Laxman remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹75000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day rating tournament was organized by and at Vivek College, Bijnor at Uttar Pradesh from 17th to 21st March 2024. Mary Ann on the verge of winning Velammal AICF WGM 2024

WGM Mary Ann Gomes drew both her eighth and nine round games to maintain her sole lead. She is still 1.5 points ahead 7.5/9, of her nearest competition at Velammal AICF WGM Round-Robin 2024. Mary drew against WIM Sakshi Chitlange and IM Elena Sedina (ITA) in the final double round of the tournament. She is now a win away from becoming the champion of the tournament, while a draw may also prove to be enough. WIM Mounika Akshaya scored a fine victory over WGM Uurtsaikh Uuriintuya (MGL). Velammal AICF WGM 2024 R7: Mary wins four in-a-row

WGM Mary Ann Gomes scored her fourth win in-a-row to increase her sole lead by a staggering two points at 6.5/7. She capitalized her opportunity when WIM M Mahalakshmi erred in the endgame. The seventh round of Velammal AICF WGM Round-Robin 2024 had five decisive games just like the first round. WGM Nino Maisuradze (FRA) won her first game of the event against WIM Sakshi Chitlange. Sarayu Velpula bounced back with a win by trapping her opponent, WIM Angela Franco Valencia's (COL) queen. WIM G K Monnisha and WGM Altan-Ulzii Enkhtuul (MGL) are the remaining two victors of the round. Today is the third and last double round of the tournament. Round 8 starts at 10 a.m. IST. FIDE launches its online shop to celebrate its 100 year anniversary

FIDE was established in 1924. We are now in 2024 and the organization has now existed for 100 years. In order to celebrate this occasion they have launched their online store. This has products ranging from clothing, accessories and collectibles. Before the World Rapid and Blitz began we had top players Fabiano Caruana and Vidit Gujrathi shoot as models with the FIDE merch. The shop is created to cater to a world wide audience. ChessBase India YouTube channels is one of the biggest chess channels out there. We have a subscriber base of close to 1.5 million people. In December 2020 we launched the memberships on our platform and pledged that all the amount that we collect via it will be used for Indian chess talents. We did this for close to 1.5 years and a lot of young talents benefitted out of it. And now we have an idea where we will use these funds to sponsor a good quality laptop for the young talents who are in need of it. Velammal AICF WGM 2024 R5-6: Mary sacs her queen to slay Sarayu

WGM Mary Ann Gomes defeated V Rindhiya and Sarayu Velpula to increase her sole lead at Velammal AICF WGM Round-Robin 2024. Mary showed her positional understanding beating Rindhiya in Round 5. In the sixth round, Mary made a nice queen sacrifice which did not give her an immediate upper hand. However, her position was relatively easier to play and eventually she went on to win against Sarayu. Mary is now at 5.5/6. IM Elena Sedina (ITA) and WIM Sakshi Chitlange are the only two on her trail at 4/6 each. Sakshi made two short draws against WIM Mounika Akshaya and Elena. Round 7 starts at 10 a.m. IST. 29-year-old quadriplegic, the first Neuralink user, plays chess online using BCI

29-year-old Noland Arbaugh became the first user of Neuralink. He mentioned in the livestream that about eight years ago, he had a freak diving accident. It dislocated his C4 and C5 which made him quadriplegic. He is paralyzed and has no sensation of movement below the shoulders. "I love playing chess and so this is one of the things that you all have enabled me to do. Something that I wasn't able to do much, the last few years." - Noland says while we see the cursor moving on the screen controlled by his brain which is named, brain computer interface. WGM Mary Ann Gomes defeated WGM Uurtsaikh Uuriintuya (MGL) to gain sole lead at Velammal AICF WGM Round-Robin 2024. Mary scored an emphatic victory to move ahead of the rest at 3.5/4. WIM Sakshi Chitlange won her game against WIM M Mahalakshmi when the latter made a one-move blunder. It could have been a different outcome had she not made the blunder as her opponent made an inaccuracy. V Rindhiya outplayed WGM Nino Maisuradze (FRA). WIM Mounika Akshaya registered her first victory of the event against WIM Monnisha G K. Srihari L becomes the first International Master from Pondicherry

19-year-old Srihari L became Pondicherry's first International Master on 11th February 2024. The teenager earned his maiden IM-norm at Chhattisgarh CM Trophy GM Masters 2022 in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. A little over 15 months later, he earned his second IM-norm at 51st Rilton Cup 2023-24 in Stockholm, Sweden. Almost five weeks later, he delivered a dominant performance at 17th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Round-Robin 2024. He scored his final IM-norm and reached an exact 2400. He also won the tournament and finished a staggering 2.5 points ahead of the rest. His journey towards the GM title continues.

Velammal AICF WGM 2024 R2-3: Mary and Sarayu are the early leaders

WGM Mary Ann Gomes and Sarayu Velpula have emerged early coleaders at Velammal AICF WGM Round-Robin 2024. Mary defeated WIM G K Monnisha in a wild game in the second round. Both of their kings were out in the open. Mary managed to defend her king and use her extra material to win the game. WIM Sakshi Chitlange could not capitalize on her decisive advantage against Sarayu. Instead, she made a one move blunder and Sarayu won the game. Di Li wins ChessOrg Schachfestival 2024 Bad Wörishofen, Bharath, Harshavardhan and Akash second

GM Di Li (CHN) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 39th ChessOrg Festival Bad Woerishofen Open A 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H, IM Harshavardhan G B and GM Akash G scored 7/9 each. They shared second place. The top three prizes were €2000, €1400 and €900 along with a trophy each respectively. Both Bharath and Harshavardhan drew against the eventual champion. Eleven players including six Indians scored 6/9. IM Ilamparthi A R and IM Muthaiah Al are the remaining two Indians to make a top ten finish.
