Lalit Ranjan Sahu clinches 4th IS Rating Open 2025

Lalit Ranjan Sahu scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 4th IS Rating Open 2025. The 14-year-old finished a half point ahead of the rest. Shreyaskar Tanti, Rabindra Kumar Ojha and Manish Mishra scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹12000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine-round Swiss league Rating tournament was organized by IS Chess Centre at Ridhi Sidhi Kalyan Mandap in Cuttack, Odisha from 27th to 31st March 2025. 14-year-old Lalit's first rating tournament triumph of his career

Lalit Ranjan Sahu was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Ayush Aryan Mohapatra and Manish Mishra were trailing him by a half point at 7/8 each. Lalit drew with Manish to become a clear champion. Shreyaskar Tanti defeated Atul Kakade to secure second place. Rabindra Kumar Ojha won against Ayush Aryan Mohapatra to finish third.

The Chief Guest at the closing ceremony was Er. Debabrata Bhatta, Secretary, All Odisha Cheess Association, Guest of Honour - Mr. Amiya Ranjan Routray, Social Worker, Mr. Sanjay Jena, President, Manadi Development Association, Er. Subrat Ghadai, Corporator, Cuttack Municipality Corporation, Mr. Himanshu Sadangi, Secretary, Manadi Development Association, Mr. Manoj Kumar Pati, President, IS Chess Centre, Mr. Manas Pani, Secretary, IS Chess Centre and Chief Arbiter - IA Suresh Chandra Sahoo, graced the occasion on the last day and distributed the prizes.

The tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest - Mr. Asit Mukherjee, Advisor, Cuttack District Chess Association. Other distinguished guests present were - Mr. Suryakanta Bisoi, Ex Executive Member, All Odisha Chess Association, Mr. Amiya Ranjan Routray, Social Worker, and Mr. Manas Ranjan Pani, Secretary, IS Chess Centre.

A total of 246 players took part from all over the country in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by IS Chess Centre at Ridhi Sidhi Kalyan Mandap in Cuttack, Odisha from 27th to 31st March 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
