Harshit Raja wins Tirol Open 2025

GM Harshit Raja, GM Nikolaus Stanec (AUT) and GM Igor Glek (BEL) scored an unbeaten 7/9 each at Tirol Open A (>1800) 2025. Harshit won the tournament on tie-breaks, Nikolaus and Igor were placed second and third respectively. Harshit drew against both runners-up in the sixth and seventh round. The top three prizes were €1100, €800 and €600 each. The eight-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Tirol Association at House of Encounter, Innsbruck in Tirol, Austria from 23rd to 30th August 2025. GM Harshit Raja and GM Igor Glek (BEL) were coleaders 6.5/8, heading into the last round. GM Nikolaus Stanec (AUT) was the sole pursuer at 6/8. Harshit drew against FM Arthur Kruckenhauser (AUT) to become the champion. GM Philipp Schlosser (GER) shared the point with Igor and the latter finished third. Nikolaus defeated FM Johannes Lerch (AUT) to secure second place. Three out of five wins Harshit scored in 28 moves or less. The total participation in this tournament was 146, 56 in Open A (>1800), 53 in Open B (1500-1999) and 37 in Open C (<1700).

GM Harshit Raja (2453) was attacking his opponent's king awkwardly place on f8. His opponent, FM Herbert Wolfahrt (AUT, 2362) had the same in mind. 17.fxe6! Bxc3 18.Qf3+ Bf6 19.Bxc4 dxc4 20.Rhe1 Kg8 21.e7 Bxh3 22.e8Q+ Rxe8 23.Rxe8+ and White won as Black cannot avoid heavy material loss.

A total of 56 players including four GMs and an IM took part from eleven countries across the world in Open A (>1800). The eight-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Tirol Association at House of Encounter, Innsbruck in Tirol, Austria from 23rd to 30th August 2025. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
