Aaryan Varshney dominates Rungta Cements Rating Open 2025
Top seed IM Aaryan Varshney scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Rungta Cements Rating Open 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the field. IM Subhayan Kundu and Lakshmi Charan Naidu G scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹300000 + trophies. The top three prizes were ₹61000 + trophy, ₹41000 and ₹25000 each. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by West Singhbhum District Chess Association at Khirwal Banquet Hall in Chaibasa, Jharkhand from 5th to 9th November 2025. IM Aaryan Varshney was the sole leader 7.5/8, before the final round. IM Subhayan Kundu was the only player trailing him by a half point at 7/8. FM Kumar Gaurav lost to Aaryan and the latter became a clear champion. Subhayan drew against Rupam Mukherjee to secure second place. Lakshmi Charan Naidu G won against Shubham Kumar to finish third.

Chief guest at the closing ceremony was Chandan Kumar, IAS, D.C. of West Singhbhum, Guest of Honour - Sandeep Kumar Meena, IAS, D.D.C of West Singhbhum, Sandeep Anurag Topno, JAS, S.D.M. of Chaibasa alongwith Dr. Vijay Mundhra, Dr. Dipendra Sao, Anil Khirwal, Mukund Rungta, President of West Singhbhum District Chess Association, and Basant Khandelwal, General Secretary.

IM Aaryan Varshney (2500) launched a very nice attack on the kingside 31...f4 32.Qf3 fxg3 33.Qf7+ Kg7 34.Qf3 Rf8 35.Qxg3 Nh5 and Black went on to win against Kumar Gaurav (2011) and become a clear champion.




The Chief Guest at the Opening Ceremony was Mr. Anuranjan Kispotta, DIG Kolhan, Guest of Honour - Mr. Bahaman Tuti, S.D.P.O, Chaibasa in presence of Mukund Rungta, President of West Singhbhum District Chess Association, Basant Khandelwal.

A total of 340 players including two IMs took part from all over the country. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by West Singhbhum District Chess Association at Khirwal Banquet Hall in Chaibasa, Jharkhand from 5th to 9th November 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
