Rosh Jain and Kushagra Mohan win 1st Shatranj Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2025

FM Rosh Jain, CM Aarit Kapil and Kathan Khurana scored 8/9 each at 1st Shatranj Rapid Rating Open 2025. Rosh won the tournament due to better tie-break score. The remaining two secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Only Rosh remained undefeated among them. IM Kushagra Mohan scored a perfect 9/9 to win the Blitz Rating Open. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. IM Ravi Teja S scored sole 8.5/9 to finish second. Arnav Agrawal, Daksh Goyal and Aarit scored 8/9 each. They were placed third to fifth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹800000, ₹600000 for Rapid and ₹200000 for Blitz. The top three prizes in Rapid were ₹51000, ₹31000 and ₹15000, for Blitz they were ₹21000, ₹11000 and ₹8000 along with a trophy each. Kushagra scores perfect in Blitz

13-year-old FM Rosh Jain was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round of the Rapid Rating Open. Ten players were trailing him by a half point at 7/8 each. Rosh drew with former National Blitz champion, IM Dinesh Kumar Sharma to become the champion. CM Vandan Alankar Sawai lost to CM Aarit Kapil who secured second place. Arshpreet Singh suffered a loss against Kathan Khurana. Kathan finished third on tie-breaks.

FM Rosh Jain scored an unbeaten 8/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 63.2 Elo rating points

IM Kushagra Mohan made a fantastic start by winning eight games in-a-row in the Blitz Rating Open. He had a half point lead over GM Laxman R R and IM Ravi Teja S, heading into the final round. Kushagra defeated former National Blitz champion, Laxman to become the winner with a 100% score 9/9. Former National Challenger champion, Ravi won against Alok Sinha to secure second place. Vidit Sethi lost to Arnav Agrawal who claimed third place.

A total of 558 players including a GM and three IMs took part from various parts of India, one from Ghana and four from USA. The two-day nine round Rapid rating tournament was organized by 7 Sportz at Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi on 19th and 20th July 2025. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
