Aaryan Varshney dominates 1st Maharathi Rapid Rating Open 2025

IM Aaryan Varshney scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Maharathi Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Aaditya Dhingra and FM Garv Gaur scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Aaryan defeated Aaditya in the penultimate round. The total prize fund was ₹721111. The top three prizes were ₹51111, ₹41000 and ₹31000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Maharathi Chess Academy at S G Public Senior Secondary School in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on 12th and 13th April 2025. Aaryan's ninth tournament triumph of the year

IM Aaryan Varshney was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the last round. He defeated Kuldeep Shankar to become a clear champion. Vidit Sethi lost to IM Aaditya Dhingra and the latter secured second place. FM Garv Gaur defeated Harish Sharma to finish third.

Chief Guest at the closing ceremony was Mr. Raja Ram Ravanna, Director, S G Public School, in presence of Chief Arbiter - IA Kavita Patel and others.

A total of 345 players including three IMs took part from all over the country, one from Botswana and one from USA. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Maharathi Chess Academy at S G Public Senior Secondary School in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on 12th and 13th April 2025. The time control of the event was 25 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move.
