Kumar Gaurav clinches 1st Tinsukia Rating Open 2024

Top seed Kumar Gaurav scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Tinsukia Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Rupam Mukherjee and Bijit Chetia scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Kumar defeated the eventual second runner-up, Bijit in the fourth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Tinsukia Chess Academy at Tinsukia College Auditorium in Tinsukia, Assam from 21st to 26th July 2024. Top two seeds maintain their rank

Kumar Gaurav, Bijit Chetia and Rishideep Bordoloi were the three coleaders heading into the final round with a score 7/8 each. Rishideep lost to Kumar. Rintu Brahma drew with Bijit. Yuwan Das lost against Rupam Mukherjee. Thus, Kumar became champion, Rupam second and Bijit third.

A total of 180 players took part from various places across the country in this six-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Tinsukia Chess Academy at Tinsukia College Auditorium in Tinsukia, Assam from 21st to 26th July 2024. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
