While many people had written off Vishy Anand (as usual), the tiger of Madras once again growled back, "not so soon!" Anand played some sublime chess and simply mated both his opponents on the first day of the Zurich Chess Challenge. While Levon Aronian slumped in 20 moves, Anish Giri lasted for 45 moves before he threw in the towel. The games were high class and worth having a look at!

It's chess bonanza time for Indian fans! While Vishy Anand fights it out at the Zurich Chess Challenge, Humpy and Harika are vying for crucial Grand Prix points in Tehran. Vishy finishes second in Zurich Blitz

Returning from a poor performance at the Gibraltar Masters, all that Anand needed was a boost in confidence before the main event of Zurich Chess Challenge which begins on the 13th of February. The Blitz tournament did exactly that. Anand scored 3.0/5 and essayed convincing victories over Anish Giri and the eventual winner Hikaru Nakamura. He, thus, finished second and will have three whites in the main event which begins from today at 7.30 p.m IST.

Humpy and Harika in Tehran

The National Teams Championship kicked off here at Bhubaneshwar with top organisations like PSPB and Railways sending strong teams in order to win this thirty-sixth edition. There are two sections -- Open and Women. Hikaru Nakamura won the Gibraltar Masters 2016 in great style. For Indians it was a highly successful event as 16 out of the 21 players, we had out there, increased their rating. Sethuraman was the best performer finishing fourth, while Harikrishna settled for fifth. IIFL Wealth 06+07: Entertaining Chess!

Chess, entertainment, happiness -- the players and parents of the juniors at the IIFL Wealth Mumbai International and Junior Tournament are having a gala time as the event approaches its final leg. The Junior tournament has a handful of leaders, with no clarity on how the tournament will end while the Open saw G.A. Stany taking the lead by beating Shardul Gagare, but then losing to Swapnil Dhopade to allow him and Himal Gusain to share the lead with 6.5/7. An illustrated report.

Hari in a hurry!

Harikrishna played the London System against Vidit Gujrathi and was able to subdue him with some nice attacking moves. With this win, Hari moves into the leaders pack with 6.5/8. Sethuraman and Abhijeet Gupta follow him on six points. The reason why today can be a big day for chess in India is that Harikrishna has a chance to overtake Anand on the live Elo rating list.
