13th London Chess Classic 2023 R7: 14-year-old Shreyas Royal impressive against Gukesh

14-year-old IM Shreyas Royal (ENG) played impressive chess against GM D Gukesh in the seventh round of 13th London Chess Classic 2023. At one point, Shreyas had a great opportunity to push further in his advantageous position. However, he missed the move order and it allowed his opponent to equalize. M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) and Mateusz Bartel (POL) are the two winners of this round. They defeated Nikita Vitiugov (POL) and Hans Niemann (USA) respectively. Michael Adams (ENG) maintains his sole lead 5/7. He drew against Andrei Volokitin (UKR). He is closely followed by Gukesh and Tabatabaei at 4.5/7 each. 14-year-old IM Shreyas Royal (ENG, 2438) faced GM D Gukesh (2720) for the first time in a rated game.

Shreyas got himself a promising position. However, he messed up the move order. He went 29.f4 first and then went 30.h6. What he needed to do was, play 29.h6 first which would have made a significant difference.
