56th Biel MTO R4: Kashish Jain and Ajay Krishna shine in contrasting victories

FM Kashish Manoj Jain and IM Ajay Krishna S scored contrasting yet fantastic victories at 56th Biel Chess Festival MTO Round 4. Kashish positionally outplayed his opponent GM Nikita Meshkovs (LAT). Ajay on the other hand, launched a sound attack against GM Viktor Erdos (HUN) to register a victory. GM Yan Liu (CHN) has taken sole lead by winning against GM Aryan Chopra. IM Aditya S Samant held GM Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen (VIE) to a draw. GM Pranav Anand defeated IM Marco Materia (FRA) to join Aditya in a four-way pursuit 3.5/4 each. GMT R3: Vincent Keymer joins David Navara in the lead

Vincent Keymer (GER) defeated defending GMT champion Liem Quang Le (VIE), to join the lead with David Navara (CZE) with a score of 17/26. Arjun Erigaisi suffered his second loss against Bassem Amin (EGY) at this event.

GMT Round 3: Bassem - Arjun: 4-0

GM Arjun Erigaisi (2710) faced Egypt no.1 GM Bassem Amin (2694) thrice in 2018 in three Classical rated games. All of them ended in draws. This time, Arjun made a paltry mistake which shifted things in his opponent's favor.

Black is already behind a pawn. 23...Qxa7 would have been better than what was played Rxb2? 24.Rxf7! Rb6 25.Rb7 Rxb7 26.Qxb7 Qxb7 27.Bxb7 is winning for White.

IM Ajay Krishna S (2390) launched a very nice attack to beat GM Viktor Erdos (HUN, 2571).

26...Ne3! is a remarkable interference. 27.Rxe3 runs into Qxc5. 27.Qxe3?? is out of question as f2+ finishes things in a hurry utilizing the queen and bishop battery. The game continued 27.Nxb7 Nxg4 28.Nxd8+ Rxd8 29.Rd6 Qb7 30.Red1 Nxf2 31.Kxf2 Qe4 32.Kg3 f2 33.Nxe6 dxe6 34.Rxd8 Qe1 35.R1d7+ Kg6 and it's over for White.
