Rudra Pratap and Liyaa Krishnan are 2026 Under-7 National Champions

Rudra Pratap from Bihar scored 8/9 points to win the 39th National Under-7 Open Chess Championship. Rudra scored a perfect 8/8, and then he lost the final round, but better tiebreaks helped him clinch the title. In the Under-7 Girls group, Ns Liyaa Krishnan of Maharashtra scored a perfect 9/9 to win the National Championship with a clear 1.5 point lead. Four talented Indian youngsters excelled at the FIDE World Cup Cadets 2026, securing four medals for the country. Divi Bijesh clinched back-to-back gold medals in consecutive editions. She scored 9/11 points to win the gold medal in Under-12 Girls. In the Under-10 Open, two Indian players secured podium finishes. Better still, both halves count toward the FIDE Circuit and, as the calendar currently stands, this is the last Circuit event in Asia in 2026.
