Rs.6,18,603 raised for Sanjay's fight against Osteogenesis Imperfecta

We put up a plea to the ChessBase India community to support 10-year-old Sanjay Sivakumar for his fight against Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The former under-7 Karur District champion and his family were in need of funds to ensure that his treatment can be taken care off. Although Osteogenesis Imperfecta is not a condition that can be cured 100%, the damage can be mitigated with timely surgeries and medicines. The entire community rallied together for the cause and in 4 days of fundraising we were able to collect Rs.5,92,699. All the amounts will be used for Sanjay's treatment. The name of each and every donor is in this article. Update on 13th September: The updated amount is now Rs.9,61,787

Vantika Agrawal becomes the 21st Woman Grandmaster of India

Vantika Agrawal scored her final WGM-norm in her first tournament in over 1.5 years at Vezerkepzo GM August 2021. She scored 4.5/9, performed at 2408 to become India's latest Woman Grandmaster. She scored two of her WGM-norms and crossed 2300 by July 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic delayed her an opportunity to play over-the-board tournaments. However, that did not stop her from preparing and increasing her strength. She started turning things in her favor after winning Gold for the Indian team at FIDE Online Olympiad 2020. Her hard work is paying off as she won one accolade after the other, the latest being her winning the coveted WGM title.

Aimchess US Rapid SF1: No advantage for anyone

Aronian had a very good chance to create huge trouble for Carlsen in the second game of the first set of Semifinals in Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Aimchess US Rapid. Unfortunately for the Armenian, he was unable to seize, and the world champion went unscathed. Despite starting the day with a loss, Firouzja looked to create opportunities for himself in the second game. After two draws, he managed to beat Artemiev in the fourth game to tie the first set 2-2. Aimchess US Rapid QF2: Carlsen avenges his World Cup loss against Duda

Carlsen defeated Duda in the second set with the exact same score as the first set 2.5-0.5 in the Quarterfinals of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Aimchess US Rapid. Thus, Duda was unable to register a single win in the knockout stage. Aronian also took only three game to win the second set and eliminate Mamedyarov. Leinier lost the second set against Armetiev after putting up a great fight. So forced tie-breaks, but he was unable to win despite getting a decisive advantage in the first blitz tie-breaks. Top seed Narayanan S L dominates IPS Academy 2nd Sultan Khan Cup

GM Narayanan S L won IPS Academy Online Blitz Open with an unbeaten score of 8.5/9. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. This was Narayanan's third Open Blitz event triumph, hosted by ChessBase India. IM Mitrabha Guha scored sole 8.0/9 and he was placed second. GM Diptayan Ghosh secured third position 7.0/9 as he had a better tie-break among the group of twelve players with the same score. A total of 170 players including 6 GMs, 12 IMs, a WGM and 4 WIMs participated in this event from five different countries across the world. For the first time, a ChessBase India event took place on Tornelo, and it was quite a successful one.

Aimchess US Rapid QF1: Carlsen and Firouzja blaze Duda and So

Leinier ended Artemiev's unbeaten streak at the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Aimchess US Rapid. The American beat the Russian in their second game, however Artemiev delivered the equalizer in the fourth game to tie the first set. So lost to Firouzja 0.5-2.5 which is the inverse of their score in the Carlsen invitational earlier this year. Firouzja has never played a Semifinal in this season, and he is in a good position to advance. Duda lost the first set against the world champion without scoring a single win. Raunak Sadhwani clinches 5th Innsbruck Open and crosses 2600

GM Raunak Sadhwani won 5th Innsbruck International Open with an unbeaten 8.0/9. He performed at 2692, gained 10 Elo rating points, crossed 2600, taking his live rating to 2604.8. Raunak scored seven victories and two draws, including a draw against the Austria no.1 Markus Ragger. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. FM Fulvio Zamengo (ITA) 7.0/9 and FM Mike Ivanov (CAN) 6.5/9 were placed second and third. That's not all. He also finished second in the Blitz event scoring 7.0/9. GM Nikita Meshkovs won the Blitz 9.5/11, FM Magnus Arndt (GER) was placed third according to tie-breaks. Aimchess US Rapid Day 3: Duda-Carlsen rematch in the Quarterfinals

Vladislav Artemiev won the Prelims of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Aimchess US Rapid. He scored an unbeaten 10.5/15. Carlsen missed a win against Duda in the queen ending, which ended in a draw. It resulted in them facing each other once again in the Quarterfinals, where they will play plenty of games. Aronian, Firouzja, So, Mamedyarov and Leinier are the remaining players to advance to the knockout stage. Despite having his best day of the event, Vidit was unable to advance. Iniyan clinches double at 6th Noisiel International Open

Iniyan scored a double triumph at 6th Noisiel International Open as he won both Classical and Blitz event. This tournament is special to Iniyan, because this is where he became India's 61st GM almost 2.5 years ago. He finished at second place then. This time, Iniyan improved his statistics at Noisiel by winning both events. He won two trophies and €1450 cash prize in total. Last month, Iniyan made his fantastic debut at the biggest FIDE World Cup by eliminating Sebastian Bogner in the very first round. Iniyan has annotated three games of his from the tournament where he showcases his skill in strategy, endgame knowledge as well as tactical alertness.

Aimchess US Rapid Day 2: Artemiev's hat-trick springs him to the top

Vladislav Artemiev scored three consecutive wins to sprint to the top of table 7.5/10 at the conclusion of the tenth round at Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Aimchess US Rapid. Artemiev finished the day with a solid draw against the world champion Carlsen, who appreciated the Russian's play. Carlsen and previous day leader Aronian share the second place 7.0/10 each. Vidit started the day with a win, then he made three draws before losing the final game of the day against Leinier. He is now at 4.5/10. The first day of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Aimchess US Rapid witnessed plenty of exciting games. Thankfully, there were no theoretical short draws. Carlsen was involved in two checkmate finishes. Once again he managed to escape from the jaws of defeat against Vidit. The world champion is definitely going to push his limits since his world title defense is less than 90 days away. It was evident from the very first game of the day against So. Carlsen and Artemiev are at a half point behind the sole leader Aronian at 3.5/5 followed by Leinier, So, Firouzja and Mamedyarov at 3.0/5 each respectively. Giri started with five draws 2.5/5. Help 10-year-old chess player Sanjay fight Osteogenesis Imperfecta

10-year-old Sanjay Sivakumar suffers from Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). It's a disorder that is quite rare and affects one in 10,000 to 20,000 people across the world. Sanjay has bones that are brittle and break very easily. He has till date suffered 57 fractures. While growing up Sanjay became the under-7 Karur district champion in Tamil Nadu. However, due to his health condition, he has had to give up playing over the board chess. His father Sivakumar is a chess coach, arbiter and an organizer. For Sivakumar, the Covid-19 pandemic has been rough and he is finding it tough financially to continue Sanjay's treatment. Here's a humble appeal to all our readers to help the youngster fight this deadly condition.
