Pradeep Tiwari clinches Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Pradeep Tiwari (DASCB) scored eight straight wins to clinch Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He won the tournament with a round to spare. A last round loss against his unit mate Ajay Kumar Rai, did not deter his championship chances. Four players - WFM Meghna C H (KER), Ajay, Kashthuri Bhai R (A&N) and Himanshu Moudgil (DASCB) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹125000 + 50 trophies. Top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹12000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held from 11th to 15th August 2023 at Hotel TSG Grand in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It was organized by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association. This was Pradeep's third rating tournament triumph of his career. The objective of Chess for Everyone is to attract more players to participate in tournaments, get rating in an event which has low entry fee barrier of only ₹250. This was the time Andaman Nicobar Chess Association organized an All-India level rating tournament. They received an overwhelming response as 150+ players took part in this event.

Champion - Pradeep Tiwari 8/9

Runner-up - WFM Meghna C H 7.5/9

Second Runner-up - Ajay Kumar Rai 7.5/9

4th Kashthuri Bhai R 7.5/9

5th Himanshu Moudgil 7.5/9

Devesh Chandra Srivastava, IPS, DGP, Andaman and Nicobar islands was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. He gave away the prizes to the prize winners.

Pradeep Tiwari scored 8/9, won the tournament with one round to spare and increased his Elo rating by 27 points

A total of 156 players took part from various states across the country in this five-day nine round Swiss-league Rating tournament which was organized by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association at Hotel TSG Grand in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 11th to 15th August 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
