Wazeer Ahmad Khan is Asian 65+ Champion

The Myanmar Chess Federation organized the Asian Seniors Championship 2016 from 27 October to 04 November at Hotel Hazel, Mandalay, Myanmar. The tournament was held in two categories — for players aged above 50 and 65. India's 69-year-old IM Wazeer Ahmad Khan won the gold in the 65+ category where 18 players competed. The tournament had 56 players from 12 countries competing for the medals. We have a quick report.

One day before the main tournament began, the organizers of the London Chess Classic hosted the Pro-biz cup. Successful businessmen and entrepreneurs bid for their favourite world class player and team up with him to play a tandem match against another team. Vishy Anand and Terry Chapman were just too strong for the other participants. They won all their games and took home the fourth pro-biz cup trophy! Harshini leads Indian challenge at World Schools

The temperature in Sochi, Russia is around zero degrees Celsius. A pack of 18 Indians are braving the weather and fighting it out at the World Schools 2016, trying to bring home a medal. Currently it is A. Harshini in the under-15 girls section who is performing the best with 3.5/4. Gareyev breaks the world blindfold simul record

On 4th of December Timur Gareyev played against 48 opponents in a blindfold simul that lasted nearly 20 hours to set the world record in simultaneous blindfold chess. Miguel Najdorf's record of 45 opponents was broken by Mark Lang after 64 years in 2011 by playing 46 people. Timur went two steps ahead and challenged 48! He ended the simul with a staggering 35 wins. It was truly an exhibition of unbelievable human strength and stamina. Albert Silver tells you the tale of how it all transpired.

Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa is no more

The popular Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, also known to her followers as Amma, passed away in Chennai. She was one of the most powerful leaders from India and was instrumental in bringing the World Championship to this country, a match that saw Anand step down to allow Magnus to begin a new era. She passed away at the age of 68 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai after struggling with health related issues for three months. She was a believer in the power of chess and introduced the game as a compulsory activity in all schools in Tamil Nadu, making her state an intellectual powerhouse.

Shaastra Rapid FIDE Rated Tournament — Invitation

Marimuthu wins National Schools Chp. for Visually Challenged

The National Schools Championship for the Visually Challenged was held from 22 November to 26 November at Shirdi in Maharashtra. 67 players born after 2000 participated, including many girls, and four were rated among them. The tournament was won by Tamil Nadu's talented K. Marimuthu in a crushing manner while Mumbai lad Aryan Joshi was second. Report.

Karthikeyan Murali: Indian Champion — Twice!

The 2016 National Premier Championship was a heavyweight affair with Adhiban and Vidit among the participants. The tournament saw an early leader in Aravindh Chithambaram as he rolled through the opposition, but Karthikeyan Murali caught up with his city-mate. In the final round, Aravindh lost to R.R. Laxman, while Karthikeyan won his game, making him the Indian Champion again. We have a special report with analysis by Karthikeyan.
