44th Chess Olympiad 2022 R2: Magnus Carlsen grinds a Queen endgame against Georg Meier

All six Indian teams won their respective matches in Round 2. In the Open section, India 2 scored a whitewash again, this time it was against Estonia. India 1, India 3 and India 2 Women defeated Moldova, Mexico and Latvia respectively. India 3 Open and Women defeated Mexico and Singapore with a 2.5-0.5 and 3-1 score. Humpy, Raunak and Ganguly overcame adverse positions. World champion Magnus Carlsen scored his first Classical victory in India since 2013. His team Norway whitewashed Uruguay 4-0. High-stakes 1v1 competition is pretty rare in the chess world. Except for the World Championship, matches with huge prize money and spectators is not a common sight. 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 R1: Indian teams start with six whitewashes

The host nation India won all six matches and 24 individual games in the first round of 44th Chess Olympiad. 16-year-old GM Raunak Sadhwani scored the fastest victory among all Indians. IM Tania Sachdev had to battle over five hours and 103 moves later she became victorious. GM Koneru Humpy also shoof off initial cobwebs to score a win. All teams scored a resounding victory against the minnow teams. Angola no.1 IM David Silva had the most impressive result of the first round as he drew with the two-time World Cup winner, Levon Aronian. Round 2 starts today at 3 p.m. IST. Laxman and Nitin win GRT Shasun Jain College Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2022

44th Chess Olympiad being just a few hourss away, Tamil Nadu is having several tournaments all over the state to celebrate the sporting event to ever take place in India. Among them, GRT Shasun Jain College Rapid and Blitz Rating Open tournament took place at Shasun Jain College for Women on 22nd and 23rd July 2022. The Blitz event had more participants than Rapid. GM Laxman R R emerged victorious in the Rapid. Both him and Arpan Das scored 8/9 each. He clinched the championship due to better tie-breaks. IM Pranesh M was adjudged third 7.5/9 among the three players who finished with the same score. India's 31st GM Shyam Sundar M, 68th GM Arjun Kalyan, WGM Srija Seshadri, 14th GM Neelotpal Das, IM Harshavardhan G B and IM Srihari L R relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch in various parts of the host state, Tamil Nadu. The man who revolutionized chess India decades ago and carried it to all over the world, Vishy Anand relayed the Torch to Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin. GM D Gukesh and GM Praggnanandhaa R received the Torch from them and relayed it with IM Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi. Who will take the figurative Torch from Anand and run across the world next? 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 preview

The 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad is the biggest Olympiad in the history, less than 24 hours away now. It is also the biggest sporting spectacle to ever take place in India. A total of 350 teams, 1736 players are taking part from 189 countries across the world. The host nation India is going to have six teams and 30 players taking part, which is the highest ever for a single edition of this extravaganza. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen will play in the Olympiad for the first time since 2016. The legend who inspired the nation and beyond, Vishy Anand is the mentor for the Indian teams. Rajdeep Sarkar wins Kashmir Open Rating 2022

Top two seeds of the tournament, IM Rajdeep Sarkar (WB) and GM Himanshu Sharma (HAR) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9. The game between them also ended in a draw. Rajdeep won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Himanshu was adjudged second. Four players scored 7/9. Out of them, Chandrasekhar M K (DASCB) was placed third according to tie-breaks.The total prize fund of the event was ₹200000. Top three prizes  were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with Kashmiri handcrafted trophies each. Anton Korobov clinches Czech Open 2022 Rapid, Harsha Bharathakoti third

The top three seeds, GM Anton Korobov (UKR), GM Alexander Donchenko (GER), GM Harsha Bharathakoti and fifth seed GM Vojtech Plat (CZE) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed first to fourth according to tie-breaks in Czech Open 2022 Pardubice G Rapid. Except Plat, all three podium finishers lost one game each. Donchenko defeated both the champion and the second runner-up. Harsha is currently unbeaten 4/5 in the GM Open A event. Japan, the “land of the rising sun” is very well known for its technological advances, the Shinkansen (bullet train), old temples, beautiful cherry blossoms and regular achievements at the Olympics. Yet, with its relatively small chess playing community, Japan is still something of an enigma in the chess world. The upcoming Chess Olympiad to be held in Chennai, India being in everyone’s focus, I am going to attempt to share a little about Japan’s diverse chess players who are representing their country at the Olympiad. Vishnu, Akash and Neelotpal relay the Chess Olympiad Torch from Kerala to Andaman and Nicobar Islands

India's 33rd GM Vishnu Prasanna relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch at Marottichal, Thrissur in Kerala. Marottichal is famous for being the village which was saved by chess. Vishnu is the trainer of India's youngest and fourth youngest in history to break 2700, GM D Gukesh. The strong GM from Tamil Nadu has won tournaments in Spain, a Blitz event in 9th London Chess Classic. He also won the Olympiad Curtain Raiser Rapid Rating Open within three days after relaying the Torch. India's 66th GM and youngest National Senior champion of the country, GM Akash Ganesan and India's 14th GM Neelotpal Das relayed the Torch in Puducherry, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands respectively. Alexandr Predke wins Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Masters, Koustav Chatterjee second

GM Alexandr Predke scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 and finished a full point ahead of the field to win Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Masters 2022. IM Koustav Chatterjee scored sole 7.5/9 to finish second. GM Nikita Petrov secured third place scoring 7/9. It was a successful event for the Indian contingency as S Rohith Krishna became the latest International Master of India, by scoring his final IM-norm. Vaibhav Jayant Raut and Ilamparthi A R scored their maiden IM-norms. The total prize fund of the tournament was €12500, €9950 for Masters and €2550 for Amateurs. Dylan Isidro triumphs at 22nd Sant Marti Open, Aronyak Ghosh third

IM Dylan Isidro Berdayes Ason (CUB), GM Hipolito Asis Gargatagli (ESP) and IM Aronyak Ghosh scored 7/9 each at 22nd Sant Marti International Open. They were placed first, second and third according to tie-breaks. Both Hipolito and Aronyak remained undefeated. Total prize fund of the tournament was €7210. Top three prizes were €1200, €1000 and €700 along with a trophy each. Arpan Das was the highest untitled and second-highest Indian finisher at 11th place, scoring 6/9. Hrithickkesh Pr dominates Dr. KCG Verghese Memorial Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament, Hrithickkesh Pr scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Dr. KCG Verghese Memorial Rating Open 2022. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Six players scored 7.5/9. Out of them, Sa Kannan and Badrinarayanan N secured second and third place according to tie-breaks.The total prize fund of the event was ₹200000. Top three prizes  were ₹25000 and a trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each respectively. This is Hrithickkesh's third triumph of the year.
