GM Pavel Eljanov (UKR) made an 18-move short draw against IM Jakub Seemann (POL) to maintain his sole lead 7/8 at 2nd Dole Trophy Pasino Grand Aix 2025 Masters. This draw earned Jakub his final GM-norm with a round to spare. Apart from Jakub, GM Jan Malek (POL) and GM Iniyan Pa are two more players at 6.5/8 each. Iniyan defeated IM Marco Materia (FRA) to get in the title fray. IM Nitish Belurkar had a hard-fought draw after more than 5.5 hour-long battle against GM Yahli Sokolovsky (ISR). A dozen norms already earned with 19 more norms possible, Iniyan in the fray

The success of a GM tournament can be measured in general by how many norms are scored. Even before the tournament is over, already a dozen norms including a GM-norm, seven IM-norms, a WGM-norm and three WIM-norms have been earned from seven countries across the world. 19 more norms are possible. All participants of the eighth round were given a fresh banana each as Dole, the main sponsor is celebrating 125 years of banana at Dole.

GM Iniyan Pa (2558) launched a beautiful attack on the kingside 24...g4 25.Nd4 Bxc4 26.Qxc4 Bxe5 27.Ne6 Rf5 28.Nxf4 White got the pawn back, but it only helped Black Qf6 29.Nd3 b5 30.Qe4 Bd4 31.Rc1 Rxf2 32.Kh1 Rf5 33.Qxc6?? was not a good idea as the resultant endgame is winning for Black due to the bishop dominating the knight in the open position.
