Dr. Prajwal P Shet dominates Sanjana Spark Ways Rapid Rating Open 2025

Dr. Prajwal P Shet scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Sanjana Spark Ways Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. Four players - IM Chakravarthi Reddy M, WCM Swara Lakshmi S Nair, Nagendra Mekala and Sachin Pai scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to fifth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Sanjana Spark Ways at KRS Function Hall in Ballari, Karnataka on 28th November 2025. Dr. Prajwal P Shet made a brilliant start by winning eight games in-a-row. He had a full point lead heading into the final round. IM Chakravarthi Reddy M and WCM Swara Lakshmi S Nair were the only two players at 7/8 each. A draw was sufficient for the House Surgeon to become the champion and that's exactly what he did against Swara. Prajwal became a clear champion, Swara third. Chakravarthi drew against the only other IM participating in the event - Sai Agni Jeevitesh J to finish second. It is certainly great to see a doctor who is also a chess player winning a tournament. We also have two IMs who are doctors - Anwesh Upadhyaya and Rajdeep Sarkar.

A total of 193 players including two IMs took part from various parts of India. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Sanjana Spark Ways at KRS Function Hall in Ballari, Karnataka on 28th November 2025. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
