Reykjavik Open 2023 R7: Pranav Venkatesh plays solid against Vasyl Ivanchuk

GM Abhijeet Gupta drew against GM Maxime Lagarde (FRA) in the seventh round of Reykjavik Open 2023. Both players tried to gain the upper hand till the very end. However, neither player budged and the interesting knight endgame ended without a winner. Turkey no.1 GM Mustafa Yilmaz defeated GM Leon Mons (GER) to join the lead with Abhijeet and Maxime at 6/7 each. GM Pranav Venkatesh had a solid draw against the legend, GM Vasyl Ivanchuk (UKR). New Delhi GP Round 7: Humpy halts Bibisara's winning streak

IM Bibisara Assaubayeva had her first draw of New Delhi GP 2023 in the seventh round. She offered a draw to the World no.2 GM Koneru Humpy in a position where computer says her opponent was better. IM Vaishali had her third consecutive draw of the event, this time against GM Harika Dronavalli. GM Nino Batsiashvili made a mistake in the opening, gave up her queen and arrived at a lost position in 15 moves against GM Aleksandra Goryachkina. GM Nana Dzagnidze suffered her third loss in seven games. The victor was GM Kateryna Lagno. WGM Zhu Jiner has emerged as the new sole leader 5/7. 1st Indore International GM Open R1: Anup's amazing win

After a splendid opening ceremony with cultural dances, speeches and a marching of players from different countries, the first Indore International GM tournament kicked off at the Emerald Heights City School, Indore! Usually the first round in any swiss GM tournament starts off with the pairings of the top GMs with comparatively lower-rated players, and that mostly means an easy first round for the top seeds. But in Indore, no less than 3 rating upsets happened in the first round itself! IM Anup Deshmukh scored a splendid win against GM Boris Savchenko with the White pieces. CM Gaurang Bagwe held the experienced GM Michal Krasenkow to a draw, and John Veny Akkarakaran  salavaged a draw against GM Alexei Fedorov. The 2nd round starts from 10 AM IST today. Reykjavik Open 2023 R5-6: Maxime Lagarde joins Abhijeet Gupta in the lead

GM Abhijeet Gupta defeated GM Pranav Venkatesh in the fifth round to gain sole lead 5/5. In the sixth round Abhijeet made a short 21-move draw against Turkey no.1 GM Mustafa Yilmaz. It allowed GM Maxime Lagarde (FRA) to catch up to him. He defeated Turkey no.2 GM Emre Can. Pranav bounced back by winning against IM Dimitar Mardov (USA). He is one of the sixth players in pursuit at a score of 5/6. FM Sahithi Varshini M defeated GM Simon Williams in the sixth round after the latter misplayed in the endgame allowing the teenager to score a win. New Delhi GP Round 6: Vaishali draws with Goryachkina

IM Vaishali drew with the former Women's World Championship Challenger, GM Aleksandra Goryachkina in the sixth round of New Delhi GP 2023. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva scored the sole win of the round against IM Polina Shuvalova. The latter's ambitious play almost worked out, until she could not manage to gain control and maintain her advantage. It was virtually a rest day for the legend GM Koneru Humpy. Her birthday was celebrated with the organizing team and GM Harika Dronavalli who also had a similar rest day. Reykjavik Open 2023 R1-4: Abhijeet Gupta and Pranav Venkatesh make a perfect start 4/4

GM Abhijeet Gupta and GM Pranav Venkatesh are the coleaders after the fourth round of Reykjavik Open 2023. Both have made a perfect start by winning all four of their respective games. They will inevitably clash in the fifth round. Abhijeet defeated IM Sidhant Mohapatra comfortably in the fourth round, Pranav had a slightly bumpy win against GM Banusz Tamas. 14 players are trailing the leaders by a half point at 3.5/4 each, including the top seed GM Vasyl Ivanchuk. The legend averted a difficult position against GM Magesh Chandran who launched a devastating attack against the former World Rapid champion but he was unable to bring his advantage into fruition. August Aravindh Chithambaram clinches 20th Delhi GM Open 2023, Sethuraman third

GM Aravindh Chithambaram defeated the Georgia no.1 GM Levan Pantsulaia in the final round to win 20th Delhi GM Open 2023 with an incredible 9.5/10. It was virtually a must-win game for Aravindh as his tie-breaks was not the best. He played for a win throughout the game and he was rewarded for it. GM Luka Paichadze (GEO) made a short work of GM Alexei Fedorov in 20 moves to finish sole second 9/10. GM Sethuraman S P won against IM Mukhiddin Madaminov (UZB) with ease and edged past five more players to finish third on tie-breaks, scoring 8.5/10. Apart from Aravindh and Sethuraman, 11-year-old Ethan Vaz is the only other Indian to make a top ten finish. Koneru Humpy made a strong comeback in Round 5 after suffering a loss in the previous round. She showed why she is the World no.2 when she scored an emphatic victory against the Georgia no.1 Nana Dzagnidze. IM Vaishali did not hesitate to sacrifice an exchange when the position demanded against GM Nino Batsiashvili. She recovered it eventually and the game ended in a draw. WGM Zhu Jiner showed her tactical awareness when her opponent GM Kateryna Lagno was caught off guard as she increased the vulnerability of her own king. This time, Indore is back with an even bigger event, the biggest event in central India - the 1st Indore International GM Open 2023! SRM IST Chennai dominates All India Inter University Men Chess Championship 2023 with a perfect 10/10

The defending champion SRM IST, Chennai scored 100% to win All India Inter University Men Chess Championship 2023. They finished two points ahead of the runner-up Savitribai Phule Pune University 8/10. Two teams - Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and University of Calcutta scored 7/10 each. The former secured third place according to tie-breaks. The winning team comprised - IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra, GM Arjun Kalyan, IM Ajay Karthikeyan, reigning National Senior Open champion GM Karthik Venkataraman, current Asian Junior Open champion IM Harshavardhan G B and Srihari L. GM Aleksandra Goryachkina ended IM Bibisara Assaubayeva's winning streak in the fourth roun of New Delhi GP 2023. The former Women's World Championship Challenger defeated the reigning two-time World Blitz Women champion to gain sole lead 3/4. It was a tough round for the Indians as IM Vaishali and GM Humpy both lost their respective games against GM Kateryna Lagno and WGM Zhu Jiner. The Chinese played some fantastic chess to beat Humpy. Aravindh Chithambaram on the verge of winning 20th Delhi GM Open 2023

GM Aravindh Chithambaram showed his class against GM Volodar Murzin in the penultimate round of 20th Delhi GM Open 2023. He showcased his fantastic positional understanding to dethrone the teenager from the leader's position. India's first triple crown, reigning three-time National Rapid and Blitz champion, Aravindh is now the sole leader heading into the final round 8.5/9. Since his tie-break score is not the best, he must beat GM Luka Paichadze to become a clear champion, whereas a draw would allow any of the five foreigners to catch up and maybe surpass him.
