Neelash Saha wins Bijnor Open Vol.2 2024

IM Neelash Saha, Vignesh B, GM Laxman R R and Balkishan A scored 7.5/9 each at Bijnor Open UP Booster Series Vol.2 2024. Neelash won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Vignesh, Laxman and Balkishan were placed second, third and fourth according to tie-breaks. Only Neelash and Laxman remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹75000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day rating tournament was organized by and at Vivek College, Bijnor at Uttar Pradesh from 17th to 21st March 2024. IM Neelash Saha and IM Srihari L R were the coleaders heading into the final round 7/8 each. Vignesh B defeated Srihari and Neelash drew against Indrajeet Mahindrakar. Balkishan A and GM Laxman R R won against FM Joydeep Dutta and Daksh Goyal to also end up with 7.5/9 each. Neelash became champion, Vignesh second and Laxman third. The exact rating changes will be known on April 2024 FIDE Rating list.

IM Neelash Saha (2463) made a nice exchange sacrifice against Ram Prakash (1983) in the seventh round. 14...exd5 15.Nxd5 Qd8 16.Nc7 Be6 17.Bc4 there is no need to hurry in recovering the exchange Bxc4 18.Qxc4 Bf6 19.Nxa8 and White won the game in another ten moves.

A total of 190 players including a GM and 4 IMs took part from all over the country and one from the Netherlands and USA each in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by and at Vivek College in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh from 17th to 21st March 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
