FM Md. Imran scored 6.5/9 to win 29th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Evgeniy Podolchenko and IM Semetei Tologon Tegin scored 6/9 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Coimbatore District Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 23rd to 29th September 2024. Javokhir Sindarov powers Triveni Continental Kings to Tech Mahindra GCL Finals

Javokhir Sindarov won an exhilarating battle against Daniel Dardha to power his team, Triveni Continental Kings to the Finals of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. Magnus Carlsen had an exciting finish against Alireza Firouzja. However, his win was not enough for his team, Alpine SG Pipers to advance to the Finals. R Praggnanandhaa played well against Wei Yi to get a decisive advantage early in the game but he could not manage to seize any of his series of opportunities. Valentina Gunina's victory over Kateryna Lagno also turned out to be crucial for the defending champions. Tech Mahindra GCL Day 8: Tenacious Giri outplays Firouzja, PBG Alaskan Knights secure their place in Finals

PBG Alaskan Knights defeated Triveni Continental Kings 12-8 to become the first finalist of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. They will face the winner between Alpine SG Pipers and TCK tomorrow. The last match of the double round-robin stage will now be a virtual Semifinal. Anish Giri, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Zhongyi Tan and Alina Kashlinskaya scored the victories to ensure their place in the finals. Alpine SG Pipers defeated Ganges Grandmasters 13-5 to stay in the hunt. Giri showed extreme tenacity to beat Alireza Firouzja. It was evident from his play that he was determined to win the game. The eighth edition is offering a total prize fund of Turkish Lira 682000. The prize fund in Category A is 460500, the top three prizes being 10000, 80000 and 50000 along with a medal each. A total of 8 GMs, 7 IMs and a WGM have registered from eleven countries across the world. Entry fee is Turkish Lira 250. GM titled players will be evaluated and answered by the organization if they submit full board accommodation requests tournament director. The third edition of Thailand Pattaya Open 2024 has started. Seniors and Youth events have already concluded. GM Lalit Rohit is the top seed in the Open section. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh is the third seeded player. The top three prizes are THB 80000, 50000 and 30000. The nine-round Rating Open tournament is taking place at Pacific Park Sriracha Shopping Mall in Sriracha, Thailand from 9th to 18th October 2024. There is only one round per day. Tech Mahindra GCL Day 7: It's a three-way race between Alaskan Knights, Continental Kings and SG Pipers

Upgrad Mumba Masters started the seventh day with a win over the leaders - PBG Alaskan Knights in Round 8 of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. It was the closest match of the event so far as the final score was 10-9. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave won his second consecutive game. He defeated Anish Giri on the 'Icon' board. Koneru Humpy won against Zhongyi Tan. Raunak Sadhwani ended Nihal Sarin's unbeaten run. Their wins nullified Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov's four pointer wins. Ganges Grandmasters lost to Triveni Continental Kings. Alireza Firouzja, Teimour Radjabov and Alexandra Kosteniuk scored four points each. The remaining three games were won by the GG players. R Praggnanandhaa and Daniel Dardha powered Alpine SG Pipers to a 6-11 win over American Gambits. PBG AK, TCK and ASGP are the only three teams who will battle it out for the spots in the Finals. Poh Yu Tian clinches 19th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Malaysian Open 2024, Kushagra Mohan second

IM Poh Yu Tian (MAS) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 19th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Malaysian Open Chess Championship 2024 part of Malaysian Chess Festival. IM Kushagra Mohan scored sole 7/9 to secure second place. Four players - GM Laylo Darwin (PHI), Sunle Gong (CHN), FM Stephen Rome Pangilinan (PHI) and FM Nguyen Quoc Hy (VIE) scored 6.5/9 each. They secured third to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. WGM Mary Ann Gomes and GM Deepan Chakravarthy are the only two other Indians to make a top ten finish. IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh J scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Check N Mate Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Three players - GM Laxman R R, FM Ojas Kulkarni and IM Avinash Ramesh scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Only Sai and Ojas remained undefeated among the podium finishers. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹20000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Check N Mate on 22nd September 2024 at Linden Montessori in Bangalore, Karnataka. Hikaru Nakamura ended Alireza Firouzja's unbeaten streak at Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2024. Just when everyone thought the game will end in a draw, Firouzja offered his rook up for trade. The resultant pawn endgame turned out to be completely winning for the Speed King. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva and GM Elisabeth scored the crucial wins to secure teh win for American Gambits over Triveni Continental Kings. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave defeated Magnus Carlsen for the second consecutive year at this event. Alpine SG Pipers suffered a loss against upGrad Mumba Masters. Peter Svidler and Raunak Sadhwani were the other two victors of uMM. Anish Giri scored his first win of the event against Vishy Anand. Alina Kashlinskaya and Nihal Sarin scored the wins to ensure they beat Ganges Grandmasters. PBG AK is now one match win away from securing their spot in the Finals. 50th National Women R1-6: Padmini and Sarayu emerge coleaders

The reigning and defending champion, IM Padmini Rout and Sarayu Velpula are the coleaders 5.5/6 at the end of Round 6 of 50th National Women Championship 2024. Padmini's sole draw was against WIM Priyanka K in the fifth round. Top seed Sarayu conceded only one draw against WIM Mrudul Dehankar. She defeated the previous edition's runner-up and reigning Commonwealth Women's Gold medalist, WGM Mary Ann Gomes. Alireza Firouzja is in the form of his life. He defeated Maxime Vachier-Lagrave for the second time in consecutive days. MVL tried to take the game to him, however, he could not find the good moves at the right moment. Alexandra Kosteniuk scored the only other win for the team which helped Triveni Continental Kings register their fourth win of the event, 0-3 (8-10) against upGrad Mumba Masters. Anish Giri made a nice queen sacrifice to build a fortress and draw with Magnus Carlsen. Yifan Hou and Kateryna Lagno scored the wins for SG Alpine Pipers. Nihal Sarin's sole win for Balan Alaskan Knights was not enough to win the match. The 12th edition of the IBCA World Junior and World Women Championship for the Blind and Visually-Impaired concluded on 6th October, featuring 144 thrilling games across both sections. In the Junior section, Julia Salamon clinched the gold medal with 8 points after a hard-fought final round, followed by Racis Michal (7.5 points) winning silver, and Nurgisa Kuanyshuly securing bronze with 7 points. In the Women’s section, Zslitzova Lubov dominated with 9 points to win gold, while Emilia Egeman took silver with 7.5 points, and Emilia Tryjanska earned bronze with 7 points. Nitish Belurkar dominates Late Sunandabai Dayanand Bandodkar Memorial Blitz Rating Open 2024

IM Nitish Belurkar scored an unbeaten 10.5/11 to win Late Sunandabai Dayanad Bandodkar Memorial Blitz Rating Open 2024. He finished a massive 1.5 points ahead of the field. Four players - Mandar Pradip Lad, Indrajeet Mahindrakar, Kiran Panditrao and Harish Sharma scored 9/11 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. Nitish defeated all of them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹12000, ₹10000 and ₹8000 along with a trophy each. The two-day eleven round Blitz tournament was organized by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association on 19th and 20th September 2024 at Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, Goa.
