Chess is not just about beating your opponent. It is more than just a sport -- it is an epicenter that brings people together. The IIFL Wealth Mumbai International in progress at Mount Litera School International is beginning to show people the real value that chess creates for the society. While a handful of kids share the lead in the Junior section, the Open saw its first sole leader in IM G.A. Stany, who has touched 5.0/5 and has kindly annotated his game for you. After seven rounds Anton Guijarro leads the super strong Gibraltar Chess festival with 6.0/7. Four Indians, Harikrishna, Sethuraman, Vidit and Abhijeet Gupta follow on the leader's heels with 5.5/7. It was edge of the seat entertainment as the last round of the Tata Steel Challengers saw three players with a chance to win the title. In the end it was the 23-year-old from Chennai who drew his final round game and came out victorious. B. Adhiban not only played some great games of chess but also defended skillfully in nearly lost positions. The IIFLW Mumbai Open and Junior tournaments are held from the 28th of January to 5th of February 2015. It is one of the highest prize money tournaments in the world for the junior section. The third round at the Gibraltar Masters turned out to be an excellent one for Indians. Harika was surely the performer of the day as she played a nearly flawless game against Nigel Short. Adhiban lost his previous round game to Jorden van Foreest. This meant that Eltaj Safarli caught up with him on the leaderboard with 6.5/9. As luck would have it Eltaj and Adhiban faced off against each other in the tenth round and the Indian player emerged victorious, thereby cementing his chances for a first place finish with three rounds to go. A twin tournament with the Open and Junior categories, the chess championship kicks off from 28th Jan. 2016, that is tomorrow, at the Mount Litera School International. At the Qatar Masters Open 2015 Magnus Carlsen drew his first round game against Nino Batsiashvili and went on to win the tournament.
