Rohan Vijay Shandilya wins 4th Navin Kumar Sinha Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2024

Rohan Vijay Shandilya and Subhabrata Roy scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 4th Navin Kumar Sinha Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2024. Jharkhand's very own Rohan won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Subhabrata secured second place. Arpan Das and Sudhir Kumar Sinha scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively. Rohan defeated the eventual second runner-up Arpan in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹20000 + trophy, ₹12000 and ₹7500 along with a trophy each. Entry fee was only ₹500. Rohan is the reigning Jharkhand State champion. Rohan wins his first tournament he plays in 2024

Four players - Rohan Vijay Shandilya, Subhabrata Roy, Manish Sharma and Rounak Pathak were the leaders 7/8, heading into the final round. Subhabrata defeated Manish and Rohan won against Rounak. Arpan Das scored a victory over the top seed of the event, Abhishek Das. Rohan became champion, Subhabrata second and Arpan third. 13-year-old Debanjan Sinha is the youngest top ten finisher of the event. He scored 7/9 to secure eighth place.

Basant Khandelwal, Secretary, West Singhbhum District Chess Association, also participated in the tournament. He scored 7/9 to finish at eleventh position.

Rohan Vijay Shandilya scored an unbeaten 8/9, and increased his Elo rating by 39.2 points

A total of 197 players took part from various states across the country. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by West Singhbhum District Chess Association at Welfare Center, St. Xavier's Boys High School in Chaibasa, Jharkhand on 21st January 2024. The time control of the event was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
