Mayank Chakraborty wins Shri PR Dutta Memorial Rapid Rating 2026, Aakash Dalvi shines in Blitz

GM Mayank Chakraborty scored an unbeaten 8/9 points to win the Shri PR Dutta Memorial Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2026. 6 players, including Mayank Chakraborty, Aditya Varun Gampa, Kaustuv Kundu, Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi, Shaurya Chaudhary, and Mayank Pal, scored 8/9 points to finish in 1st to 6th place, respectively, according to tiebreak scores. The tournament was organised by Matrix Chess Academy, led by FA FT Prasenjit Dutta at Abhinav Global School, Dwarka, New Delhi, on 11th and 12th April. It was a nine-way tie after completion of 9 rounds at the 23rd Bangkok Chess Club Open 2026 (Masters). 9 players, including IM Dau Khuong Duy, GM Brandon Jacobson, GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, GM Nigel Short, IM Aronyak Ghosh, GM Loek van Wely, GM Titas Stremavicius, GM Ido Gorshtein, and IM Saidakbar Saydaliev, scored 7/9 to share the 1st place. According to regulations, the prize money was shared among 9 players, but IM Dau Khuong Duy was crowned champion on better tiebreak scores. The tournament was organised by Bangkok Chess Club at the luxurious Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, Thailand, April 11-19, 2026. Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara drew his tiebreak armageddon game with black pieces against Aydin Suleymanli to win the Bucharest Grand Prix 2026. After 10 rounds of play, 5 players were in joint 1st place with 8.5/10: Jose Martinez, Aydin Suleymanli, Cristobal Henriquez Villagra, Dimitrov Radoslav, and Kiril Georgiev. The top 2 players, Jose Martinez and Suleymanli, played a tiebreak armageddon game to decide the winner. Vignesh B scored 8/9 points to win Eight Square Chess Academy's 2nd International FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament 2026. Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Jai Sankar Subramanian, Sailesh R, and Johny Arixander scored 7.5/9 points to secure 2nd to 5th positions respectively according to tirebreak scores. The tournament was organised by Eight Square Chess Academy from 1st to 5th April at the Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Frederik Svane wins Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026, Faustino Oro creates History

Frederik Svane scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 points to win the 3rd Edition of Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026. In the last round, Svane scored an important victory over Murali Karthikeyan, who was co-leading with him after 8 rounds. Haik M Martirosyan, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Mamikon Gharibyan scored an unbeaten 7/9 points to finish in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, respectively, according to tiebreak scores. Faustino Oro creates history at the Sardinia Chess Festival as he scored his final GM norm after facing Nepomniachtchi in the last round. 'Chess Speaking for Itself' as Hans Niemann wins Grand Chess Tour Super Rapid and Blitz 2026

Hans Niemann played some tremendous chess to win the Grand Chess Tour Super Rapid and Blitz 2026. Hans got an early lead in the Rapid section that helped him maintain it in the blitz. After the first day of Blitz, Hans was in 1st place. On the second day, he won the most important last round clash against Radoslaw Wojtaszek to clinch the title. The first leg of the Romania Grand Prix 2026 kicked off in Bucharest at the iconic Palace of the Parliament on the 9th May 2026. It is a 2-day Rapid event in which top players from across the globe are taking part. Vasyl Ivanchuk, SL Naryanan, Rauf Mamedov, Vaibhav Suri, and Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara are some of the big names taking part in this event. After completion of 4 rounds on 9th May, most of the top seeds are maintaining good results with 4/4. Romania Grand Prix 2026 is a premier international chess circuit organized by the Romanian Chess Federation, bringing together elite players, world-class competition, and iconic destinations. Haik M Martirosyan, Parham Maghsoodloo, Murali Karthikeyan, Mukhammadzokhid Suyarov, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Abhimanyu Puranik, Prraneeth, Vuppala, Frederik Svane, and Smirin Ilia are tied for the lead. At the Super Rapid 2026 in Warsaw, he scored 13.0/18 and took the pole position going into the blitz. He was followed by Wesley So on 12 and Vladimir Fedoseev on 11. India's D. Gukesh is on 9 points and is in joint 4th position. With 18 rounds of blitz left, there is everything to play for. This is what transpired on day 3.

Chola Chess Club in Chennai draws huge crowd on its very first day

The Chola Chess Club officially began on 2nd May 2026 at Phoenix Marketcity Mall in Chennai. The club is a part of the CSR activities of the Cholamandalam Finance Group. It is supported by ChessBase India and Chess Gurukul. It is absolutely free and open to all. The opening day saw players of all ages come together to enjoy chess in a relaxed atmosphere. The special guest for the day was young chess talent Sarbartho Mani, who added to the excitement by playing with visitors.
