Hrant Melkumyan does a hat-trick of winning O2C Doeberl Cup 2024, Arghyadip Das third

GM Hrant Melkumyan (ARM) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win O2C Doeberl Cup Premier 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. This is his third consecutive and overall fourth triumph at this event. His previous wins were in 2019, 2022 and 2023. IM Peng Chen (CHN) and IM Arghyadip Das scored 7/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was AU $26440, $16200 in Premier. The top three prizes were $5000, $3000 and $1500 each respectively. Apart from Arghyadip, GM Mitrabha Guha and GM Venkatesh M R are two more Indians to make a top ten finish. They scored 6.5/9 each, secured sixth and seventh place respectively. Melkumyan dominates the field

Australian legend - GM Ian Rogers has won this event a dozen times. Since the inaugural edition way back in 1963, no winner has won the event for three consecutive years. GM Hrant Melkumyan (ARM) became the first person to do so. Rogers won all his 12 triumphs in a combined total of three different decades, Melkumyan's four triumphs occurred in two different decades.

A total of 83 players including 4 GMs and 8 IMs took part from 15 countries across the world in this five-day nine round Rating tournament in the Premier category. It was organized by Shaun Press in Canberra, Australia from 28th March to 1st April 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
